To think we should move Christmas to a different month?

Christmas and all it’s super-spreading events seems to come smack-bang in the middle of Covid and flu season.

Since covid and it’s ever-changing variants appear to be here for good would it not make sense to rearrange Christmas dates?

Perhaps March or April instead.

As an addition not a replacement!

Hemingwayscatz · 16/12/2021 18:30

Or we can all just see our families and do whatever the fuck we want to do with our own lives, perhaps?

santabetterwashhishands · 16/12/2021 18:30

Yep July then it wouldn't cause me to be bankrupt from all the school events 😂

LittleRoundRobin · 16/12/2021 18:30

@Helpstopthepain

Christmas jumpers would be a thing of the past, it will be too warm to roast chestnuts on an open fire, my snowflake decorations would look ridiculous, Father Christmas would need a whole new summer wardrobe. It won’t work.

Maybe we could trick covid and pretend we aren’t celebrating?

100% this.
LuckyAmy1986 · 16/12/2021 18:32

@GutsInMay what makes you think
It was a rhetorical question?

BackInBlackAgain · 16/12/2021 18:32

What about New Year’s Eve / day, are we moving that too due to all the parties people have?

weegiemum · 16/12/2021 18:34

Yes let's change a celebration more than 1500 years old because of 2 years of COVID. Hmm

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 18:34

its a stupid idea op

the school calendar would have to change to accomadate it as well

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 18:36

and it would fall in the middle of sorting events...wimbledon,world cup etc

LittleRoundRobin · 16/12/2021 18:36

@Allandria

March is still pretty chilly.

Can you honestly say that if it had a positive impact on covid numbers and made the situation better overall every year that you wouldn’t support moving Christmas just a couple of months? I’m not seeing any compelling arguments on this thread to keep it where it is.

I get it seems like a radical concept, but if you really think about it it makes sense!

March is still pretty chilly? So no good?

Well so is April. I have been to 3 April weddings in the past 15 years, and it's been really cold outside. AND it's Easter too. (Usually.)

June is a month where we tend to get quite a lot of rain.

July is too hot, so is August. September is back to school and Harvest Festival, October is Halloween and cold weather/early dark nights. November will be too wintry. December, January, and February are no good as they're too cold.

So we have May.

So would May suit you? Let me know and I will have a word with God, Jesus, The Prime Minister, The President of America, The Pope, and Santa.

Have they rearranged April fools day?
JSL52 · 16/12/2021 18:38

@Allandria

Why does it HAVE to be in December?

If it’s going to aggravate the situation with flu and covid every year with parties, work dos, big family gatherings and so on then it makes it perfect sense to change the date to a few months later. People would get used to it.

Because it's to celebrate the birth of Jesus (25/12) according to Christians. I'm not a Christian btw.
ChristmasFluff · 16/12/2021 18:38

There have been diseases that kill vulnerable people since time immemorial. We now are taking precautions to protect those people - never happoened in the past.

But OP, you are saying all that is pointless, and let's just give up all that is holy (whatever faith you are) because of a virus that will last for a batsqueak of time in the light of eternity.

Aye, crack on

Purplespup16 · 16/12/2021 18:39

Christmas or any other festival held in December isn’t the issue.

The issue is Winter in general. It’s cold and dark early. So that means more people inside generally. Windows and doors are closed to keep warmth in. People have to gather in doors regardless if they celebrate a festival or not.

In the warmer months think about how often you’re outside or you have your home/work windows open. It’s light much later into the evening so people gather outside much more.

Moving Christmas won’t make much difference if any to these rates. Sorry.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 18:39

2 bank holidays already in may.....may is full

Five pages in, we’ve thought about it, and it doesn’t make sense…
MyShinyThing · 16/12/2021 18:39

I was going to ask about New Years Eve as well but someone beat me to it.

Shall we just extend this year by a few months and then start again in April?

Queenoftheashes · 16/12/2021 18:40

This thread is hilarious. Such a flaying you’re getting and so many people who think Jesus was born on 25 December 😂
I think it’s a good idea. A far better idea than having a World Cup in fucking Qatar in fucking November.

Theunamedcat · 16/12/2021 18:40

Rumour has it Jesus was born in March anyway so I don't see the issue

Just celebrate Yule instead ie the real winter festival

MiniCooperLover · 16/12/2021 18:42

Hilarious OP ... and incredibly goady to any Christians. Why not move it for covid reasons? Because Christianity has been around a lot bloody longer than covid and hopefully always will be.

Hopefully it's just a dumb journalist after a lazy story .. can't believe any normal people think like that.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/12/2021 18:42

🤣 doing a great job OP of ignoring anything to do with the religious aspect.

Valaris · 16/12/2021 18:43

I wish Xmas was end of Jan. There's more chance of it snowing on Xmas day. AND Jan is such a shit month. Would be nice to only have 4 weeks of winter left after Xmas until spring rather than the endless drab, grey days with simmer so far away!

Allandria · 16/12/2021 18:43

Numerous posters have pointed out Jesus was not born on December 25th

Theunamedcat · 16/12/2021 18:44

@DockOTheBay

Why does it HAVE to be in December? Because that's when it is. It already exists and has been in December for hundreds of years.
2000 years technically

Because you know the calender changed....
