@Sirzy

Australia have their entry rules. He doesn’t meet them therefore he can’t enter.

The rules can’t differ just because of who he is

This Rules is rules
Blackbird2020 · 17/01/2022 10:52

So what about the 4 others who did enter on the same grounds. Border control doesn’t seem to be doing it’s job very well….

milkyaqua · 17/01/2022 11:10

He won't be missed and we're all sick of hearing about him.

Soooo sick of hearing about him.

Pazuzu · 17/01/2022 11:22

Team Australia. Their rules, it really is simple.

If you don't want the vaccine, crack on but don't expect everyone else to bend to your will.

BoredZelda · 17/01/2022 13:03

Australia have their entry rules. He doesn’t meet them therefore he can’t enter.

Except they granted him the Visa based on the information he provided. If that wasn’t enough then what the hell is the Border Authority doing if they grant a Visa when someone doesn’t have the correct paperwork?

This piece in the Guardian today sums it up perfectly:

Roussette · 17/01/2022 13:58

Thank you Blackbird that's a v interesting article.

Blackbird2020 · 17/01/2022 14:09

You’re very welcome! It’s not often someone can express all aspects of such a complicated situation so eloquently.

Roussette · 17/01/2022 14:40

Indeed. A fascinating read. Djokovic is a very complex character and a bit like Marmite!

Rainbunny · 17/01/2022 16:28

France have just announced that anybody attending a sporting event must be fully vaccinated and that includes the sports people competing.

Want to bet this is in response to the ND debacle? At this point it only looks like Wimbledon will not be requiring players to be vaccinated.

Well ND is supposed to be competing in the USA in March at Indian Wells and Miami. I have a feeling he will have to suck it up and get vaccinated or kiss his career goodbye for the rest of this year (or start looking for a dodgy doctor to give him a fake covid vaccine certificate..)

Roussette · 17/01/2022 17:03

That sorts out the 'Australia problem' for France then!

I can't imagine the French being happy if it happened over there

TurquoiseDress · 17/01/2022 21:16

It will be very interesting to see how this year pans out for Djokovic, will he be unable to compete in any grand slams due his unvaccinated status??

He'll be able to compete in plague island the UK at Wimbledon.
Tealightsandd · 18/01/2022 01:16

What I wonder is what will happen for the Russian player, if Sputnik isn't recognised in other countries? I guess she could get a different vaccine abroad?

Ooh this bit is infuriating:

"This is a man who has done more than any leading player to attack the principle of equal pay in tennis, with his insistence that “women should fight for what they think they deserve and we should fight for what we think we deserve”"

bundevac · 18/01/2022 11:18

“women should fight for what they think they deserve and we should fight for what we think we deserve”"

if he even said that what's wrong with it?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/01/2022 11:41

A bit I found interesting in that article is him saying in his book that he had been brought up under communism. Was Slobodan Milošević a communist? Because Djokovic was born in May 1987 and Milošević was president of Serbia from1989 to 1997, so his was the rule Djokovic was being brought up under. I'd've said Milošević was a Nationalist Socialist and closer to a Nazi than to a communist, not that there was much to choose between Hitler and Stalin really.

Isaw3ships · 18/01/2022 13:09

Sick to death of the one rule for one and another for the rest of us.
He’s choice not to get vaccinated but all this wiggling to try to stay in Oz- I’m not sure I believe he ever had Covid but if he did then he shouldn’t have been swanning around potentially infecting others as if he was something special and exempt from restrictions. And if he wasn’t then he was a flat out liar.
And as for the ‘my people ‘ ticked the wrong box, sent the wrong form, advised me blah blah blah shit - that just shows he’ll make a good dodgy politician one day, always passing the Buck.

Isaw3ships · 18/01/2022 13:13

‘ Indeed. A fascinating read. Djokovic is a very complex character and a bit like Marmite!’

Mmm, If he was actually like marmite, I’m not sure marmite would actually exist anymore…
I think he’s mentally ill, he believes his own mythS.
Doesn’t stop him from being good at tennis though. Unfortunately.

It was suggested to an Australian that he was like Marmite, and the reply was, "Well, that's it. We have Vegemite here."
Roussette · 18/01/2022 14:26

Absolutely!

I was in a hotel and they had both Marmite and Vegemite. I did a taste test and of course Marmite won Grin

Isaw3ships · 18/01/2022 14:27

In a few years he’s going to be leading some ultra right, misogynistic, homophobic government in Serbia anyway and where he plays tennis will be the least of anyone’s worries…

It’s a very plausible scenario - he’s not going to go quietly into tennis coaching, let’s face it.
Isaw3ships · 18/01/2022 14:37

Serbian dictator all the way… he already thinks he’s some kind of Messiah…
