Australia have their entry rules. He doesn’t meet them therefore he can’t enter.

The rules can’t differ just because of who he is

AgathaMystery · 06/01/2022 08:07

Def team Australian. I think he’s bonkers.

purplesequins · 06/01/2022 08:08

you can't have one rule for djokovic and other rules for everyone else.

dittymcdit · 06/01/2022 08:08

Team Australia. What medical issue was he claiming to have exactly?

Exhausteddog · 06/01/2022 08:08

I think they are both unreasonable.
Australian rules seem incredibly harsh and unreasonable.
However he is unreasonable to think they don't apply to him.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2022 08:09

Australia has its rules, he has not complied. Right decision.

pencilsontheceiling · 06/01/2022 08:09

Why do the rules change for him???

SalsaLove · 06/01/2022 08:10

Team Aus. He’s shockingly arrogant to think the rules don’t apply to him. He’s a sportsman ffs. Not exactly going there for humanitarian reasons.

londonrach · 06/01/2022 08:12

You know the rules when you travel to Australia ..can't believe he thinks he better than everyone else and doesn't need to follow the rules. I may not agree with how harsh Australia has been but they country their choice!

Gardeningtipsneeded · 06/01/2022 08:12

I was team Oz but now I think they are a bit cowardly for deciding to let him in but then backtracking when they got back lash. I imagine Djokovic is too rich to care really and although I believe he is a bit of a twat, be has stuck to his guns.

Gechik · 06/01/2022 08:12

It's likely he got the exemption to play tennis because he had Covid recently, this is what has been reported in a few places
Samcro · 06/01/2022 08:13

Darbs76 · 06/01/2022 08:13

Team Australia. Their country, their rules

AlexaShutUp · 06/01/2022 08:13

Assuming there is no genuine medical reason why he cannot be vaccinated, then Australia is absolutely right to apply the same rules to him as it does to everyone else. Why on earth should it be any different just because he happens to be a very good tennis player... there are people who haven't seen their loved ones for ages, there is no reason for him to be prioritised.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 06/01/2022 08:13

Totally team aus but agree with gardening. They’re only decided to enforce the rules because of the backlash

JustUseTheDoorSanta · 06/01/2022 08:13

@Exhausteddog

This.

72,500 cases per day is at population level equivalent to the UK, so Australia might as well back off from travel restrictions. Slowing spread by having everyone tested would be best for the tournament, just relying on vaccination is naive. That said, Djokovic is an arrogant fool who should not have been allowed to make a mockery of the rules around exemptions. I'm still somewhat surprised that a top sportsman didn't know a single sensible medic who could have told him vaccination is safer than the virus.

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/01/2022 08:13

Novak is U

silentpool · 06/01/2022 08:13

We're at the start of a serious outbreak and I'm not sure anyone would have patience with him flouting the rules, right now.

MrsWhites · 06/01/2022 08:14

Team Australia, if he and I were on the same plane with the same ‘medical exception’ I assume I would be refused a visa so why should he be granted entry? He’s not above the rules just because he can play tennis!

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 06/01/2022 08:14

Australia shouldn't change its rules for him. Does r have a medical condition or is he just another bonkers anti-vaxxer?

Gardeningtipsneeded · 06/01/2022 08:16

But they gave him the visa under their own rules and told him he could play. They granted the medical exemption.
They revoked it on his arrival because of backlash.

Gechik · 06/01/2022 08:18

Novak is u to think that the rules are not for him but this is no different to other celebrities and our government that also think rules don't apply to them

Lazydaisydaydream · 06/01/2022 08:18

@MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers

He’s an anti vaccer, but his claim for exemption was because he already had covid (about 9 months ago though I think).

No matter your feelings on vaccination, if you don’t meet the criteria to enter a country then you don’t get a free pass because you’re a big headed tennis player.

Porridgeislife · 06/01/2022 08:18

I’m definitely Team Australia. If he’d kept his gob shut and not gloated about his exemption, I don’t think any of this would have happened.

Most countries don’t permit travellers that aren’t fully vaccinated to enter without some type of quarantine period, or to enter at all, so I don’t think Australia’s rules are particularly out of line. You can’t enter Germany or the US without full vaccination.

Gechik · 06/01/2022 08:20

The visa to play is apparently a different one to the one that lets you into Australia
