To ask about super king size bed stuff...

I remember reading a thread last year of so many people saying super king beds changed their life etc etc - so I got one!

However after a good few months of having it I'm starting to find there's a duvet issue. We have a super king duvet and we still somehow fight over the edges of it.

I remember on the thread I read people said they had a super king bed and 2 x double duvets - I wondered if anyone could explain a bit more how that ends up working/looking? Can you see an obvious 'join' when the bed is made? And is the double duvet long enough? It's the same size as the bed and we're both quite tall!

TIA Grin

Can’t see super king size pillows on theduvetstore (are they called something different?)

WellTidy · 05/01/2022 21:42

I have an emperor bed and an emperor duvet. You could have an emperor duvet on a super king and that would solve your problems. Are your pillows wide enough? You can also get long pillows. I bought all my bedding on The Duvet Store website.

We have two duvets and we sleep a lot better, wouldn’t go back to one.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 05/01/2022 21:51

Duvet each, only way forward.

Lacedwithgrace · 05/01/2022 21:52

We had a super king with 2 king duvets and a super king throw over the top to cover the join. Now we have an emperor bed with 1 ginormous duvet

We have a king size bed with a super king duvet, maybe you need to see if you can get queen size?

BlueberryJam123 · 05/01/2022 21:59

We have a super kind bed and a king duvet, and it works for us. I don't know why a super kind duvet is too small for others.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/01/2022 22:06

I've always had a duvet one size larger than the bed, so when I had a double bed it was a king and now the bed's kingsize the duvet's a superking

I think the size above supeeking's called "emperor" and you can certainly get them in the UK

Have 2 singles here and a bedspread for over the top so it looks nice!

Davros · 05/01/2022 22:10

We have two single duvets under a full-size bedspread. Keeps us warm and feeling "connected" and looks good when made

Dontknowwhatsnormal · 05/01/2022 22:13

@Cupcakegirl13 how didn’t I know superking pillows were a thing!! Off to order some now I feel so giddy about this haha

ChocolateHelps · 05/01/2022 22:22

Dusk.co.uk.have super king pillows. Have had SK bed with a double duvet each. Have done for 25 years after our first weekend away in Austrians the hotel big double bed had 2 duvets in it. It's always a bit odd when we do have a huge duvet that we have to share on holiday...much prefer our separate duvets!

UnderCaffeinated · 05/01/2022 22:23

We have a super king bed with a super king duvet but I have my own double duvet underneath and DH has his blanket (Its a Costco queen size affair or something). It looks nice when its made because you can't see my duvet or his ugly blanket.

I primarily sleep under my own duvet with the super king one over the top of that if it is cold and he uses the main duvet and his blanket if it is cold, or should the dog decide that he will be sleeping on the bed tonight (puppy, 7 months old and 35kg) and he can't pull the duvet out from under him Grin

We have a superking duvet and I wrap myself in a lovely quilted throw as both DH and DC are duvet huggers (the throw gets folded up and put away)

I also have this on my superking bed which covers a multitude of sins and looks quite boutique hotel. Got mine for £90 in sale last year

We have 2 superking duvets because I hate sharing a duvet! And we also squabble about how to make the bed, I fold the duvet down to air the bed, and he tucks it all up neatly, so basically, we treat them like 2 single beds!

furballfun · 05/01/2022 22:41

We don't make the bed, which solves your dilemma Wink

RoomOfRequirement · 05/01/2022 22:41

Definitely separate duvets! And you can see the join so we have a thin SK blanket over the 2 duvets so the bed looks 'made' properly when we're not in it. The blanket occasionally gets used in winter but it's mostly just there to look pretty and it works.

toddybell · 05/01/2022 22:41

The trick is to always go one size up. So double bed= king size duvet, kind size bed= super kind duvet, super king bed= emperor size duvet. We have the latter. It costs an arm and leg in bedding but worth the good nights sleep.

AnotherEmma · 05/01/2022 22:50

I've read the two duvet thing on mumsnet before and am very tempted. DH and I have a king size bed (not enough space for a superking, sadly) and a king size duvet, and I don't like sharing! He tends to yank it when I've got all nice and cosy, rather irritating.

Is a single duvet big enough, though? Can you wrap yourself up in it? Would it be silly to have two double duvets on a king size bed? Is there such a thing as a "small double" size duvet?!

CuteGirlsWatchMeEatEther · 05/01/2022 22:53

Does it matter? Who’s in your bedroom judging your duvet(s)?

RandomMess · 05/01/2022 23:03

A single duvet is the size of a double mattress if that makes sense.

I've never found it too small tbh.

SunflowerSmith · 05/01/2022 23:18

We've got a sk bed and two single duvets, it's worked really well, dh rolls over a lot and used to let the cold air in so now I can tuck myself under my own quilt, we've also had different togs as I feel the cold so have a thicker one.

You can't really see the join until we get in but I do like the idea a previous poster put about having a bedspread over the top.

SunflowerSmith · 05/01/2022 23:19

It's much easier to find nice bedding too, I often found lovely bed sets that only came in single, double or king.

RandomMess · 05/01/2022 23:23

The other joy of single duvets is they are much easier to change and wash etc. cheaper too.

GodspeedJune · 05/01/2022 23:35

My bed is SK and we get on fine with a SK duvet. We also have normal sized pillows, the gap is the perfect place for a cat to sleep betwixt us.
