To ask what time you eat your evening meal? (Dinner)

What time do you eat your dinner?

Do you eat with the children or wait until later?

If you do exercise in the evening, will you eat before or after?

We eat as a family by 6pm, but sometimes if I have things on and get back late, we may not eat until 7:30ish. This then feels like we are eating late, compared to normal, but wonder if actually this is a more usual time to eat. If there is such a thing.

Dinner’s on the table after 6.30.

Username916 · 29/11/2021 16:29

About 5pm. It's important to me we all eat together. 3 year old can't wait any longer for her dinner. It does mean that either me or OH gets dinner started about 4.30 and I eat as soon as I get off at 5. Helps that we both work at home.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 29/11/2021 16:29

Usually 6pm - ish.

Squirrelblanket · 29/11/2021 16:29

Between 5.30-6.30pm. We don't have kids and we exercise in the mornings.

lap90 · 29/11/2021 16:30

Between 6 and 7.

appleturnovers · 29/11/2021 16:30

Before DC it was any time between 7:30 and 9, but now with DC it's 6:30 and we eat as a family.

Skips123 · 29/11/2021 16:31

Depends if DP is going out to football or if I have plans. If either of us have plans we have dinner altogether at about 5:30-5:45ish and if not we have dinner by ourselves once LO is in bed so around 7:15-7:30pm. Smile

UniBallEye · 29/11/2021 16:33

Usually 8pm and always have eaten around this time with dc. Very occasionally 7.30pm but rarely earlier.
We work and are not home till after 6 so there's no physical way we could eat at 5pm.

Rumplestrumpet · 29/11/2021 16:35

I usually eat with (young) kids 5:30/6pm. DH will unless he's working late. But we should probably eat later because we both end up snacking in front of the TV once they're in bed 🙈

Pre-kids we ate 7ish

Minceandonions · 29/11/2021 16:37

I was brought up eating dinner at 5.30. DH was brought up eating it at 8.30. We now eat at 7-7.30.

Wiaa · 29/11/2021 16:38

We eat together when dh gets home anytime between 5 and 6.dc are 2 and 5. Dh does a sport on Mondays straight after work so we eat without him then.

StrawBeretMoose · 29/11/2021 16:40

Between 7:30 and 9:30, my preference is towards the later end of that so I have time to relax a bit after work.

Any exercise is before dinner, if the exercise is swimming I'll have a little snack in the car as it makes me so hungry!

MintyGreenDream · 29/11/2021 16:43

Ds eats at 3.30pm then supper at around 7.I eat around 5.30 as dh works away in the week.

MorningTeas · 29/11/2021 16:43

5-5.30ish

MintyGreenDream · 29/11/2021 16:43

I exercise in the morning

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/11/2021 16:47

Depends what after school activities we have. Its just me and DDs during the week, so I can't cook until I've brought them both home. No activities it could be 6ish, with activities 7.30ish.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/11/2021 16:48

Between 6 and 7, as a family. I prefer to eat slightly later, DH slightly earlier but we both feel it's important that we all dine together, so we compromised.

idontlikealdi · 29/11/2021 16:48

In one respect lockdown was great, we ate as a family around 6/630. When I'm in the office i don't get home until 730 so the kids eat early and we eat whenever I get round to it.

MinnieMountain · 29/11/2021 16:50

6pm with DS. He eats at MIL’s twice a week, one evening of which DH has hockey practice. DH eats after hockey.

I tend to eat at 7pm if not eating with DH or DS.

Sciurus83 · 29/11/2021 16:51

How do people eat before 6?! We don't finish work till gone 5, then home from nursery/work and cooking it's usually more like 7 at the earliest

HelplesslyHoping · 29/11/2021 16:51

Between 7 and 9. DD goes to bed at 6/7 so we have time to cook and eat in peace.

HardbackWriter · 29/11/2021 16:53

We all (me, DH, 3 yo, 9mo) eat at 6, and have done since DS1 was weaning as a baby. I sort of hate it - it feels like I'm eating at children's tea time to me and would much prefer to eat at our pre-children time of 8pm - but I hate the idea of starting cooking after the children are in bed even more!

ISpyCobraKai · 29/11/2021 16:54

On my own now, anytime between 5, (v early), and 10, ((v late) but between 6 and 87 is generally the norm.
When Dd was young I aimed for around 5.30, I felt that was a good time between coming home from school and bed.

ISpyCobraKai · 29/11/2021 16:56

6 and 7, not 87!
If I exercise, ha !, it's during the day.

Laiste · 29/11/2021 16:59

@EasyLikeSundays We're up at 5.45am as DH is out the door at 6.45. His work is 7.30 till half 3.

I worked as a TA for years (till recently) so i was always home by then too.

We're usually in bed by 10.

It's nice to get the meal plus clearing up all done early, but the downside is getting the nibbles at half 8 ish and sticking to low cal snacks Grin
