Worst kids clothing

Sort of inspired by the Snoopy pyjamas thread.

Which clothes to you dislike for kids?
For me it’s slogans 🙈hate them, not keen on tv characters/cartoon characters and hate things like leather jackets

OP posts:

Ridiculous baby outfits - tutus on vests etc
Supermarket ranges for boys coming out of the toddler years being almost exclusively sludge coloured or covered in Minecraft logos.
Baby headbands.
The amount of unicorn covered clothing for girls. Both my kids want bright colours and rainbows.
Cutesey slogans
Sexy slogans
Well, slogans in general while we're at it.
Girls clothes age 10+ suddenly becoming mini clubbing outfits. I want to shop for my 11 year old niece who is still very much a little girl.
Friends logos and references. They have no idea what it is.
Those outfits with braces on casual trousers or shorts. I can't stop humming "consider yourself" in my head when I see them Blush
The sleek grey/beige look.

Rubyupbeat · 17/12/2021 00:35

On babies-
Football kits
Suits
Anything with a collar, they have no necks!
Jean's etcs

Kids in general, grown up clothing.

baffledcoconut · 17/12/2021 01:03

Insipid colours. Why at age 4 do kids have to move into insipid colours?

Alpenguin · 17/12/2021 03:11

Branding from film, tv, computer games all do my head in. Stereotypes for boys and girls also do my head in.

My first hooker clothing for any girl over the age of 6 or 7 with no child like options without paying over the odds boden type prices.

That boys only get navy blue, grey or camouflage clothing and rarely lovely bright colours.

Sexist slogans.

bushtailadventures · 17/12/2021 04:36

Crop T-shirts for girls, trying to find normal length t-shirts for a tall 6yr old was near impossible in the summer.

Designer labels which mean kids being told not to get dirty/move/have fun, what's the point in that?

Not clothes, but earrings on small children, I worry about them being ripped out when they're playing

HoseMeDownWithHolyWater · 17/12/2021 05:50

A normal looking coat or cardigan with pointless fucking ears on the hood. Why does everything seem to have ears?!

sayanythingelse · 17/12/2021 05:56

Tacky slogans. "Be kind" or "follow your dreams" and such. Bleurgh.

Anything Disney. Especially Minnie Mouse.

Character clothing being aimed mostly at boys. DD loves Paw Patrol but there's very little to be found in the girls section (and if there is, it only has Skye and Everest on and is bright pink). She has a couple of grey tops with all of the dogs on that pass as unisex but they're from the boys section.

Hellolittlestar · 17/12/2021 06:33

^A normal looking coat or cardigan with pointless fucking ears on the hood. Why does everything seem to have ears?!^

My daughter had a coat with rabbits ears when she was 18 months-2 years and it meant she loved wearing it. In fact 90% of her wardrobe had an animal to make getting dressed easier.

I don’t like kids dressed to look like mini adults.
It’s not easy to find warm jumpers for girls.
That toddler tshirts for girls almost never have buttons to make the head opening bigger whereas the same shop would offer boys much comfier option that doesn’t rip their heads off.

HumbugWhale · 17/12/2021 06:36

I agree with everything so far and would add tops with a fiddly button at the neck/shoulder that is hard to fasten/fasten and gets stuck in their hair.
Tops with poppers at the neck or should however are fantastic and make dressing toddlers much easier!

LaBellina · 17/12/2021 06:42

Disney themed clothes though I did buy some tasteful things from Uniqlo for DS like a long sleeved black tshirt with just a small embroidered Dalmatian on it.

Track suits

Huge logos

Huge creepy prints like skulls etc on boys clothes

RussianSpy101 · 17/12/2021 07:03

Thought of another one! Camo print.
Not for me.

Leopard print anything on a baby / toddler girl. Seems to be in at the moment.

Srettel · 17/12/2021 07:06

Dates on baby clothes e.g. "Born in 2021" which means they've been designed to be thrown away and not passed down to another baby.

I saw a child on FB wearing pyjamas which said "when I wake up I will be 2." Presumably designed to be worn once.

SwanShaped · 17/12/2021 07:07

Slogans. Dinosaurs and unicorns. Frilly T-shirt sleeves for girls coz they ruckle up under a jumper. And babygrows with the buttons/poppers down the back. Who the fuck invented them?? Someone who has never dressed a baby probably. Nightmare to use and must be really uncomfortable for the baby to lie on.

Nobranothanks · 17/12/2021 07:08

Like many others, I despise cropped tops, cropped jumpers, hot pants, teeny skirts and heels on shoes for little girls. Why anyone would think that was OK I don't know!

Last summer it was nigh on impossible to get normal basic clothes for my daughter in many shops. Some of them made my blood boil!

Jacaranda75 · 17/12/2021 07:09

My friend in the US made a fortune a few years ago selling 'stick on bows for bald baby girls'. I won't tell you what she spent the money on.

sofakingcool · 17/12/2021 07:15

I'm pretty opinionated (internally!) about children's clothes. I really don't like slogans, character wear (especially cheap stuff), children in clothes that are too small - hot pants on girls

I work with very young children and can't stand babies in jeans. I'm fed up of changing children's clothing when they haven't made it to the potty/toilet in time to undo a ridiculous outfit - not nice for me, and particularly not nice for the child Sad

Going back to older children, it took me ages to accept that my children had their own tastes and wants. Both now like branded clothes, and I don't like them either... Grin

Gosh I'm miserable!!

chocolateicecream · 17/12/2021 07:16

Cropped jumpers. Clothes with slogans slapped across them. My children find this annoying too.
Sexualised children’s clothes.

ronswansonstache · 17/12/2021 07:19

Tiny baby shoes - like DMs or Converse in newborn sizes. They'll literally never get worn and are such a waste of money and resources! I often see them on the local FB marketplace to be sold on to yet another baby who won't wear them!

AlfieandAnnieRose · 17/12/2021 07:25

Babies in jeans. I’ve seen pictures of newborns in jeans (ones with a button), and it just looks so uncomfortable.
Skinny jeans on young children. Don’t know how they can run and move easily. Trainers and timberlands on babies and toddlers, these are really bad for their feet.

Also agree with the other comments- tracksuits, slogans and character clothing eg paw patrol.

And clothing for children that have PlayStation on it!

Sirzy · 17/12/2021 07:28

Tutus/headbands etc on baby clothes.

Mini adult clothes for young girls.

Inappropriate slogans.

RussianSpy101 · 17/12/2021 07:28

@Srettel ah I’ve bought my youngest these for both his 1st and 2nd birthdays.

He didn’t only wear them once though. His birthday was August but he is still 2 every morning he wakes up until next August 😂

Popcornriver · 17/12/2021 07:33

As others said the crop tops for girls. I wanted a couple of nice, warm jumpers for my DD. At least half of them weren't full length. I mean it's freezing! Why would you want your chest warm and your stomach cold? If I bought her one would I have to put a t-shirt under it so she's not cold? I just understand!

Mammyofasuperbaby · 17/12/2021 07:37

Rows and rows and rows of girls clothes in shops and maybe a full row for boys if you are lucky.
I have 2 boys and it's a nightmare dressing them, especially as I don't do (much) character clothing and they suit bright/rich colours, not dowdy colours.
This also applies to prem clothing too, there is always one boys set, one nuteral and two girls sets. Why do girls get more?

lollipoprainbow · 17/12/2021 07:38

I missed the snoopy pyjamas thread ! What's wrong with them??

Brieandcamembert · 17/12/2021 07:40

Children in tracksuits. It's so scruffy.
