DH refusing to buy me what I ACTUALLY want - AIBU to find this frustrating?

A fairly everyday but not-cheap item of mine broke and this is a pain and inconveniences me all the time.

I’ve asked DH for a replacement for Christmas and he keeps deflecting, saying he’ll mend it (he won’t and even if he does it isn’t the same.)

AIBU to find it a bit frustrating?

Just ask for the money for it and buy a replacement. YANBU.

NotJustACigar · 23/12/2021 20:09

Maybe he'll get you one after all as a surprise? I asked DH for a karaoke machine last year and didn't get it on the grounds I would be annoying with it (probably true).

ClemDanFango · 23/12/2021 20:09

Hopefully he’s already bought it and wants it to be a surprise?

supersop60 · 23/12/2021 20:09

Not cheap, you say. Is it over your DH's budget? Is he rubbish at mending stuff? Did he break it?

SpacePotato · 23/12/2021 20:10

Why don't you just order/buy one yourself?

Iggly · 23/12/2021 20:10

Maybe he’s actually got it for Christmas and wants to surprise you?

If not, then YANBU. I asked for the same thing every year for a few years and he never got it. I think he thought it would be a waste. So I bought my own and use it all the time!

Greysealemperorpenguin · 23/12/2021 20:11

No - broke in an act of God sort of thing.

Not cheap but less expensive than what he actually bought me and had to return as I already had one!

Greysealemperorpenguin · 23/12/2021 20:11

No, he’s definitely not got it for me.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2021 20:11

If it's a fairly everyday item, I'd just replace it yourself.

Greysealemperorpenguin · 23/12/2021 20:12

Yes but it’s not cheap to replace, so it’s a bit frustrating that this is what I desperately want / need.

FlamingoDust · 23/12/2021 20:13

It sounds like he may have got you a replacement but wants it to be a surprise

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2021 20:13

I get that but if he's not going to buy it then you'll have to.

Massively annoying though.

I'm going to guess at hair straighteners? Xmas Grin

GinAndTopic · 23/12/2021 20:14

Hard to say really - is he a good diy type? Sounds not from you saying it wouldn't be the same anyway! Would he otherwise get you a nice thoughtful present? If no to both tell him if he doesn't get it you'll get it yourself in the sales.

Greysealemperorpenguin · 23/12/2021 20:15

Weirdly enough Worra that’s what he bought me and had to replace as I have some! Xmas Grin

Flamingo, trust me on this, he hasn’t!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 23/12/2021 20:15

Dyson hairdryer is my guess 🙂

YANBU as long as you can easily afford to replace whatever it is.

stuntbubbles · 23/12/2021 20:22

The fact it’s a replacement for something is a red herring. You’ve asked for something you really want for Christmas, and he for some reason is refusing to get it for you. YANBU

OzziePopPop · 23/12/2021 20:39

Stand mixer / Kenwood / kitchen aid is my guess 😀

Greysealemperorpenguin · 23/12/2021 20:43

No, just a bag Xmas Smile

Helenahandkart · 23/12/2021 21:31

Throw the broken one away so that he can’t fix it.

Pedalpushers · 23/12/2021 21:35

Tbh i'd have a go at mending an expensive bag before buying a new one. Why does he have to do it?

Thirtytimesround · 23/12/2021 21:40

Yanbu. Every yar DH asks me what I want, and then if I tell him he proceeds to tell me why I shouldn’t want that. 🤨

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 23/12/2021 21:45

I learned a long time ago it’s best to just buy the thing you want and wrap it up yourself and tell him that his gift to you is sorted.

SpacePotato · 23/12/2021 21:51

As it's expensive I assume it's leather.
If it's the stitching on the strap or somewhere that's come undone then try taking it to a cobblers. They should be able to re sew it.

godmum56 · 23/12/2021 22:05

I voted yanbu but just go and buy your own

Greysealemperorpenguin · 23/12/2021 22:51

Not everyone can just afford to go out and buy what they want. Especially at Christmas.
