To ask what time you eat your evening meal? (Dinner)

What time do you eat your dinner?

Do you eat with the children or wait until later?

If you do exercise in the evening, will you eat before or after?

We eat as a family by 6pm, but sometimes if I have things on and get back late, we may not eat until 7:30ish. This then feels like we are eating late, compared to normal, but wonder if actually this is a more usual time to eat. If there is such a thing.

Between 7.30 and 9.

garlictwist · 29/11/2021 16:01

it varies but to be honest it's just me and DP and so doesn't really matter. Sometmes 5pm sometimes 10pm, sometimes I just don't bother with it at all Grin

Anoisagusaris · 29/11/2021 16:04

Around 6ish, give or take 30mins. Have always eaten as a family.

CustardySergeant · 29/11/2021 16:06

Between 7.30 and 9.
Same. It's just me and my husband though, no children.
Chely · 29/11/2021 16:06

5/6pm. Used to eat much later but tend to eat at similar time to the kids or with the kids if doing a sharing meal.

HoseMeDownWithHolyWater · 29/11/2021 16:06

Between 5 and 6 otherwise I'll snack and I'm chubby enough!

SophieHatterPendragon · 29/11/2021 16:06

We eat as a family as a rule (DH,me & three kids 9,3&2) between 6-7pm

There are occasionally evenings DS1 (9) has one of his sporting activities which my DH (his step dad) takes him to so those evenings DH, DS1 & I eat when they get back between 7:30-8pm

When our 2&3 year olds are a bit older we’ll probably push dinner back to 7/730 as a family. That used to be our normal meal time when DH wasn’t wfh and had a long commute

OnTheMoonWithSteve · 29/11/2021 16:08

6ish as a family.

StoppedWineIng · 29/11/2021 16:14

Kids 5ish, me & DH 7.45-8.45

lazylinguist · 29/11/2021 16:14

Usually about 7, sometimes half an hour earlier or later. None of us do exercise in the evening. Dh and I each have one night a week when we are out at choir/band from 7 ish. We then eat at 6.

whiteonesugar · 29/11/2021 16:15

My perfect time would be about 6.30 as then i am less likely to snack later. However due to DC bathtime / bedtime etc its either 5.30ish as a family or after bedtime, around 7.45/8

TheCanyon · 29/11/2021 16:15

5/530 with the kids. Am I hell making food at bedtime.

GrouchyKiwi · 29/11/2021 16:15

5:30-6pm. We eat as a family.

shumway · 29/11/2021 16:17

Some time between 6 and 7 usually.

Caspianberg · 29/11/2021 16:17

Between 6-7pm. We eat as a family. There’s dh, myself and Ds age 1

EasyLikeSundays · 29/11/2021 16:17

Do you all usually always have a hot evening meal together as a family with school age children? My daughter is 4 and so in reception so she tends to eat a cold dinner (picnic sort of dinner) at 4.30/5ish on school days then we eat at 7.30 when she goes to bed as my DH doesn't get home to 6.45pm and she doesn't want another hot full meal ITSWIM. never sure if this is normal or not!

Between 6 and 7

Laiste · 29/11/2021 16:21

Between 4.30 and 5.00.
Always as a family.
Me + DH and youngest DD plus however many adult DCs and their other halves are hanging about and hungry.

I know it's weirdly early, but we start our day weirdly early Grin

FlickerBeat · 29/11/2021 16:21

No kids here, so we tend to also eat between 7-9. Couldn't eat any earlier.

Always wondered how people manage this as I'd love to eat earlier but due to "normal" working hours we always have to eat later. Do you do shorter days or something? So envious!
mrsm43s · 29/11/2021 16:25

Always eat as a family.

Children are now teens, so it's around 8ish.

When they were younger it was around 6ish, which was the earliest we could all eat together with commutes etc.

Classicblunder · 29/11/2021 16:26

Kids eat at 4:30/5ish - 3 days they eat at after school club/nursery - we eat at 7:30/8 ish. I would love to eat with the kids in principle but that's way too early and doesn't fit with our working hours

caringcarer · 29/11/2021 16:26

7.0-7.30 unless swimming then 9ish.
