Absolutely Team Australia, and New Zealand would do well to follow their example of not bending the tiles for people just because they’re famous, while their own citizens, who are fully vaccinated, still can’t enter.
I wish
Alondra · 06/01/2022 08:38

Team Australia. Entry in any country is depends on their laws, not personal interpretation or wishes.

Egghead68 · 06/01/2022 08:38

Team Australia although it’s all political

Soontobe60 · 06/01/2022 08:39

@Gardeningtipsneeded

But they gave him the visa under their own rules and told him he could play. They granted the medical exemption. They revoked it on his arrival because of backlash.

He wasn’t allowed entry to the country, border control did not allow him in. He believes his money and fame means he can play the system and make his own rules up. Good for the Australian government for not bowing down to pressure from his entourage.
JuneOsborne · 06/01/2022 08:39

You can't get round the rules,just because of who you are.

Anyone else imagining his horror at being in the quarantine hotel? Not his usual level of luxury, I'm sure.

Wineat5isfine · 06/01/2022 08:40

Team Aus! The same rules should apply to everyone even those with extra super special celebrity status…

If he can prove why he is medically exempt and it’s genuine, then fair enough - but if he can’t, I hope he enjoys the flight home 👋🏻

PoshWatchShitShoes · 06/01/2022 08:40

Australia. I'm pissed off with his attitude.

BashStreetKid · 06/01/2022 08:40

I'm still somewhat surprised that a top sportsman didn't know a single sensible medic who could have told him vaccination is safer than the virus.

I'm sure he did. People with his mindset don't listen to sensible people.

If his exemption was based on having had covid 9 months ago, it's pretty clear it shouldn't have been granted as that won't make him immune now.

Flapjacker48 · 06/01/2022 08:41

He is an anti-vax airhead.

Glittertwins · 06/01/2022 08:42

Definitely with Australia on this. I don't necessarily agree with the rules however that's their prerogative and all their citizens have had to abide by them.
Now, if only he had kept his mouth shut on social media...only got himself to blame!

BillMasen · 06/01/2022 08:43

I’m reading that he was granted an exemption in line with the rules, and the same as anyone else, but has been unable to provide the required proof.

So yep I’m kind of with Australia I think

toomuchlaundry · 06/01/2022 08:47

Team Australia.

It seems very convenient that someone who is anti vaccine just happens to have a medical exemption to the vaccine

Dasher789 · 06/01/2022 08:47

@Exhausteddog

I think they are both unreasonable. Australian rules seem incredibly harsh and unreasonable. However he is unreasonable to think they don't apply to him.
I completely agree with this.
RampantIvy · 06/01/2022 08:47

Novax is being unreasonable

I love the way his name can be changed to this ^^
If he is being vociferous about vaccines he has to expect the consequences.

Riverlee · 06/01/2022 08:47

Novak wasn’t the only one who was initially granted medical exemption. According to this article, a few other people were also granted exemption by the tennis organisation.

Therefore, Novak was actually permitted to enter the country legally, and it was when he arrived, that he was refused entry. The whole situation has been handled badly.

Novak article

JassyRadlett · 06/01/2022 08:48

He had been granted a medical exemption, it's nobody's business but his and his doctors of why.

The threshold for medical exemption in Australia is quite high, and certainly doesn’t include prior infection etc.

So as well as him and his doctors, the evidence to back up his medical exemption is the business of the Border Force agents admitting him.

Shade17 · 06/01/2022 08:48

Team Aus! He’s a weapons-grade bellend.

potniatheron · 06/01/2022 08:48

Team Aus. Djokovic is a bonkers anti-vaxxer and his wife has been spreading social media nonsense about vaxes and 5G. Given their fame, she is hugely irresponsible and malicious to be doing this. Absolutely right not to let him in, and right also to make him a prominent example. Play stupid games, win no prizes.

Soontobe60 · 06/01/2022 08:48

@littledrummergirl

Team Novak. He had been granted a medical exemption, it's nobody's business but his and his doctors of why.
It’s the business of the country he wants to enter.
Curiousmouse · 06/01/2022 08:49

Novak is BU.

Oblomov22 · 06/01/2022 08:49

What are his reasons for not being vaccinated?

grapewine · 06/01/2022 08:50

@PoshWatchShitShoes

Australia. I'm pissed off with his attitude.
This. No one should be above the rules. He could have quarantined. But no, he's special. Fuck off.
user1471447924 · 06/01/2022 08:51

If he’s deported will he also be banned from reentering Australia for three years? 🙊😂

OhdearOhdearOhdearIndeed · 06/01/2022 08:51

@Exhausteddog

I think they are both unreasonable. Australian rules seem incredibly harsh and unreasonable. However he is unreasonable to think they don't apply to him.
Agree with this.

I think some countries have gone far too far with rules and it says a lot about their leaders, but Djokovik needs to accept that he has made his choice.

Is he an anti vaxxer though, has he been telling people not to have the vaccine or has he not opted to have it himself? If it is the latter, he isn't an anti vaxxer (presumably he's had other vaccines to travel worldwide) he just doesn't want this vaccine and might want to give it time to see if any long term effects arise before deciding to have it. Despite what people say, a few people have died and some people have had side effects from the vaccine, so as he has had COVID already, it might not seem worth the risk to him. He can still transmit COVID with the vaccine.

Still, he has made his choice, so he has to be prepared to not be able to visit countries with strict rules around vaccination.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 06/01/2022 08:52

Novax Djokovic…
