Sort of inspired by the Snoopy pyjamas thread.

Which clothes to you dislike for kids?
For me it’s slogans 🙈hate them, not keen on tv characters/cartoon characters and hate things like leather jackets

OP posts:
TurnUpTurnip · 16/12/2021 22:28

Little girls shoes with heels, crop tops

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/12/2021 22:29

Sexism. For example Peppa pig on girls PJs, and George Pig on boys PJs.

JustWonderingIfYou · 16/12/2021 22:30

Tv/comic characters- just a bit naff.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/12/2021 22:30

And the short top fashion. Especially as my DD has a long torso so its hard to find stuff to fit.

RussianSpy101 · 16/12/2021 22:38

Baby boys in head to toe tracksuit and trainers
Baby girls in tutus
Slogan tops “daddy’s little angel” “cool like mom”
Leggings for boys
Young girls in inappropriate clothing- crop tops, heeled boots etc.

Mandy63l · 16/12/2021 22:39

Things they can’t “manage” by themselves. Less of an issue now DD is older, but in the past it’s led to frustration, rows, leaving late, tantrums, ending up soggy etc. 😬

Who designs kids clothes with buckles/clasps they can’t fasten/unfasten, or with zips down the back?! 🤯

TheVolturi · 16/12/2021 22:41

Crop tops for little girls as regular t shirts. I just cant.

Toplowlight · 16/12/2021 22:42

Don’t like anything with a cartoon / tv / book character, or any of those awful ‘daddy’s princess’ / ‘will do anything for milk’ type things.

Also not keen on things that look restrictive and uncomfortable and are just for aesthetics - like baby jeans or denim jackets, excessive frills, headbands / bows, shoes on kids who aren’t walking yet etc.

SlashBeef · 16/12/2021 22:42

Neon. I really really hate anything neon.
Baby tops with utterly vulgar slogans like "Daddy only wanted a blowjob".
The combination of velvet with added glitter. It feels disgusting.
Plastic character applique stuff that cracks after a couple of washes and looks awful.

TheGoogleMum · 16/12/2021 22:43

'Sexy' clothes aimed at kids. Why would anyone want that?

Justgivemeamoment · 16/12/2021 22:46

I want more dinosaurs in dresses, both DD are dinosaur mad adnlike dresses but most dinosaur dresses seem to be dinosaurs and unicorn - I mean they don't mind unicorns but what the hell do they have to do with dinosuas !?

Also decent length shorts please...

noblegreenk · 16/12/2021 22:47

Bow headbands and the like on baby girls make me cringe.

Character clothing. DD has some and she loves it but I hate it.

Inappropriate mini grown up outfits on girls. Cropped tops, heels etc. Anything that makes them look like a tiny adult.

I also hate any kind of jewellery on little children.

Restart10 · 16/12/2021 22:49

When people dress the kids in designet brands with huge slogans across the front. Tacky.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 16/12/2021 22:53

Those baby vests that are vest on the top and have a tutu on the bottom. Clothes that say 'mummy's angel' 'daddy's princess' and the rest.

takealettermsjones · 16/12/2021 22:59

Just the general fact that "girls'" clothes are often too small/tight, frilly, pink, and impractical. I have bought a lot of my toddler DD's clothes from the "boys'" section because of ease of movement, extra fabric etc. I don't understand why toddler clothes are segregated by sex at all.

MegsHollyJolly · 16/12/2021 23:00

Slogans - especially if reinforcing gender roles (girls - smile, be kind, always happy and boys - limitless, explore, wild child etc)

Sexualised clothing for toddlers/children (this overlaps with slogans too).
Cropped tshirts for toddlers and young girls, fake leather fitted items on toddlers.

All dark clothing for boys - dark navy, dark green, dark red, black. Boys can wear any colour but the options are so limited.

Iamnotminterested · 16/12/2021 23:00

Flat caps on baby boys and toddlers.

BlowDryRat · 16/12/2021 23:01

Those short t-shirts.
Slogans, especially anything about 'Be kind'. F off.

RubyJam · 16/12/2021 23:02

Dislike:

All Character clothing

Little toddlers in full tracksuits and mini air max

Also Don’t really like the trend for the little baby blue old fashioned kids clothing and baby pink for girls , like the baby blue sailor type dungarees etc and girls in little pink ruffle pea coats and over knee socks with bows etc. it never looks practical and just looks dated

AmyandPhilipfan · 16/12/2021 23:08

Clothes that are vastly different sizes in the boys section than the girls, for the same age - little girls t shirts are often more fitted and their shorts are tiny! My tall 4 year old was pretty much exclusively in shorts from the boys sections of shops this summer.

I don’t mind kids characters on clothes but I hate it if a cartoon has boy and girl characters but only the girl ones are on clothes in the girls section and only the boy ones in the boys section. My daughter’s favourite Paw Patrol pup is a boy but clothes manufacturers assume she’ll like the girls best.

Baby clothes with ‘pretty like mummy’ or the equivalent on - I always felt if I dressed my daughter in something like that people would look at me and think, ‘you’re not pretty!’

The fact that younger children’s clothes ranges often stop at age 6 and go from pretty dresses with cute animal pictures on in the younger range to crop tops and hot pants in the older range. My daughter is 4 but in age 6-7 and I want to still be able to dress her in clothes that are designed for little children, not teenagers going out clubbing.

Bakingwithmyboys · 16/12/2021 23:09

The fact that once boys hit 6 it's hard to get much without fortnite/Minecraft/Xbox or gruesome dinosaurs plastered all over it. (It's ok if they are into that stuff but some aren't). I. Asda I couldn't even get a long sleeved top above the age of 6.

The fact there is little choice for boys compared to girls.

That p patrol would never put the girl pups on the boys clothes and vice versa.

Trousers without adjustable waists - DS1 is so skinny!

School jumpers with really narrow necks. (I had to enlarge the neck for DS2).

That I am yet to find a pair of trousers that survive more than a few months before going at the knees!

Morrisons have a good range. My daughter has a really cute dress with a dinosaur pattern (came with a a stegosaurus handbag too Hmm)
Tigersteakpie · 16/12/2021 23:14

I really hate the boring beige crap from Zara. I like the individual bits but people are obsessed with their toddlers wearing pristine white/beige/grey matching things and they just don't look like kids. I don't personally like that trend.

I don't like any Disney clothing either but I'm not sure why as I have no issue with Disney and I don't mind some character clothing, my kids have a few peppa/Minecraft/pokemon bits

Hospedia · 16/12/2021 23:14

I hate that the Young Girls section is for ages 1-8 (give or take a year depending on shop) and the Older Girls section is for age 9-15 (again give or take a year) but that all the clothes in the Older Girls section are for the upper end of that age range. 15yo Girls tend to dress very differently to 9yo ones and I don't want to put my 10yo in clothes aimed at 14-15 year olds.

Slogans on girls clothes along the lines of "be kind" or "keep smiling" or "spread joy" or some other insipid bollocks. Also slogans on boys clothes that may as well say "fuck shit up cos you're a boy, fuck yeah".

Sexualised clothing. For example I don't have an issue with bikinis on little girls, I find them easier for younger DD as she can go to the loo without taking the whole thing off and she finds it easier to put it on and off herself, but so long as they're little girl bikinis - a vest style top, shorts or full briefs style bottoms, that sort of thing, DD has one that comes with a rash vest to go over the top of the whole thing for when she's wearing it outdoors. Little girl bikinis don't need bra-style tops, strings, or tiny briefs/tops.

Dark coloured coats for children and teens of both sexes. It should be a requirement that coats for children must have reflective patches on them as part of the manufacturing process, especially very dark coloured ones that mean your child is impossible to see in the winter when it's getting dark and they're crossing roads.

They used to be everywhere a few years ago - especially Next and Boden. I remember buying a Dino dress for my friend's DD. I'm surprised if they're not around now. I know there are plenty of the sequin dinosaur tops around - try H&M for those.
