To be pissed off my husband lost his wedding jacket?

He went on his Christmas do and not only did he decide it was on to walk home 2 miles in not the best weather (I still can't believe his friends would let him do that) but he lost our wedding jacket, that does make very, very pissed off/sad.

@VexedofVirginiaWater

I thought you kept the top tier for a Christening cake, but never heard of keeping a slice. I sent slices of cake to people who couldn't attend, but I didn't keep any - apart from the top tier, I put it in the freezer.

Isn't there a superstition that if you put some under your pillow you will dream of your future husband?

We took some of our cake and packed into those special boxes for sending to people who couldn’t be at the wedding. I found a rogue one i didn’t know I had in a little-used drawer a couple of weeks ago.

I have been married for 18 years Blush

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

One presumes his wedding top hat kept the bulk of the rain off?

@Terribleluck

The "blaming" the friends only comes from them knowing him when he's drunk. He's fallen off boats when drunk and got himself in fairly dangerous situations, so if I had a friend who behaves that way, I would make sure he makes it home safely.
Is your husband Robert Maxwell?
1forAll74 · 04/12/2021 12:58

Perhaps your Husband is not as bothered as you,about the lost posh jacket, unless he had a wallet or something in it.

Slothkin · 04/12/2021 12:59

Sorry OP, I do actually understand how irritating it can be when you’re juggling lots of stuff and your partner (or friend, or colleague) just does that one additional stupid thing which would usually be no big deal.

Slothkin · 04/12/2021 13:02

(Admittedly I’m remembering when my boyfriend lost our car keys when we were visiting my parents when I was 18, which would have been a bit annoying but no big deal if my secret stash of cigarettes weren’t in the boot).

If I had a friend like this I'd not be socialising with them. I don't go out to play guardian of some prat who can't control his drinking, I go out to relax.

Don't blame his friends, blame him, he's the issue.

@2018SoFarSoGreat

A 2 mile walk is not far, drunk or sober.

As to 'our wedding jacket' - I'm sorry but I'm really struggling too see how that can make you so upset. Let it go! Stop sulking and let it go. You'll feel a lot better when you have.

A 2 mile walk sober seems much further than when drunk!

Many many years ago my OH had a WW2 flying jacket and a decrepit car. The car broke down and he walked home, leaving the jacket in the car, next morning the car was still there but the jacket had gone! Now that was really, really annoying, throughout the 50+ years of our marriage he saw the value of those jackets soar and was so annyed at himself and I never disagreed.

@MichelleScarn

What was the bonus to physically lose it? Cash? A cheque? Why wouldn't it just be a BACS payment?
Which has hopefully gone via payroll & been taxed appropriately- handing out cash in brown envelopes sounds highly dodgy to me.
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 04/12/2021 13:17

@MrsLarry

"Plenty of people keep a slice of their wedding cake to keep as a memento/good lick charm"

Do they? I've never heard of that in my life. Gross!!

How have you no heard of a perfectly normal and common thing to do @MrsLarry?

Posters on here do surprise me. With their lack of general knowledge sometimes. How could keeping a fruit cake of any description be gross, have you no knowledge of them at all?

I once worked at a very stuffy old school kind of business that paid the Christmas bonus is cash, they were very above board and it was all done by the book. If you're always in overdraft it's actually a bonus if you have cash

Obviously we have no clue about the bonus here I'm just saying that cash doesn't necessarily equal dodgy.

BadLad · 04/12/2021 13:25

Well, I laughed.

I can't see this question coming up under the general knowledge round on mastermind!

I've heard of keeping the top tier for the christening.

Nothing is going to happen to the fruit cake, what about the marzipan and icing?

SaveItForTheBirds · 04/12/2021 13:28
@JaninesEyePatch it's an old trend. Just because Gucci is doing it doesn't mean it's not outdated. Gucci is quite chavvy in itself. Daniel Craig isn't a paragon of class...

And not everyone in Essex is chavvy but the entire county is known for being chavvy.
I know this is not the point of this thread, but I just wanted to respond to Courier as these kind of attitudes really piss me off.

I'm originally from Essex. The place where I grew up is called the Tendring Hundred and it's a particular lovely area of rolling countryside and beautiful coastline. You won't have heard of it though, because you know fuck all.

All while being banned from driving…

No, no, he MISPLACED his licence once, several years ago. Do keep up!

Agreed, how is keeping a slice of fruitcake “general knowledge”

Also - what’s the point of it? You won’t eat it, so why keep a minging old bit of cake?

Terribleluck · 04/12/2021 13:36

No, he actually got a driving ban due to DUI.

I'm clearly not the only one who hasn't heard of this "perfectly normal and common thing to do" so calm yourself dear.

BonesInTheOcean · 04/12/2021 13:40

@Terribleluck

And he also lost his Christmas bonus :/
3 weeks ago you couldn't afford a laptop, now you're all not really phased by losing £350 - £500?

Surely if you were on the bones of your arse, the first thing you'd do is get that money safe??

RodneyIsDave · 04/12/2021 13:43

Walked home many times when been out, wouldn’t want to rush home if I had someone who treated me like a child who can’t believe I was allowed to choose how to get home

JSL52 · 04/12/2021 13:43

Did he drive home this morning after he found the jacket ? If he got in plastered at 3am he'd still be over the limit this morning. I know someone who picked their car up at 3pm after a night out , he got breathalysed and banned.

No he got banned. She's just repeated it
Slothkin · 04/12/2021 13:46

I am very tired and dealing with a fair bit of physical pain so if someone could reassure me this thread has genuinely moved on to arguments about keeping fruitcake, the coastline of Essex and WWII flying jackets that would be great.

certainshepherdpups · 04/12/2021 14:01

None of this story makes sense. In one post you say it’s the first time he’s gone out since losing his license. But in another post he lost his license years ago. Confused Hmm
