To think we should move Christmas to a different month?

Christmas and all it’s super-spreading events seems to come smack-bang in the middle of Covid and flu season.

Since covid and it’s ever-changing variants appear to be here for good would it not make sense to rearrange Christmas dates?

Perhaps March or April instead.

LittleRoundRobin · 16/12/2021 18:44

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

OH NO! Worrawegunnadonow? Shock
Hushslush · 16/12/2021 18:45

Would that not just mean that march/April becomes the new December. So it won't be Any different to actual December. Imagine telling children they got to wait another 3/4 months for xmasHmm

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 18:45

@Allandria

Numerous posters have pointed out Jesus was not born on December 25th
and numerous posters have pointed out it is a rubbish idea.....no compelling reason to move it..
Theremoresefulday · 16/12/2021 18:46

Not another thread.

Wise up.

Opus17 · 16/12/2021 18:46

Why does it has to be December?
Cause it's Jesus' birthday...

We can't just move birthdays to suit us...

Boood · 16/12/2021 18:48

If this isn’t a windup, the idea of moving a tradition going back thousands of years to accommodate covid and protect the NHS has to be the most joyless and defeatist suggestion I’ve heard, at the end of two years when joylessness and defeatism reached new heights. Well done, OP!

gofg · 16/12/2021 18:48

You do realise that Christmas is celebrated in many parts of the world, all at the same time, not just in the UK?

Those of us who already celebrate Christmas in summer are quite happy thank you, and we don't want to move it.

Candyss · 16/12/2021 18:49

@Queenoftheashes

This thread is hilarious. Such a flaying you’re getting and so many people who think Jesus was born on 25 December 😂 I think it’s a good idea. A far better idea than having a World Cup in fucking Qatar in fucking November.
it's not a good idea though. what about new years eve?
kazzer2867 · 16/12/2021 18:49

@tiredanddangerous

You do know why Christmas is on the 25th December don't you?
This. Utterly ridiculous post.
LittleRoundRobin · 16/12/2021 18:49

@Allandria

@Allandria

Nobody knows WHEN he was born, not really. It's all guesses/assumptions. Even if he was born in June, Christmas is STILL December, and isn't going to change. Having it in Spring is batshit for all the reasons people have listed.

You have asked a question 'should we move Christmas to another month?' The VAST majority have said NO - and that YABU, and yet you are refusing to accept the majority's answers and opinions.

You don't seem to want to accept that most people think YABU. Why? Are you that arrogant, and that full of yourself that you assume everyone who disagrees with you is wrong?

crazyjinglist · 16/12/2021 18:50

I don't give a monkey's when Jesus was actually born (I'man atheist). Obviously we have no idea whether it was 25th December or whatever other date, and have no reliable way of knowing. It is a winter festival, and has been a winter festival since before it was turned into a Christian festival. And that's what it will continue to be.

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/12/2021 18:50

Lol but no

100% this! ^
BendicksBittermints4Breakfast · 16/12/2021 18:52

Very confusing if it gets moved to a date near Easter! As a child I could never understand that Jesus was born in December yet was a grown man about 3 or 4 months later, being crucified.

Everybody knows Jesus wasn’t born on the 25th.🙄🙄

It’s still a monumentally stupid idea, on so many levels.

(10/10 for effort though, since I don’t believe that anyone would seriously advocate doing this)

Chishnfips · 16/12/2021 18:53

Well if you celebrate Christmas as Jesus' birthday then you could change it to June as that is when some scholars have argued it actually was. But if you're celebrating Christmas because its the midwinter festival you could move the earth's axis so its winter some other time but that wouldn't really solve the whole 'flu season thing.

LittleBabyCheeses · 16/12/2021 18:53

I’m not seeing any compelling arguments on this thread to keep it where it is

And I’m not seeing any compelling arguments to move it.

Veeveeoxox · 16/12/2021 18:53

Thank god no one in real life thinks like this.

I see it as the complete opposite of being defeatist- actually learning to ‘live with covid’ and working out what gives the best chance of us enjoying Christmas celebrations without creating immeasurable issues with covid, learning how to literally work around the virus.

You'd upset the baby Jesus and mess up Santa's schedule.

Benjispruce5 · 16/12/2021 18:55

Seriously OP you do know that December isn’t cold everywhere?

Galacticat · 16/12/2021 18:56

It would make my Christmas birthday better if it was moved to say, June 🤣

gofg · 16/12/2021 18:56

I will be honest and admit I don’t understand why people in the Southern Hemisphere celebrate Christmas in December. It would make much more sense to do it in June.

Don't be ridiculous! Christmas is celebrated at the same time worldwide - how would anyone remember when it was if different countries celebrated at different times? Imagine having to mark your diary to remember to send a card to Aunt Betty in June because she lives in Fiji? Also, has it not occured to you that those of us in the Southern Hempishere might not want Christmas in winter? I certainly don't.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 16/12/2021 18:58

🤣🤣 I have loads of birthdays in March and April, one in May, a couple in June, none in July or August though so I vote for August if we have to change it, we can tag it onto the end of the summer holidays or leave it where it is
