Quite cross

I would like to buy something quite extravagant which I don’t need. I can afford it. Our adult children will enjoy it too. We have room to store it.

I have asked my husband to look at choosing the specification, as a) he’s competent at such things and b) historically if I’ve made such a purchase without consulting it’s resulted in a massive sulk.

His verdict is that we don’t need it, it’s expensive and extravagant.

Unlike the ride on lawnmower that’s awaiting delivery? His most recent 4 wheel drive? The machine that’s on order for ‘our’ (his) business that IMO is entirely unnecessary?

I’m quite cross

Confiscatedpopit · 08/01/2022 16:03

That’s a new one on me OP- just had a Google :)

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 08/01/2022 16:05

@Confiscatedpopit Yep me too. The only green egg I was aware of was Dr Seuss

Dinosauria · 08/01/2022 16:06

You are very unreasonable op, I now really need something that five minutes ago I didn't know existed

StellaGibson118 · 08/01/2022 16:07

I don't see a problem as long as you know you'll use it for summers to come. I assume you're retired so why not enjoy things with the money you have Smile

fairislecable · 08/01/2022 16:08

My DH bought a huge Green Egg a few years ago. I was not happy thought it a waste of money, but he has proved me wrong It has been In constant use every weekend, year round.

Steak is amazing, the 20 pound turkey at Christmas was fantastic roast rib of beef gorgeous. He also bought a pizza stone ( he doesn’t like pizza!) they were so fresh crispy and lovely.

Best of all I do all the cooking - except outdoor cooking, so, when the egg is on its my day off Grin

InFiveMins · 08/01/2022 16:11

Just get it ordered. No need for his permission. You want it so buy it, sod what he thinks.

anotheronenow · 08/01/2022 16:13

Oh it's a barbecue? I was looking for pages and pages of guessing. I was going to go with above ground swimming pool.

OP can we come up with more stuff you could buy and he could say it's too expensive and not engage and you could get quite cross (but inside quite warm and funny)?

Starting with the above ground swimming pool.

I have a Weber and it's lasted 20 years and I love it (bbq).

NewYearNewMeFeckthatshit · 08/01/2022 16:14

Good grief, that’s an expensive BBQ!

I’d rather have the ride on mower myself.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/01/2022 16:14

Just buy it anyway, enjoy it, and blithely ignore (or pretend to) any sulks.

Youngstreet · 08/01/2022 16:15

My friends have an egg. They love it but they’re very into different outdoor cooking methods.
It would be wasted on me and dh.
If you’ll use it go for it I say.

Houseplantmad · 08/01/2022 16:19

Do they come in any other colour? Grin

Nanasueathome · 08/01/2022 16:21

Get this one. 😁

I just had a look at this It says 86 people are viewing it now
fairislecable · 08/01/2022 16:21

The drawback is outdoor cooking is addictive we now possess one gas barbecue with rotisserie option, the large Green egg (not the one in JL) and a small egg from Aldi (for cooking small items like chops and steaks).

Happy cooking 🧑‍🍳

Zebracat · 08/01/2022 16:23

Definitely the one with the table. And make delicious food every week until he admits he was wrong. I love barbecues, my Dh doesn’t so we don’t have one. I am living vicariously with this.. Not joining in though. I have no doubt that if I bought one I would not use it and forget to protect it.

doublemonkey · 08/01/2022 16:25

Is it a hot tub,OP?

doublemonkey · 08/01/2022 16:27

Oops, just seen what it is...🧐

user1363157897422457887532356 · 08/01/2022 16:27

@nonevernotever

I've changed my mind now that you've said what it is. But that's because I loathe barbecues.....
Ohh thank goodness it's only a barbecue. I was worried it was something from Goop...
DrSbaitso · 08/01/2022 16:27

Buy it anyway and let him know if he doesn't give input, you'll use your own judgement.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 08/01/2022 16:30

@Nanasueathome 100+ now😂

anotheronenow · 08/01/2022 16:31

Also since we know about the green egg can we now move to guessing what the expensive machine on order for your/his business is?

He's a dentist and it's a fancy leather vibrating chair?

WonderfulYou · 08/01/2022 16:32

The one above is almost £3,000.
I would definitely say that’s way too much for a BBQ.
Why not get a cheaper one that’s just as decent?

sunshinesupermum · 08/01/2022 16:34

Why would you want a BBQ in the middle of winter OP? Or are you lving in Australia?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/01/2022 16:34

you said yourself it was extravagant

PinkSyCo · 08/01/2022 16:34

Aww OP I love that you describe yourself as ‘quite cross’ and your DH as lovely even when you are quite cross with him. I am slightly disappointed to have googled ‘green egg’ and discovered it’s just another type of barbecue though. Somehow I imagined it to be a big inflatable bubble tent which would be much more fun in my opinion.
