hi! New to this all but I started a new claim for my daughter and it was received and stamped on 30th October, reaching 9 weeks and no response as of yet, any ideas of the waiting time ?

@Sunnyshine12121 it sounds a lot, it’s tough to feel like you are fighting and not getting anywhere. Don’t give up hope. Definitely ask for the reasons it was turned down and then just logically work through each point. Sending 🤗

Welshmam2005 · 13/01/2022 15:49

Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some advice please, my daughter's claim was received by DLA 5th October and still no decision made. I spoke to a lovely gentleman today and he mentioned that they have asked medical services for advice not sure if that's a good thing or bad ?

Thank you

xxAmy · 13/01/2022 15:57

@Sunnyshine12121
Call dla back, ask for a statement of reasons. When your get that read it, it will say what more they need in evidence… then start your MR but you must do so within 1 month.

Send them a diary, send them letters from people who know your little one, ask schools to write a letter for you and hand it to you for you to send with further evidence, what ever you can get your hands on send! I’m so sorry you didn’t get awarded this time but DONT give up, you know your child better than someone reading about them on paper ❤️

Sunnyshine12121 · 13/01/2022 16:07

@xxAmy @tangledzebra thanks everyone I have asked the school today for a letter but they are not very helpful oth these things also I have done all this myself even getting him his appointments ect also I was tould over the phone the lady was quite rude and just said your son was refused and to read the letter that has been sent to you today that it has the reasons why in there they should get it in 7-10 working days x

Lougle · 13/01/2022 16:11

@Sunnyshine12121 don't panic. Ask for their statement of reasons. Then get your copy of the form (I hope you photocopied it?) and go through it, noting anywhere it contradicts the statement of reasons.

E.g. 'Your child can dress and undress independently'

Then you can write 'You say 'Your child can dress and undress independently' but I told you on page 14 of his claim form that I assist DS with all buttons and zippers due to hypermobility in his fingers. I also told you on page 15 that I have to check his clothes to make sure they are clean, and ensure that he is wearing the right clothing for the season. Most 10 year olds can choose their own clothing and put it on independently.

I ended my mandatory reconsideration letter by saying 'I can only conclude that you didn't read the form, because if you had you would have awarded DLA.'

Lougle · 13/01/2022 16:11

DD2 went from nothing to mid rate care and low rate mobility after my letter.

Sunnyshine12121 · 13/01/2022 16:33

@louge no silly me didn't keep a copy of the form but I can tell them I exactly what I put on the form thanks everyone for giving me the currage to do this let's just hope the letter with the reasons why comes soon x

Sunnyshine12121 · 13/01/2022 16:38

@louge how did you know what I have problems with lol and that my son is 10 😊it's such a long hard struggle to get anyone to believe me

Lougle · 13/01/2022 17:07

Lucky guess Smile

Welshmam2005 · 13/01/2022 17:11

Hi all, sorry to jump in again, but looking through all the thread and I can't understand why my daughter's is taking so long as they received the forms 5th October, they asked for extra information which I sent and the they received 21st December and now they have asked for advice from the medical services. Any advice would be appreciated this long wait is draining me.

So hot and miss! I had a renewal I completely forgot to fill in and send back.. sent in with just 4 weeks before the cut off thinking I'd have no chance of it being sorted. 2 weeks later all re-approved! So you have evidence of what you have sent? I'd be chasing them up in writing and sending recorded delivery.
drybird · 13/01/2022 17:32

Hit and miss ☺️

Welshmam2005 · 13/01/2022 17:35

Hi @sunnyshine12121 thanks for your reply 😊 yes I spoke with someone today which he informed me that the DM was asking for advice from the medical services, never heard of them to be honest. This is a first claim and sent aload of information just can't understand why it's taking so long

Lougle · 13/01/2022 17:40

@Welshmam2005 if your claim form suggests your child needs a lot more care than their manual describes for the condition you're stating, then they will ask advice. Or if the condition is highly variable, or if it isn't clear what bracket she falls in to.

DaggerIsle · 13/01/2022 17:41

For those if you who have children on the autism spectrum- if you have high care low mobility you are now eligible for a blue badge.
Not sure if they give it to every applicant but we got ours at the end of 2019 (DC was 10 at the time) and it has made such a difference to our routine.

Welshmam2005 · 13/01/2022 17:44

Hi @drybird 😊 they have all the information needed as I was told today but he didn't really go into detail of why they have asked for advice from the medical services, he did express that the medical services can take upto 4 weeks but they asked advice on the 16th December so it's due any time I guess. Has anyone had this experience with the medical services at all please ?

Thank you 😊

Welshmam2005 · 13/01/2022 17:49

@Lougle thank you for your advice, hopefully it shouldn't be that much longer to wait, 14 weeks seems a lot longer than usual

drybird · 13/01/2022 17:49

@DaggerIsle I was refused by our local council which I was quite miffed about as we have two children both with autism on higher care and one on high mobility due many other issues. It was in lockdown so I just gave up. It would be so useful as many places can be a real challenge for me when I have them both in the car and have to park further away.

DaggerIsle · 13/01/2022 18:41

@drybird I applied back in September 2019 when they announced that autism would be allowed as a criteria for the blue badge.
I was high care low mobility I'm amazed you are refused with high mobility!
Can you try again?

Welshmam2005 · 13/01/2022 19:00

No, I just remember reading the decision makers' guide and seeing reference to the medical referral.

I don't know how current this is, but this is the guide for decision makers <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1019126/a-z-child-medical-conditions.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiXz9iDyK_1AhVRQUEAHSuXD2oQFnoECDIQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3tfRyEqHWK91dhx-8eJlSb" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Children

Hiya sorry to jump on wondering if anyone knows how long it's taking for someone to look at the claim again. They received my sons new claim 27th Oct I rang today to check the progress and they made the decision to refuse, I checked they had the additional info I sent in 10th Dec which they didn't (turns out it had been added onto my other sons claim as I sent in the same envelope) now they have the additional info she's put it to be looked at again and a decision to be made but wondered if anyone has had 2nd decision and how long it took or have been waiting
Thank you Smile
