Change of circumstances form received 3rd Oct. I had a letter saying it would be up to 11 weeks. Obviously that's now passed. Interesting to hear others who've done change of circs are now being told 16 weeks. Late Jan then!

LakieLady · 31/12/2021 08:34

I don't do that many DLAs, but the two I did this year took 4 months and 5 months to get a decision.

PIP applications are taking 4-5 months for an assessment, but the interval between assessment and decision is really random - some people get them as early as 6 weeks after assessment, one has been waiting 4 months.

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 31/12/2021 11:44

@Wecando oh no really? I’ve not heard of anyone who had an interview for their child! What kind of things did they ask?

Lougle · 31/12/2021 11:49

PIP can ask for an assessment but DLA child don't normally.

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 31/12/2021 12:02

@Lougle oh phew I hope that’s the case. I hate things like that, not sure how my daughter would cope tbh with an assessment with a stranger!

BooksAndGin · 31/12/2021 12:03

I sent my DCs review back 10th December, already got the award back.

BooksAndGin · 31/12/2021 12:04

Mind you I put in for my PIP review this year as well and had a new award within 6 weeks as well. Think it's the office by me dealing with them quicker than other offices.

That's encouraging @BooksAndGin. I've just sent DD1's claim form to transfer to PIP from DLA. I sent very full answers, with 109 pages of extra evidence, but then I signed up to the Benefits and Work site and I'm wondering if I missed some things.

Oh well, we'll see. She got high rate care from age 3 but I've heard that PIP is harder.

Suzzie101 · 31/12/2021 20:41

@Lougle I’m just not sure as to what way it all works, how can people who have no experience of these disabilities make the correct decision on rate of care and mobility

Hi @suzzie101 thanks for the message, I lost it in the feed so here it is Smilemy two boys were diagnosed with ASD before their 3 rd birthday and I was advised by the paediatrician to claim DLA for the them as like your daughter they both required a lot of care and supervision all the time compared to a child with out SN of the same age. They were both awarded high rate care and we were able to get a EHCP put in place too. I got supporting letters from the paediatrician, nursery worker, HV anyone that was involved in boys day to day lives I got as much as I could in way of evidence. Hope this helps I applied for our youngest in August only got an award notice 4th December. They said they are so busy right now what is normally 6 weeks is taking up to 16 weeks.
Suzzie101 · 31/12/2021 21:28

@mumb7 that’s a great help honestly, could I just ask what an ‘EHCP’ is? this is all so new to me so still trying to find my feet with it all, as most of my daughters diagnosis has gone on during covid I haven’t seen my HV or anything like that but when I rang DLA yesterday they said it was with the decision maker and that they were just waiting on a report from my GP. I hope they don’t let her down and give what she is rightly entitled to.

Can I wait with you as well. I’m waiting for an application for my daughter. I called on Thursday (so yesterday) and was told they are working on claims up till the 19th, mine was received on the 25th.

It’s really nerve wracking waiting and knowing that it’s all in someone else’s hands. I sent in letters from the GP and her specialist doctor so am hoping they have enough to make the decision.

tangledzebra · 31/12/2021 21:36

Sorry 19th October I meant

mumb7 · 31/12/2021 21:41

Hi of course this is a link all about it contact.org.uk/help-for-families/information-advice-services/education-learning/ehc-plans-assessments/what-is-an-ehc-plan/

Honestly it's not a scary application as the local authorities make out. They told us we would never awarded an EHCP but he did and that was one we submitted ourselves. We have a key workers within the SEN department who helps change the plan according to our sons needs to ensure he has the best support in school and school is at a pace that is suitable for him as he had ASD global development delay , separation anxiety and sensory overload. The plan makes it a lot easier to get help and things in place in school.

Suzzie101 · 31/12/2021 21:42

@tangledzebra of course, we can wait together, our claims were received 5 days apart (mine 30th october) i think it all depends on the office it was sent to, my claim is with the decision maker but can take another 4 week (rang yesterday also) they said they had requested a report from the GP which has now been returned so i’m hoping they don’t take too much longer😩

mumb7 · 31/12/2021 21:42

Yes the hanging around waiting for GP letters is hard. Can you get a letter from Nursery just to say what they have to do ?
You could also get a family member or someone who helps to care for your daughter wrote a letter too.

Suzzie101 · 31/12/2021 21:45

@mumb7 I’ve honestly never heard about this but I will definitely be looking in to it more as the EA aren’t really playing ball when it comes to my daughter (admit i send her to a main stream school when i’ve already said she will not cope mentally & physically) so this will be perfect to read in to more. thankyou so much

Did you include lots of evidence? Did you get called for an interview?

I'm naively hoping that as DD1 has her EHCP review document, a recent ASD assessment report, and a recent Ed Psych assessment report, along with a recent paediatrician letter which summarises her whole medical history, and lots of psychiatrist's letters (109 pages in total), we might get a paper assessment.
