To ask what time you eat your evening meal? (Dinner)

What time do you eat your dinner?

Do you eat with the children or wait until later?

If you do exercise in the evening, will you eat before or after?

We eat as a family by 6pm, but sometimes if I have things on and get back late, we may not eat until 7:30ish. This then feels like we are eating late, compared to normal, but wonder if actually this is a more usual time to eat. If there is such a thing.

Don’t really eat in the evening. Exercise 6:30-7:30 3 nights a week.

YourenutsmiLord · 30/11/2021 06:01

It's recommended by Dr Michael Mosley and many others that you fast between evening meal and breakfast - I think 12 hours is recommended.or longer if you can.
Good for insulin levels I think.
We eat about 6. but I'm an early riser so eat again about 5.30-6am

ElftonWednesday · 30/11/2021 06:02

What does it matter? No need to be insecure about it, there is no right and wrong time to eat your dinner. We eat between about 6pm and 8.30pm depending on what everyone has going on in the evening, and somethimes we don't manage to all eat together.

ElftonWednesday · 30/11/2021 06:11

I've followed the work of Michael Moseley for some time and while the Fast Diet etc are great, a lot of the recommendations would be very easy indeed if I lived alone or with one another person following the same regime, as he appears to. It's quite something else to adapt it to cooking for a family of five people with different routines and all different preferences.

Whoopsies · 30/11/2021 06:12

We eat with all together about 5:30, this just works well for us!

tzarine · 30/11/2021 06:17

when we lived in spain - around 10:00
now between 8:00 & 11:00

WildStallyn · 30/11/2021 06:51

Kids are 6 & 8. We eat as a family around 6-6:30 apart from Fridays when they have later activities so we don't wat until 7:30.

Theoldwoman · 30/11/2021 06:58

Depending who is home and who is working , it can be anywhere from 5-7pm!

FinallySomeNormality · 30/11/2021 07:15

We eat separate to the kids. So, we put the kids to bed and then start cooking about 7:30, and eat about 8/8:30.

MaryShelley1818 · 30/11/2021 07:30

We eat between 5.30-6ish. Always eat as a family, children age 4 and 10mths. I would hate to eat separately from the children unless it was impossible not to - mealtimes are social and who wants to cook and wash up twice every night.

Fomofo · 30/11/2021 08:16

About 6.30/7, I like to eat earlier than later as is better for you, and eat at least 2 hours before bed

Scotabroad24 · 30/11/2021 11:42

I would love us to eat as a family but it's just not possible. DS gets his dinner around 5.30pm and then a bath, DH doesn't get home until 7/7.30pm so sees DS briefly before bedtime. We eat later at around 8.30/9ish

I'll be back at work next year and DS will be in nursery full-time so we probably won't get home until 7. Hoping then to be able to eat all together.

Surely that's just normal mealtime routine for most people though?

Yeah I was wondering that. Not eating between two normal meals isn't really fasting is it?
Floralnomad · 30/11/2021 11:49

No children here and we eat anytime between 6 and 8:30 depending on what time my husband is about .

MrsD28 · 30/11/2021 12:27

DS & DD (5 and 2) eat at around 6.30 - 6.45pm then straight to bath and bed. DH and I eat at around 8-8.30pm, depending on how quickly the kids went to sleep! We would like to start eating dinner as a family but we keep putting it off because DH and I don't want to eat that early and we also don't want to give up our "adult" (very spicy!) meals that our kids would not touch. We do always sit together with the children during their dinner though, and we eat all of our other meals (breakfast, weekend lunch, snacks (for the kids) / coffee (for us!)) together at the table.

Cheeseplantboots · 30/11/2021 12:30

5.30/6. We usually all eat at the same time but rarely together.

qualitygirl · 30/11/2021 12:31

It varies depending on the evening...on evenings with no activities/clubs etc then we eat around half 5/6
On evenings with activities it's around 7

We both finish work at 4.30 sometimes earlier as we have flexi time.

monty09 · 30/11/2021 12:34

We eat as a family m, between 6.30-7.30 other than Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings where I eat when I get back from college.

mumofbun · 30/11/2021 12:40

Variable

Mondays i have an exercise class so we eat after that (last night about half 7 while DS had a snack, he gets tea at nursery). Tues-Thurs DS is also in childcare so we'll cook something once we've collected him and eat while he has a bedtime snack. We used to do it after he went to bed but somehow our 18 month old stays up until half 8 and that's too late for us!

Over the weekend we eat as a family sometime between 5&6

mbosnz · 30/11/2021 13:07

Depends on evening meetings - usually between 7.30 and 9.00, with 8.30 being the most common. We eat as a family, with the girls, who are older teens. Eldest DD's poor boyfriend cannot cope with how late we eat!

cushioncovers · 30/11/2021 13:14

Between 5-7 depending on the day.

lastqueenofscotland · 30/11/2021 13:18

Between 7:30-9
Just me and DP.
I’d be ravenous by 8 if I ate at 4:30! That’s late lunch.

ivfbabymomma1 · 30/11/2021 17:11

If my son has had tea at nursery then we'll have tea after he's got to bed (7:30ish)
If he's having tea at home we all have it together at 6ish
