to think that there's nothing more exciting in life than choosing a new diary/planner for the new year?

I don't think I spent this long choosing my childrens' pushchairs or even the family car!!

@baffledbunny I sense a kindred stationery spirit - I also accidentally buy those little diamine pots every time I order anything from cultpens!

What's your fountain pen nib preference? I discovered double broad a few years ago and am obsessed, especially for using with shimmery inks, but keep a couple of fine and medium for specific journals with narrow lines Grin

Looove sign pens and have been debating trying jelly rolls for a while, and love the Pitt pens I have so calligraphy versions look dangerously exciting/necessary, and it looks like we have similar tastes in pens (it's so important to have pens which write nicely, but not everyone gets this and many think I'm a proper weirdo) so I'm going to work my way through your links, thank you!

We're over at Ink Drops - @inkdropsbox on social :) January is my time for checking and updating website and am in process of doing new photos for the shop so please forgive any wonky bits!

I’ve been inept with diaries and planners all my life. Last a week and then it just sits there. Some of you might like the The Circle Planner for planning and reflecting on personal progress - I bought it in 2020 and well we all know how that year turned out.

I’m sticking to having my work (which i can switch off during annual leave) and personal calendars on my iPhone, as well as the notes app for lists, and the reminders and alarm apps to keep me organised.

@farendoftether

Does anyone use digital planners with an app like GoodNotes? I am finding myself falling down this rabbit hole after looking on Etsy.
What I really want is an actual planner synced to an app. Scribzee and Oxford planners sort of do this but they're so boring.

That would be glorious - I've not come across either of those so suspect I'm about to fall down another rabbit hole Smile

After starting this thread and reading all the replies and clicking on all the links, I have decided that what I needed all along is a Hobonichi Techo 2022 Cousin, which is nowhere to be bought, so I have gone for a Leuchtturm1917 A5 2022 weekly planner as a consolation price. Also, it is less than £20 whilst the Hobonichi is £50!! As soon as my Leuchtturm arrives, I will make a note in November to buy the Hobonichi for 2023.

hey thanks for the link will take a look!

My favourite fountain pens are the Kaweco sport with a fine nib (I have the bordeaux colour barrel and team it with the summer purple ink, it's my everyday carry as I am in love this little pen!) and my Lamy safari with EF nib. The kaweco fine is actually finer than the extra fine lol, but I love both. I also biught the Lamy calligraphy Joy recently (xmas pressie to myefl) with a 1.1 nib which I am getting to like a lot though it writes a bit drier than I'd like for some reason. I like the way it adds a touch of italicised flair to my writing which I didn't expect! Also love my dip pen with a flex nib which are amazing for calligraphy. Wish I was better at using them! I wish flex nib fountain pens were more common. Not sure why they aren't really.

I've never heard of a double broad nib before - which pen/brand is that for? I'm not that familiar with other brands of fps though I'm interested in learning more about the TWSBIs as everyone seems to rave about them on the facebook group I'm on. (ues I'm that much of a nerd I joined a group about it!)

Sounds good! Glad you have decided. I have used Leuchtterm before, and they are lovely, lovely books. I use one for my recipe collection (covered it in food stickers of course).

I agree that hobonichis can be expensive, but I tend to justify to myself that as I pay in Yen it's like not real money lol (until I see my bank balance haha). I liked the cousin but I ended up using mine as a sketchbook in the end as I didn't journal enough to justify all the space I had. I think the weeks is a bit cheaper but not sure as I pay in Yen lol.

You can sign up for the hobonichi emails for notification btw - they usually start seling the next year's one from 1 september - you need to try and get an order in early because they do go quite fast!

housemaus · 30/12/2021 14:59

I used a Papier planner for a few years and as paper planners go, I absolutely loved it!

I'm using Notion (a website/programme/app) now though - as a planner/habit tracker/commonplace book/budget planner/meal planner all in one. If you ever feel tempted to go to the dark (digital) side, it's the best thing I've found for planner obsessives!

TowandaForever · 30/12/2021 15:06

@MrsMadderRose

This is the thread for me! I get my weekly academic planner in august as it goes with the school year, and year wall planner in December. I LOVE a planner 😍 it’s not just the choosing I like, but lovingly marking it up with the school holidays, birthdays, events etc in different-coloured markers. And being able to see what’s happening when in a big overview makes me feel calm. Although my kids think I’m an anal nerd and laugh at me, they like it too and complain that their dad doesn’t have one at his!

The lovely paper and stationery aspect is a big part of it. I’ve tried calendar apps etc but never found one I can get on with that’s not a faff to use. I love having it on paper.

Do you have any recommendations for a wall planner?
MrsMadderRose · 30/12/2021 22:43

this is my current planner - unfortunately I haven’t found any that are as stylish as my weekly book-style one.

squeeeee I thought you might be Inkdrops - I love your box but had to unsub for a while due to personal finances. It's one of the ones I will re-sub to in the near future.

Re fountain pens... I have a J Herbin rollerball which takes ink cartridges so the best of both worlds. I also use "disposable" fountain pens in the form of a Fountain Pentel JM20 which I buy in bulk. I also use a Lamy Safari and a Platignum Studio from time to time.

JanisMoplin · 31/12/2021 16:21

I have ordered this Busy B Planner. It's rather teen girl, but I am feeling bit teen girl at the moment! Love the colourful pages. Ordering some nice pens now.

Bloody hell! I have a £2 ring bound diary from The Works every year. It does everything I want. Especially, it lies flat when open, so I can see at a glance what I need to do on any given day.
What more does anyone need?

mirandasnobs · 31/12/2021 19:24

People with paper diaries, do you use this for professional life or just personal ?

Just personal for me, if I included work stuff it would just become an overwhelming mess and I'd end up devaluing it in my eyes lol, as work is pretty meaningless to me at the moment.

I'm starting a bullet journal in the new year and may include work stuff in there - just key tasks to do and project deadlines, no details - but mostly I keep them separate.

Not going to apologise for playing with stationery, journals and art supplies when I have time... it's my happy place! Grin
dixiebloom · 01/01/2022 00:37

just ordered boxclever diary also have separate new one for meal planner & diet planner!

I have a paper work one A5 provided by work & also use phone calander for appointments & notes.
any suggestions for planner stickers?

J56789 · 01/01/2022 09:22

I used a work diary for years, then moved to A5 hard cover lined notebooks for personal use. A sort of bullet journal hybrid with a weekly to do list on one page and shopping list on the facing page, interspersed with notes re important phone calls and long term planning.

I'm drooling over the beautiful stationery suggestions though. I have a lovely paperchase notebook and pen that I've been saving for a special occasion Blush. I think today is the day.

Echobelly · 01/01/2022 09:23

I like getting one for work - I usually get that around November though, as I need to start putting things in it for the next year then.

toomuchturmericinwatermelon · 01/01/2022 09:45

I am still waiting to receive my Leuchtturm1917 weekly, I have ordered a monthly planner refill for my Filofax, and I am waiting to receive a personalised Papier dotted notebook. I can't wait to receive it all and start prettifying the pages BUT, after this thread, I feel like nothing but a Hobonichi will do. And I've never seen one in the flesh!!

PlanktonsComputerWife · 01/01/2022 12:27

It's finally the day to break in the first smooth white page! How is this not the best day of the year?

Hoping those awaiting diary deliveries are humanely put out of their misery soon by the postman's knock.

to think that there's nothing more exciting in life than choosing a new diary/planner for the new year?
Furries · 01/01/2022 13:22

Blimey, this thread has been an education. I just use my phone/iPad (sorry!)

@hilariousnamehere - that is an impressive list. I think I’d also need a planner to tick off that all other planners has been updated each day!

Am now off to do some searching, maybe I can be converted ...

crochetmonkey74 · 01/01/2022 14:05

I've got a brand new ella iconic daily planner to start but cant get the motivation! I need to get going!
