To ask about super king size bed stuff...

GayParis · 05/01/2022 20:45

I remember reading a thread last year of so many people saying super king beds changed their life etc etc - so I got one!

However after a good few months of having it I'm starting to find there's a duvet issue. We have a super king duvet and we still somehow fight over the edges of it.

I remember on the thread I read people said they had a super king bed and 2 x double duvets - I wondered if anyone could explain a bit more how that ends up working/looking? Can you see an obvious 'join' when the bed is made? And is the double duvet long enough? It's the same size as the bed and we're both quite tall!

TIA Grin

@BottlingBurpsForGrandma

We just have a superking duvet. Confused What's the issue others have with that?
This is what we will be doing when we can eventually get one. Currently we have a double bed with a king size duvet.

Two single sized duvets with a throw over the bottom of the bed. Experienced it in a German B&B and themn saved up to have the same at home.
I have linen bedlinen that is supposed to look a bit wrinkly and rumpled so it looks fine despite a "seam" down the middle

@FruitMelange

or should the dog decide that he will be sleeping on the bed tonight (puppy, 7 months old and 35kg) and he can't pull the duvet out from under him

Eew. You've got more than a duvet problem. You have made yourself a dog problem. I'm around 3 happy, healthy working labradors every day. They are loved and live a life of dog luxury. Plenty of exercise, good food and loving and caring owners.
But no way does it benefit them to learn to be in your bed. Ugh! Our labradors roll in fox shit wherever they find it. They all do. It's like their raison d'etre.

If your dog isn't covered in all sorts of crap it's not living its best life. Ok , let it in the house, but not ever in your bed. Eeeeew.

I don't have a duvet problem, I am happy with our set up haha. Thanks for your thoughts though, I'll bear them in mind?Hmm

We put a big patchwork quilt over top of the 2 duvets.

FerretFumbler · 11/01/2022 08:09

SK duvet here and no issues.

GayParis · 12/01/2022 20:29

Just incase anyone stumbles across this and reads it -

I borrowed and tried two doubles from PIL's, too much duvet - so tried two singles and it was amazing!

So I bought two night owl Coverless duvets from the fine bedding company and I'm so glad I did! It's brilliant having my own duvet and they're so soft and fluffy and luxurious! Also bought a big thick velvet throw so the bed looks lovely and made up!

Thanks everyone who commented!

Just pop a bedspread over the top and keep the whole thing looking smart

QOD · 14/01/2022 12:06

@GayParis
thats exactly what i have

nomoneytree · 14/01/2022 19:23

We have a superking bed and just have a superking duvet. We have never had this problem.

QOD · 15/01/2022 07:50

I like sleeping with my feet out both side of my quilt lol. Dh likes to be hot, I like to be cool
To be fair we have Norwegian family and it’s normal there which is what produced the 💡 moment
Initially I had 2 single quilts with covers but when I saw the fine bedding COVERLESS ones. Omg. Stuff the quilt in the machine. Dries naturally in 90 mins. No changing quilt covers. Fab

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2022 07:55

We have 2 singles on a super king plus a bedspread to make it look tidy on the day.

Coverless duvets? Where you don't have to change the cover??? Can this be real?!

I literally cannot stand changing the duvet covers. This is amazing!!

RandomMess · 15/01/2022 08:20

@GayParis so glad I helped convert you to the proper arrangements GrinWink

WaterBottle123 · 15/01/2022 08:24

Who would see 'the join' though? Do you regularly run tours of your bedroom?

Oh join the newsletter and get 10% off

I change them well wash them every Sunday
Could definitely put the same one back on in less than 2 hrs but as I have 2 x 10.5 tog and 2 x 4.5 I just put a fresh one on for each of us (I’m always hot he’s always cold so the 4.5s are MINE )

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 15/01/2022 08:34

Yep two king size beds in two different rooms and we both sleep very well most nights. We sleep together if we have guests but that's not often.

Our reasons are that I toss and turn, he snores, I like a cool bed and he is like sleeping with a furnace.

scooterbear · 15/01/2022 08:45

@QOD I've just sent this to DP-we are about to move in together. He could not be more delighted as he literally cannot change a duvet cover without getting in a rage/injuring himself. Genuinely excited!!

RandomMess · 15/01/2022 08:47

Such a shame those coverless duvets have polyester outward, not for me!

alphabetsoup1980 · 15/01/2022 08:51

Same!!!!!! He's got sleep apnea so I actually sleep now!!

liveforsummer · 15/01/2022 09:11

Get another duvet but keep the super king, make bed with second duvet directly on top, it won't obviously in the way it would if lying two smaller ones side by side
