Sort of inspired by the Snoopy pyjamas thread.

Which clothes to you dislike for kids?
For me it’s slogans 🙈hate them, not keen on tv characters/cartoon characters and hate things like leather jackets

@Mackmama @IToldYouIWasFreaky at my younger DC school (ages nursery to year 4/age 9) the uniform is optional, it's entirely up to the children what they wear so long as it's comfortable and practical and there are no consequences for not wearing 'correct' uniform. Their school ethos is "joy in education" and dressing a specific way does not make you learn any better, they'd rather the children were at ease than fussing over an item of clothing they find uncomfortable. The majority of the kids choose to wear the school sweatshirt or cardigan and they they tend to all wear some variation on joggers or leggings, some wear school trousers or skirts, most wear a white tshirt rather than a polo shirt. School give advance notice of things like school photo day so you can put them in smart clothes if you want and it makes things so much easier.

@Pumperthepumper Duns! It's all so hideous. The dead fish in the pond, cheese sandwiches, demented looking pigs and rotten apple cores, then the migraine inducing florals! How some of these things get from design to production is beyond me.

TheCreamCaker · 17/12/2021 10:19

Cropped t-shirts and jumpers. Who the hell wants to dress their kids in those, particularly when it's winter?!

Hospedia · 17/12/2021 10:33

I have to admit cropped hoodie come in handy for DC who wears them during dance warm ups, normal length ones are too bulky apparently (according to DC).

Mackmama · 17/12/2021 11:14

@Hospedia that sounds like a great idea. To be fair, I don’t think my children’s school is particularly uptight on uniform, so I might just try sending them in in joggers in the new year if they want to and see if anyone says anything.

ShrinkingViolet9 · 17/12/2021 11:15

Headbands on babies
Ear piercings
Necklaces/beads on babies
"Pram shoes"
Slogans, especially sexualised ones
Babies in trainers, denim jeans or jean jackets

Many years ago, I saw a baby in a baby changing room dressed up to the nines, like a 1950s dolly, in white frilly dress, frilly socks, lacy cardigan, frilly pants over the nappy and "pram shoes". The poor child had the worst nappy rash I'd ever seen. Her mum referred to her affectionately as "Miss Shitty Knickers".

Comedycook · 17/12/2021 11:17

Hate the cropped hoodies...I went shopping for my 11 year old DD yesterday and saw loads of them. Imo, it's just a way for manufacturers to save money on material. Horrible things. I don't mind character clothing...it's makes them happy. I just hate anything which looks uncomfortable... itchy material, too many fastenings etc.

ivfbabymomma1 · 17/12/2021 11:18

Just to echo everyone else .. character clothes!!!!

cheapskatemum · 17/12/2021 11:19

Dull ditchwater colours for boys

5keletor · 17/12/2021 11:21

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Sexism. For example Peppa pig on girls PJs, and George Pig on boys PJs.
Yes! My son loves Peppa Pig and there are so many Peppa coats, hats, gloves, etc. in the girls' section where we shop, and maybe a George t-shirt and hat for boys. I would buy him the Peppa clothes anyway, but they always make them very frilly or add details that make them very obviously meant for girls. 😔
Echobelly · 17/12/2021 11:24

Giant bows on baby girls - I remember someone describing them as making babies 'look like hyperactive eggs' Grin

Girls' school shoes that are basically ballerina flats with a little strap. Some girls need to walk to school in all weathers, y'know. DD had to live in 'boy' shoes or the one 'closed' start rite style.

Like @Tigersteakpie I'm not big on high fashion for kids - I mean, matching beige ribbed crop top and leggings for 6yos Zara? No thanks.

Shops that only sell jeans or jogging bottoms for boys, and everything is grey or navy.

LittleGwyneth · 17/12/2021 11:25

Bikini tops for little girls. There's nothing to hide, there is no reason they can't just wear bottoms (as is common in France and Spain).

Comedy clothing 'Just Done Nine Months Inside' style.

Characters and slogans.

Mixed prints & clashing colours.

Tight headbands on babies. IT IS A BABY IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE DECORATED WITH SOMETHING UNCOMFORTABLE.

Echobelly · 17/12/2021 11:30

I don't know why some people feel this desperation to say THIS IS A BABY GIRL YES I KNOW SHE'S BALD BUT WE'LL BUT A HUGE BOW ON HER AND A FRILLY DRESS IN ALL WEATHERS AND PINK FRILLY BUGGY AND COVER. Honestly, love, your baby does not care what gender people think she is. Her self esteem will survive being called a boy.

CactusLemonSpice · 17/12/2021 11:32

Headbands for babies, might be being paranoid but surely they are a strangulation risk!

Tops with words of phrases. Lots of lovely patterned t shirts I'd otherwise like are ruined by these!

CactusLemonSpice · 17/12/2021 11:33

Also second ballerina flats. Little ones seem to love them and want to wear them everywhere, but they're not practical or supportive shoes!

LittleMysSister · 17/12/2021 11:39

All the 'be kind' etc stuff.

SalmonEile · 17/12/2021 11:45

Yep just came on to say “be kind” and “be you “ and all this crap,
It’s hard enough to find a decent hoodie or top that isn’t cropped and then it has some twee slogan on it

AliveAndSleeping · 17/12/2021 11:46

Anything sexualised and anything that's right or seems uncomfortable.

I don't hate it but I don't get having pink clothes (with hearts, flowers, mermaids, etc) for girls and blue clothes (with tractors, dinosaurs, etc) for boys. Before DD I was born I bought lots of blue baby clothes because clothes because I thought I'd go crazy if I just saw pink all the time. Whenever I dressed her in blue every stranger we met thought she is a boy, which is perfectly fine (I can't tell babies apart no matter what they wear. They all look like little master Yodas to me) but whenever the stranger then realised that she's a girl they felt very apologetic and embarrassed, which wasn't necessary.

When a midwife came to visit a few days after Ds was born I'd put him in an old pink Bodysuit from DD with flowers and with spaghetti straps. It was in a heatwave and I didn't have anything else that was sleeveless. When I told the midwife that he's a a boy she got quite annoyed with me. I apologized and explained the situation which in retrospect I think I didn't need to do. He was dressed in something clean and temperature appropriate. Surely the design is up to me? Anyway I find the whole thing very strange.

AliveAndSleeping · 17/12/2021 11:50

Sorry about the typos. I meant I don't like tight and uncomfortable clothesXmas Blush

MoonCowbag · 17/12/2021 11:52

Those pram shoes for babies that look like high heels. Envy (not envy)

And generally anything wildly gendered or with horrible slogans.

MondayYogurt · 17/12/2021 11:54

@Jacaranda75

My friend in the US made a fortune a few years ago selling 'stick on bows for bald baby girls'. I won't tell you what she spent the money on.
Please say Oatly shares.
MelonTits · 17/12/2021 11:55

@Srettel

Dates on baby clothes e.g. "Born in 2021" which means they've been designed to be thrown away and not passed down to another baby.

I saw a child on FB wearing pyjamas which said "when I wake up I will be 2." Presumably designed to be worn once.

As long as you’re savvy with re-using, this can be OK - our Happy First Father’s Day baby vest has been round at least 4 families
Rainbowdrops2021 · 17/12/2021 11:55

Crop tops, slogans, mini/Micky mouse, high shoes for little girls and those matching top and leggings sets that have the brand name around the elasticated part. Not that I’m fussy or anything 😂.

Rainbowdrops2021 · 17/12/2021 11:57

Oh yeah and headbands for baby girls and jeans on babies too.

Avarua · 17/12/2021 11:59

The baby dressed like a 1950s dolly, in white frilly dress, frilly socks, lacy cardigan...
This is how my sister dresses her girls. They're 8 and 6.
And she tells them off if they get dirty .
Crazy
