The big anti-Covid pass protest tomorrow in London

AIBU or is this really not helpful to have them all gathering in the middle of London? It's the new epicentre of Covid while the virus peaks to previously unseen levels case wise. They're protesting against any new restrictions yet their actions tomorrow will make restrictions more likely.

I accept their right to protest but think it's unhelpful at this juncture, especially a week before Christmas. No doubt people bused in from around the country who'll then spread it back to their own home town.

Not to mention a lot of these people will be unvaccinated which puts the hospitals under more strain if it turns into a superspreader event. These Saturday protest jollies in London are always filled with anti-vax speakers, posters and paraphernalia.

I thought that any protests were banned now anyway ?
I'm sure Piers Corbyn will be there regardless

PestoSugarPlumFairy · 17/12/2021 22:10

People have had enough of this inept government and their make-it-up-as-we-go-along/Do-as-we-say-not-as-we-do rules.
Vaccine passports are a huge assault on our liberties, so good for them for making a stand.

I don't begrudge then making a stand, but it does it have to be in London tomorrow when the place is Covid island at the moment?

Thousands of people - many unvaccinated and anti-mask - what could go wrong?

Twillow · 17/12/2021 22:15

Excuse my ignorance @PestoSugarPlumFairy but I don't really understand how vaccine passports are an assault on our liberties? What is the thinking there? Doesn't it give people more freedom to go out?

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 17/12/2021 22:15

In the scheme of things I doubt a protest will lead to any measurable change in Covid rates. Unless they are indoors in a tiny room.
I’d warrant people doing last minute Christmas shopping will lead to more cases even.

Viviennemary · 17/12/2021 22:16

Idiots. They will make things worse.

XenoBitch · 17/12/2021 22:17

If it was a protest about something else... say maybe a protest about social care failing in detecting the little Arthur case.... would you be posting about it?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 17/12/2021 22:18

Ffs, is there really a planned protest? Where will it be?

mygenericusername · 17/12/2021 22:18

@Twillow

No they do not. I couldn’t care less what passport you have. 3 or 50 jabs mean nothing. You can still transmit and pass on covid.

Stick your meaningless passport and show me a negative test.

Hodl · 17/12/2021 22:21

I'm triple vaxxed but fully support the protests regarding vaccine passports. As a pp has said, surely people Christmas shopping would cause a similar 'risk' level?

Interesting to see if the media cover the protests - I'd hazard a guess that they won't. I wonder why?

Except you don’t have to have one. You can have one or proof of a negative test.

Or alternatively you can condemn people who are ECV to loss their liberties.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 17/12/2021 22:30

@twillow Do you honestly think vaccine passports increase freedoms? How can that be?

Tryingtryingandtrying · 17/12/2021 22:31

@hodl They will cover the foreign ones with disdain and ignore any happening here

If you're unvaccinated you can just take a lateral flow test though, I'm not sure what the huge issue is. No one is excluded as they've made the choice to not get the vaccine, it's just if you have had it you don't have to shove a long cotton bud in your orifices to get into big events.
PestoSugarPlumFairy · 17/12/2021 22:32

You can have a negative LFT test at the moment the same tests that have suddenly become very difficult to get hold of. Funny that.

Slowly boiling the frog...

Joystir59 · 17/12/2021 22:32

Good on them for making a stand. I'm triple vaxxed but hate the idea of a passport.

Spot on. Good for them for protesting.

That's absolutely gross, using the murder of a child in such a flippant way to make a point on Mumsnet. You should be ashamed.

You really want to live in a country where you have to ‘show your papers’ to be able to do anything or go anywhere.
iheartredsquirrels · 17/12/2021 22:36

Protesting in the given climate? what a bunch of morons, who with any brain cell to ever thing this is a good idea ?

They're difficult to get hold of because there aren't enough drivers to distribute them, there are plenty of LFTs, its not a conspiracy also as people have been told to test more frequently in certain situations. Although I'm jabbed so honestly not that arsed if people choose not to get them and can't get in places, boo hoo.
RememberThePenguins · 17/12/2021 22:36

Most of those protesting have probably already had it because they won't have been adhering to the guidelines. Plus it's outdoors, so I doubt it will be a massive superspreading event. Certainly no more than all the pub goers and clubbers tonight.

I'm ambivalent about vaccine passports, but the right to protest is an essential part of our democracy.

iheartredsquirrels · 17/12/2021 22:37

I am not, and wont be ashamed. People pick and choose what a 'good' protest is or is not.
