To ask about super king size bed stuff...

I remember reading a thread last year of so many people saying super king beds changed their life etc etc - so I got one!

However after a good few months of having it I'm starting to find there's a duvet issue. We have a super king duvet and we still somehow fight over the edges of it.

I remember on the thread I read people said they had a super king bed and 2 x double duvets - I wondered if anyone could explain a bit more how that ends up working/looking? Can you see an obvious 'join' when the bed is made? And is the double duvet long enough? It's the same size as the bed and we're both quite tall!

TIA Grin

You definitely need separate duvets

You can see the join but it never bothered me.

Makes sleeping so much nicer!

We have one double and one single on ours, we have white duvet covers so you don’t really notice two covers when you make the bed. We share the double duvet as we sleep quite close together, my son finds a double duvet a bit much so the single is for him. Two doubles would be fine, and much better if each adult wanted a duvet as a single barely covers you.

purplesequins · 05/01/2022 20:51

we have a single duvet each.
I need if warm and dh not so much.
it's bliss.
much much easier to change as well.

Thank you guys!! If anyone sees this and doesn't mind posting a photo of their bed with 2 double duvets on that would be amazing!

Currently trying to convince the husband it's a good idea but he's a skinflint so keeps coming up with excuses not to Grin

We just have a superking duvet. Confused What's the issue others have with that?

MatildaTheCat · 05/01/2022 20:58

We manage just fine despite DH having some quilt hogging tendencies. I tuck the edge around me before I go to sleep to secure my share. We both sleep well over towards our own edge so certainly not snuggling up in the middle (or not that often!)

Splashinginpuddles15 · 05/01/2022 21:01

We have a super king duvet . Dh still managed to hog it so now I also have the double duvet from our old bed too . Yup , you can see two duvets , but it is totally worth it . I guess that if this is a problem , you could also roll one up and keep it at the foot of the bed .

We have super king with tempur mattress so duvets are too warm. We use top sheet and blankets (j Lewis cotton cellular and in the winter a very thin cotton duvet (M&S) if we get too warm we can remove layers.

PleasantBirthday · 05/01/2022 21:06

We have the double duvets and honestly, it's messy looking even when the bed is made but nobody sees it but us, so who cares? I'm considering some kind of a blanket thing to go over them but I haven't seen one that's not eyewateringly expensive for nobody to see so I haven't.

Sleepwise though, I wouldn't go back.

Butteredtoast55 · 05/01/2022 21:07

I'd recommend going one step further and having two duvets on two separate beds in two different rooms. It's worked wonders for me and DH! Grin

Why don’t you get an emperor size duvet? Bigger than a super king….

Cupcakegirl13 · 05/01/2022 21:12

Not duvet related but a game changer on a super king bed are super king sized pillows - no gaps now and more space for your head !

Missatkins · 05/01/2022 21:14

I have a super king bed, but have emperor size duvet. THEDUVETSTORE.CO.UK stocks emperor bedding. I also have extra long pillows!

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 05/01/2022 21:16

I was always advised to have a duvet one size bigger than bed so we have Ming size bed with super king duvet...that doesn't help you though does it?!

RandomMess · 05/01/2022 21:18

Single duvet each and a throw over the top.

Then the eldest moved out and separate rooms - never slept so well in my life Wink

GoodnightGrandma · 05/01/2022 21:18

I just have a super king duvet.

GoodnightGrandma · 05/01/2022 21:19

We’re in separate rooms so I have the bed to myself - result !!

MrsEricBana · 05/01/2022 21:19

SK duvet works fine for us too. I think a join would wind me up visually but otherwise own duvet sounds bliss. Dh and I were discussing just yesterday how all our gps had either totally separate bedrooms or twin beds separated by a bedside table.

gobbledygoook · 05/01/2022 21:20

We have two super king duvets! Then when I make the bed, just put one on top of the other (both white and the exact same, down duvets) and it looks like a super plump hotel bed! Never slept so well in my life.

LazySundayPlease · 05/01/2022 21:21

We have a super king and a light weight super king duvet. As it is light, it's easier to move it!

But if I was doing it again, I'd be tempted by a single duvet each!

geminiflanagan · 05/01/2022 21:22

We have x2 single duvets, have done for the last 15 years. Works fantastically- I have a lightweight one as I run hot, he has a 10.5 tog all year round. Mad man.

I think double duvets would be too much, there would be duvets everywhere!!

twosecs · 05/01/2022 21:32

I read "Ming" as another way of describing an emperor sized duvet before realising what you meant 😂
stripetop · 05/01/2022 21:35

We have also just got a super king. No duvet issue but pillow issues. Seems to fit six along top in twos with nobody in it, four not enough, pillows everywhere when sleeping.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 05/01/2022 21:36

This has just reminded me that when I lived in Austria we each had a single duvet in the double bed. Seemed mental but when I moved back to the UK I missed it! Only just remembered about that now. We have a super king duvet in the super king bed and I agree it isn’t big enough!
