To not wait for PCR Result?

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 06:10

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

SantasOnHisWay Take a look at my post above yours. I am now ill, might up hospitalised as CV because someone took the same attitude as you.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/12/2021 11:09

@ButterflyBitch

Are people getting pcrs for cold symptoms? Or after positive lateral flows? How do you get a pcr when the website still states the three main symptoms as taste/smell, temp and cough? I’ve got a stuffy nose but am just doing a daily lateral flow. Negative so far.
How after all this time do people not know that the test booking website isn't some kind of magical lie detector?

If you want a test you tick a box to say you have symptoms and guess what, no one can tell if you have them or not or one of the other options that gets you to the next page

You don't have to be a genius to know that Grin

Spoken to 119, the person I spoke to earlier was wrong, they don’t have my test results and my test is ‘lost’.

Our best bet is to do another test today, otherwise it’s to wait for the investigation team to contact me in 72 hours. Either way, we need to continue to isolate until 24th which will be 10 days after our symptoms began, unless the new test comes back negative before then.

That's crap. I'm sorry. What a mess it all is.

Hope you're both ok. Have they lost the test of you AND your son?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/12/2021 11:13

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Fingers crossed OP!

And I think a lonely dog walk at midnight in the middle of winter is fine even if you do have Covid!

Not according to some posters on here, the horror I've seen about this type of suggestion is ridiculous. I dont know if they think the virus will hang around until another person walks the same way hours later or sneakily moves to more populated areas or for some reason a mob appears at a location that has never had more than one person at it ever.
Ohdofuckoffcovid · 19/12/2021 11:14

Thise are the symptoms we had with covid. Yabvu

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/12/2021 11:14

You do need to get your results before you mix with people but of course, walk the dog.

user290814356289 · 19/12/2021 11:14

I was stuffy and tired.

Tested positive on lateral flows and on pcr.

PinkWednesdays · 19/12/2021 11:15

I haven’t RTFT and I’m sure others have told you but the symptoms of Omicron are a cold, that’s what makes it so much harder to detect. A friend had a positive PCR 10 days ago, and she said she hasn’t coughed once, and instead has a bad cold - stuffy nose, headache and itchy throat.

WorriedGiraffe · 19/12/2021 11:15

That’s interesting. DS was sick last night but I assumed it was from coughing..

Your son is too poorly to go out today regardless of wether it’s covid or from OP, it’s cold and damp and he’s ill, dragging him out would not have helped!

Sorry about your lost test though, that’s incredibly annoying, especially after waiting so long! Hopefully the repeat results come back quickly. And yes I’d absolutely walk the dog if I were you!

irishfarmer · 19/12/2021 11:16

Take the dog for a walk it's outside and he needs a walk! You said you live rurally so it's not like you will be bumping into people.

But hopefully you get your result soon.

mnaab · 19/12/2021 11:17

I was convinced my test would come back negative but it was positive. All my lateral flows have been negative so you really can't rely on them.

Also agree that even if you don't have covid you could make others ill with whatever big you have who'll then have to isolate until they get their results

mnaab · 19/12/2021 11:17

but I think walking the dog at night is fine

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 19/12/2021 11:17

An that’s crap, sorry OP

Swisscheeseleaves · 19/12/2021 11:18

In which case take the dog out just stay away from other people.

SantasOnHisWay · 19/12/2021 11:20

@Grimbelina that's a real shame, but we have done several ltf tests, if they'd been positive we'd have reluctantly booked a pcr but I'm not ruining christmas for a cold. Nearly 2 years of this now, I think we've done enough. I didn't see anyone for months when I was pregnant earlier in the year, I protected myself when I needed to as you can't rely on others unfortunately.

ChiefStockingStuffer · 19/12/2021 11:24

@Lividlavidacoco

Yeah we’ve been isolating since we came down with stuffy noses and got PCR’s straight away, we’re very careful as a family.

So I’ve just spoken to 119. They have found my test has been registered and there’s a result but they can’t tell me the result until I’ve been waiting 72 hours... I’m on 69 hours Confused

What a joke.

This government is a joke. All boris' friends made oodles of money off covid and quarantine and new rules ... why we all sit around like suckers putting up with it.

Hesma · 19/12/2021 11:31

I’m double backed, had covid in December 2019 and still got it again with no symptoms in October 2021 so yes, YABVU

Hesma · 19/12/2021 11:32

Double vaxxed not backed

user1471447863 · 19/12/2021 11:35

Considering the sheer number of tests being processed at the moment (up to 1.6M per day) then a few (hundred, or thousand?) realistically are going to get lost - it sucks but it is something that is going to happen for some people.
Hopefully you can get get another test booked today and results by tomorrow though.

Fink · 19/12/2021 11:36

I've justed tested positive this morning from a PCR done on Thursday. Lateral flows done every day and all negative. I only have a sore throat and slight runny nose, no other symptoms.

And I'm triple vaxxed, booster a fortnight ago.

So, yes YABU.

Hemingwayscatz · 19/12/2021 11:38

Yeah, I’d just go out. Lateral flow tests are very accurate now, the original ones weren’t as great but the newer ones are almost as accurate as PCR. I’ve also seen how quickly positive results show and it’s immediate so there’s no questioning the result at all. It’s like a pregnancy test when you’re a few days late, the result is very strong and immediate if positive. I used a LFT on my DD before I bothered with a PCR because she had classic cold symptoms so I wanted to double check, I wouldn’t bother with a PCR if the Lf was negative. Anyway her LFT was positive so went for a PCR to confirm.

Your LFT’s would absolutely be positive by now if you had covid, you just have a cold. Go out.

MiddleParking · 19/12/2021 11:39
@MiddleParking I always find it’s the low intelligence people who resort to patronising people. If you suspect you have covid (which op clearly does) the advice is to do a PCR and isolate. That is the official advice.
No, it isn’t. You might wish that it was; that’s not the same thing. Try and book a PCR test for symptoms and see what questions they ask if you’re still struggling to understand.
