Crumpets

Why don't they taste like they used to ?! The last few packs I have tried taste pappy and sickly. I remember crumpets of old they were delicious ! Where am I going wrong ?!

They need to go in the toaster twice..

Try a few brands. The M n S ones are awful.

Has to be Warburtons only for me, all the rest are horrible.

Buy good crumpets.
Preheat toaster.
Drop in crumpets.
Couple minutes, pop them, turn them, drop them back down.
Only use proper best butter.

Another one saying Warburtons only. I like the giant ones you can buy. Toast the underside in the grill and then flip over and lightly grill the top. Add a thick layer of cheese and then grill until the cheese has melted. Delicious!

The sourdough ones seem better. Harder to find though.

Twice in the toaster or just hook them with a fork and put in the bbq.

Tesco own brand are pretty good, but definitely double toast and real butter.

Pikelets are not the same as crumpets. They are flat and softer.

I only ever buy cheap own brand crumpets, the rest are too doughy

I agree that Warburtons are the best, although I had some sourdough ones from Aldi that were very good too. They have to be very well toasted - almost to the point of being burnt, and smothered in good, salted butter.

Cook them under the grill, bottom first, then top. Smother in butter and Marmite. Hmm, I think I have just planned supper. There's a pack in the freezer.

I blacken mine for the proper crumpet taste.

Agree Warburton's only, m&s are the worst. More butter than you could possibly imagine

Must be warbutons (m&s are yucky). Toast for one and a half times until top crunchy (but smoke alarm still quiet). Wave in air 3 times then sprinkle with salt. Put small knob of real butter on (let it melt into the holes), wait 30 seconds and then a slice of butter on top of that and eat straightaway. You get the crunchy top with salt crystals and the gooey melted butter in inside and then the deliciousness of soft butter on the top. Heaven.

Crumpets have to be properly toasted or they are just horrible. I like mine crispy.

Waitrose sourdough ones are horrible; grainy and powdery texture, not to mention no discernible sourdough taste.

Yes they are called pikelets. Homemade ones are made with metal rings, so perfectly formed and full of holes. As for shop bought, the cheaper the better, usually!

I actually don’t like the warbertons, it’s own brand for me!
Toast the doughyness out of them for a good 8 minutes.

Sainsbury's taste the indifference sourdough ones aren't bad.
