To think we should move Christmas to a different month?

Christmas and all it’s super-spreading events seems to come smack-bang in the middle of Covid and flu season.

Since covid and it’s ever-changing variants appear to be here for good would it not make sense to rearrange Christmas dates?

Perhaps March or April instead.

You’ve got to be kidding Confused

Seriously, get a grip!

Saucery · 16/12/2021 17:49

Ummmm, no.
Whether you celebrate it as a Christian festival or as a break in the long, dark winter for lights and festivities it sort of has to be in December.

Cocomarine · 16/12/2021 17:49

🤣

SunshineCake1 · 16/12/2021 17:49

Don't be ridiculous Hmm.

sickandtiredzzz · 16/12/2021 17:50

🤣🤣

Wilma55 · 16/12/2021 17:51

Move to Australia?

Theyellowflamingo · 16/12/2021 17:51

If a covid peak and lockdown happened at Christmas every year in perpetuity I’d agree with you, though I wouldn’t move it to Easter time.

Back in the real world though it’s not going to happen. People can always choose to have big family occasions at another point in the year!

Ducksurprise · 16/12/2021 17:51

I'm a Christian but grew up in Oz, I still can't get to grips with a cold Christmas, so yes I agree but vote for June.

Northernsoullover · 16/12/2021 17:51

Hell no, imagine the dark miserable months without a little celebration in the middle of it..

EasterIssland · 16/12/2021 17:52

Yes I think it’s a good idea. I’ll take Maria to keep baby Jesus in for a few more weeks to suit covid

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/12/2021 17:52

Lol

Allandria · 16/12/2021 17:53

Why does it HAVE to be in December?

If it’s going to aggravate the situation with flu and covid every year with parties, work dos, big family gatherings and so on then it makes it perfect sense to change the date to a few months later. People would get used to it.

Instead of making everyone change for you, why not move to the southern hemisphere? Christmas is in the summer there. Problem solved 😊

LittleBabyCheeses · 16/12/2021 17:57

The whole origins of Christmas were a mid winter festival to break up the cold, miserable, bleak season.
Winter without Christmas would be shit.
Of course you can choose to celebrate it whenever you like.

inferiorCatSlave · 16/12/2021 17:57

Since pre-history times midwinter in northern hemisphere has had some kind of celebration. It's always around/near shortest day of the year so 21/22 December.

I suppose one of the reasons stored food starting to spoil no longer applies - but do we really want to risk the sun not coming up.

JustLyra · 16/12/2021 17:57

I'm curious - any other religious festivals you think should change their dates to suit?

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 17:58

the religious aspect makes it obvious that it cannot be moved

This.

Allandria · 16/12/2021 18:01

It’s not to ‘suit me’ but for the covid situation. If we’re going to take it seriously then it really does make perfect sense to change the month Christmas falls. It will make the yearly winter flu and covid situation way better.

Perhaps March or April instead.

There is already a religious festival then - Easter. Why not make more of that?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 16/12/2021 18:01

Let’s have two then! It keeps everyone happy that way

LittleBabyCheeses · 16/12/2021 18:01

When we’ve had awful flu seasons in the past were you calling to move Christmas?
jerometheturnipking · 16/12/2021 18:02

Why does it HAVE to be in December?

For Christmas? Specifically the festival called CHRISTmas?

Allandria · 16/12/2021 18:03

I get that Christmas is one of the uplifting aspects of wintertime and I love it but unfortunately it just doesn’t combine well with flu-covid season at all. Look at what happened after last Christmas when people were allowed to mix. It’s just a recipe for disaster every year now, the festival and the allocated time of year just aren’t compatible. I agree it’s a massive shame but it’s just the way it is.

Cos Easter 2020 and Easter 2021 were such successes!
