Would you go to a wedding next weekend?

Am vaccinated and RSVP'd yes. Not old or CEV but I am wary.

Would you go? They've likely paid for me already. I have booked a hotel etc.

Doubts over whether it will even happen at this rate.

Do you think it will happen? (if it doesn't, I guess I wait for now and do nothing) and if it does, would you go?

It's a friend and around 100 guests I believe.

Neolara · 01/12/2021 19:02

Yes, I would go

teenagetantrums · 01/12/2021 19:02

Yes l would.

Dozer · 01/12/2021 19:02

Why are you ‘wary’?

weddingguesttbc · 01/12/2021 19:03

@Dozer if the vaccine doesn't work on the new variant and I catch Covid

MrzClaus · 01/12/2021 19:04

Yes!!

Going to a 100 people plus wedding this weekend.

Have my own wedding in two weeks!

DecayedStrumpet · 01/12/2021 19:04

I'm sure it'll be fine, in 3 days' time do you mean? I don't think anything is going to be cancelled in the next few weeks. Probably.

traintraveller · 01/12/2021 19:04

Yes, I'd go

weddingguesttbc · 01/12/2021 19:04

@DecayedStrumpet it's the 10th

OP posts:
Funnylittlefloozie · 01/12/2021 19:05

Hell yes, I love a party.

Largethighsbadeyes · 01/12/2021 19:05

Yes I'd go. It's not going to be a case of the vaccine not working at all on the new variant, but it may be less effective. At this stage I would go

HardbackWriter · 01/12/2021 19:06

I would, but that doesn't mean you have to! But what specifically is worrying you? Omicron or the high rates? Because the high rates aren't new.

Why do you think it might not go ahead? I think new restrictions by next weekend are really unlikely and a couple would have to be very cautious indeed to cancel now without being made to - they'll lose all their money (and a lot of their guests' money too).

mum11970 · 01/12/2021 19:06

Yep, without a second though.

3WildOnes · 01/12/2021 19:07

I would. I am not anxious about catching Covid though.

Vallmo47 · 01/12/2021 19:09

Absolutely. I have kids in two different schools and a key worker husband. I’ve also had covid. Live your life Op, it’s far too short to miss out on key events. 💗
@Dozer if the vaccine doesn't work on the new variant and I catch Covid
The vaccination doesn't work on the old variant. But it means I had mild version.

weddingguesttbc · 01/12/2021 19:12

@HardbackWriter no they won't cancel. I just dread these press conferences.

I think the last 18 months or so has made me very anxious and pessimistic

OP posts:
CoachBeardless · 01/12/2021 19:13

I read that the new variant is very mild?

Nowomenaroundeh · 01/12/2021 19:14

I would yes.

Callingallskeletons · 01/12/2021 19:15

Yes I would go ♥️

girlmom21 · 01/12/2021 19:15

There are currently 32 cases of the new variant in the whole country. You'd have to be extremely unfortunate to catch it.

whiteroseredrose · 01/12/2021 19:17

Yes, I'd go.

According to the doctors in South Africa the new variant is contagious but the symptoms are mild.

Smartiepants79 · 01/12/2021 19:17

Yes, yes, yes!!!!
Go and try and enjoy living life again!!
It won’t be cancelled.
At this stage catching the new variant is very unlikely.
I’m sorry your worrying but I find it really hard to understand this level of anxiety about this kind of thing.
I could catch any number of other things tomorrow or be involved in a life altering accident etc etc ….
The only thing that worries me is the impact on us actually living our lives.

Twillow · 01/12/2021 19:17

I would be anxious, but bearing in mind it's already organised I would go so as not to upset the bride and groom. I would keep my distance from others though and no hugging/kissing.
Boris sigh seems to think you can only catch it in a shop, not a hospitality setting Confused so hopefully, you'll be fine.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/12/2021 19:17

@3WildOnes I am not anxious about catching Covid though.

Um... have you been living in a cave for the past 2 years? I've lost two friends to COVID and almost lost another who is now registered as disabled while she recovers. Which will take 18-24 months at best.

What is it that you're not anxious about?
