Sort of inspired by the Snoopy pyjamas thread.

Which clothes to you dislike for kids?
For me it’s slogans 🙈hate them, not keen on tv characters/cartoon characters and hate things like leather jackets

Big bows in hair, anything with their names on them, tatty stuff with characters or gaming stuff on them.

Wearing trainers, flip flops, or slides instead of properly fitted closed and waterproof shoes. Trainers are only for actual athletics.
Girls in leggings without a tunic or dress over. They are far too revealing.

Very short skirts for girls over 5. They can’t wear those for work, so why wear them in school.
The lack of matching bloomers for dresses or to be worn with school uniforms. Bike shorts are unattractive and unhealthy.
What happened to slips for girls? Nothing hangs right without one.

zukiecat · 19/12/2021 11:09

Little girls dressed in black or anything animal/leopard print.

Babies and children in leggings.

Little girls dressed in grown up clothing.

I'm old fashioned and I like to see little girls in pretty dresses.

3scape · 19/12/2021 11:25

I don't do restrictive shoes, particularly so called "fitted" shoes that do not allow for the natural spread of a foot during activity. Heavy shoes also prevent flexibility in the feet and natural walk ing causing no end of skeletal problems.

Big brand logos (on children or adults) basically it looks as though you're working for them, and tacky as blu.
Slogans.

Frilly party nonsense clothes and tight suit jackets on boys - screams of very fussy and high maintenance parent.

RavenclawsRoar · 19/12/2021 11:27

Those godawful sexualised slogans like "lock up your daughters" and "future heartbreaker". Even more disconcerting is the ones that refer to the parents' sex life- I saw a newborn vest the other day with "all mummy wanted was a back rub..." and another that said something along the lines of "daddy is jealous because I get unlimited boob access" (or something like that, can't remember the exact wording). Gross.

I don't know what age you're talking about here but I'm not sure how a toddler/young child in leggings is "too revealing"? What exactly are they revealing? Confused

Another thing I hate: hoodies for babies. I could not find a non-hooded jumper or cardigan for my baby in winter for love nor money. The hoods are fine for outdoors, but annoying for indoors - hood up inside is bad idea for temp regulation, and hood down for a baby just means it digs into their back or the back of their neck. Used to annoy me no end! Eventually asked a lovely knitter I know to make me some cardis.

What’s wrong with leggings?

They’re great for crawling babies (no runching or restrictive fabric), practical for preschoolers (easy to put snowsuits or puddlesuit over), ideal for softplay or trampoline parks.

My son has relaxed fit fur-lined thermal leggings for winter (he’s 6). They fit into snow boots and wellies nicely. Better than jeans or joggers.

Agree see through leggings look a bit odd unless worn with a long top/tunic!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/12/2021 12:09

High healed boots or cropped tops for children (aimed at girls but I wouldn’t put them on boys either!)
Stupid slogans like be kind
Slogans of any kind on kids who are too young to read
Flimsy not warm clothing generally

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/12/2021 12:10

I don’t see anything wrong with leggings for either sex either!

Scraggythang · 21/12/2021 12:15

The fact that all the thick practical tracksuits in the winter are marketing to boys and all the stuff marketed to girls is flimsy fluffy jumpers and thin leggings.

I don’t care about buying boys stuff for my kid, I’m not particularly fussed about gendered clothing. But why does marketing think only boys need to be warm?

user33323 · 21/12/2021 15:45

I get my 5 year old son leggings for winter because I can easily put fleece lined waterproof dungarees on over the top when we go out. He also has cords/joggers/chinos but they aren't practical for being outdoors, and we do outdoor days out more than indoor. Leggings are now widely available in boys aisles in supermarkets now, but they used to be harder to find.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 22/12/2021 16:57

I prefer leggings for my son too rather than stiff jeans, or worse the skinny leg ones. Lindex do some fun funky prints for boys/unisex.

irene88 · 22/12/2021 17:24

Ballet flats on little girls - how are they supoosed to run around? Also jeans and grown-up styles on kids. Kids are kids - dress them as such!

Is this actually real? What's a child/baby/toddler trying to reveal? Sorry but if you actually think like that it's quite concerning.
Swonderful · 22/12/2021 23:21

Anything white or cream (gets dirty in 5 minutes). Playsuits with a button at the back.

I let them mostly choose apart from that.

Now I know most people don't like advertising on these forums. But I was trying to do some research and came upon this thread.

If you want kid t-shirts that actually have well thought out designs and are going to last then try my store:

shooshaustralia.com.au/

I'm a stay at home dad that has created this while looking after his little boy!
