Black Forest Gateaux should be served with...

Cream not chocolate ice cream.

Went to a restaurant today and the option was black Forest Gateaux with chocolate ice cream, that just seems wrong to me!

I think it should just be served as is. No cream. No ice-cream. Though ice-cream and cake is a match made in heaven.

Whipped cream, nothing else. I know it's dated but by god it's delicious. I've lost my DM's original 70s recipe sadly. I had black forest cake in the actual Black Forest a few years ago and it was epic.

Neither, just a liqueur on the side, a cherry brandy, or a baileys perhaps. Surely there is enough cream in a BFG as it is if it's made to a traditional recipe?
