To ask you to recommend a cheaper laundry liquid?

I’m trying to cut costs. I have always bought branded laundry liquid like Ariel, fairy or bold but it’s so expensive. I tried an own brand - I think it was Asda and it was just rubbish.
Can anyone recommend any cheaper detergent that’s not bad? I use the liquid not powder as the powder seems to clog my machine and the liquitabs are even more expensive, we are only a family of four but I do laundry every day!

Lidl or Aldi own. I do occasionally use powder but I put it straight in the drum. Tabs are a nightmare as they can clog drains!

CheeseFace · 28/11/2021 18:31

I use Surf.

MeatyRvita · 28/11/2021 18:32

Aldi’s own is brilliant!

notapineapple · 28/11/2021 18:34

I just buy the branded stuff but from shops like savers, it can be a lot cheaper for the exact same product as the supermarket

Preech · 28/11/2021 18:35

If you have a Costco membership or know someone who does, Kirkland brand is good.

MBM18 · 28/11/2021 18:44

I've only tried non bio liquid, never had an issue with Tesco's.

I would recommend the Aldi own brand liquid wash (where you put a capful in the draw).
It's cheap and smells great and gets every day stains out too.
I used to spend a fortune on Bold, Persia etc but this has saved me a fortune. Several different fragrances to chose from too. I like the coconut one!

PinkiOcelot · 28/11/2021 18:49

Same as @MBM18. Always use Tesco non bio. No problem with it.

Immaculatemisconception · 28/11/2021 18:50

Aldi definitely.

Aldi liquid. it rated high on the Consumer association tests. So did their dishwashing tablets and their washing powder.

CommanderBurnham · 28/11/2021 19:00

Fairy sometimes is a lot cheaper on groupon

DroopyClematis · 28/11/2021 19:04

Always used to use Fairy or Ariel.

Discovered Formil at Lidl.

It's brilliant and you only need to use a small amount.

No scratching by my husband or son who are quite sensitive to laundry products.

One big box ( which is hard to get now, for some reason) will last a very long time.

HTH.

Skyll · 28/11/2021 19:06

Lidl Formil. It’s fabulous.

MissyB1 · 28/11/2021 19:06

Is powder better for your machine?

Agadorsparticus · 28/11/2021 19:10

We've switched to Lidl Formil, it's good stuff

5zeds · 28/11/2021 19:10

Collect conkers follow instructions on the net, make free detergent

purplesequins · 28/11/2021 19:13

powder direct into drum doesn't clog anything up.

lidl or aldi own brand cleaning stuff always comes up high in which! and equivalent testing services.

nonevernotever · 28/11/2021 19:16

www.ecoegg.com/product/laundry-egg/ we switched to these and love them.

abc345 · 28/11/2021 19:20

My son did a science project where he tested a variety of washing powders on 10 different stains. Aldi powder came second, beaten only by Ariel. Persil was towards the bottom.

DeathMetalMum · 28/11/2021 19:24

We use aldi. No bio as dd has sensitive skin but have used the powder, liquid and powder tabs and all great.

WeeBenny · 28/11/2021 19:36

Pink stuff liquid is really good. Smells lovely too

MrsClatterbuck · 28/11/2021 19:36

I have changed to Sainsburys liquid. I always use a dosing ball but might try Lidl after reading the posts here. I always used Persil before and I am also making sure I use the right dosage as I was definitely being too heavy handed.

I use Woolite for delicates but wonder if there is something cheaper. Used to get Mark's when they did a good offer but they have stopped doing their liquid for delicates and woollens. Have bought the Persil one to try atm.

SockFluffInTheBath · 28/11/2021 19:39

The Aldi one is pretty good. I usually wash with powder but keep the liquid to use as a pre-wash stain treatment.
