To ask you to recommend a cheaper laundry liquid?

I’m trying to cut costs. I have always bought branded laundry liquid like Ariel, fairy or bold but it’s so expensive. I tried an own brand - I think it was Asda and it was just rubbish.
Can anyone recommend any cheaper detergent that’s not bad? I use the liquid not powder as the powder seems to clog my machine and the liquitabs are even more expensive, we are only a family of four but I do laundry every day!

@MBM18

I've only tried non bio liquid, never had an issue with Tesco's.
I went from always using persil and swapped to tesco non bio. Occasionally a wilkos and never had an issue x

Aldi. Morrisonss a reasonable replacement for Aldi. But Aldi is very good

billy1966 · 28/11/2021 22:06

@nonevernotever

www.ecoegg.com/product/laundry-egg/ we switched to these and love them.
I use the egg for dark washes and Aldi bio for my whites with a scoop of whitener, and a squirt of white vinegar.

Sparkling whites here...don't you know!😙😂

I use the £1 stuff from Poundland and have no complaints with it.

ThinWomansBrain · 28/11/2021 22:14

another vote for Aldi. I used to use the tablets, but have switched to liquid.
Whatever I'm using, I put it straight in the machine rather than the dispenser. If I have stains on anything, I often smear the liquid on them pre-wash.
Also, if you're trying to cut costs - or chemicals- you rarely need anything like the quantities stated on the pack. I use a large washing machine, always stuffed full - when using tablets I always used one tablet rather than the reccomended two, and it was fine.

Isbdm · 28/11/2021 22:15

To cut costs, I’d use less of it. The manufacturer amounts are excessive. I use less than a quarter of what they recommend.

ThinWomansBrain · 28/11/2021 22:29

@Spaghettio using a pump dispenser is a good idea - i'm quite conservative about how much I use, but pouring liquid from a bottle is a bit hit and miss.

Libertaire · 28/11/2021 22:33

Another vote for Lidl Formil. I have no idea why some people insist on paying more. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jumping back on post, what to people use on delicate fabrics hand wash only?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 29/11/2021 11:20

Aldi powder but straight in the drum not the drawer

Get an eco egg.

Lochroy · 29/11/2021 11:37

I think cheaper liquid is a false economy. Use a decent one like Ariel at 30 degrees and it will save you far more money than having to wash at 40 degrees to get a cheap liquid to do an effective job.

emmathedilemma · 29/11/2021 11:39

I use the Aldi non-bio pods and they're great, even on stinky sports kit. I have really sensitive skin (can't use Fairy despite their claims about baby's skin) and they're fine.

ablutiions · 29/11/2021 11:59

I have switched to try earth strips. No plastic, delivered to your door and takes up much less space

Not sure of price per wash comparison to what you currently use though

Coldilox · 29/11/2021 12:25

I use Aldi powder, it’s fab

Tomnooktoldmeto · 29/11/2021 12:31

I use soap nuts, no need for fabric softener and costs me less than £5 a year. Clothes are clean no smell at all, apparently you can add aromatherapy oil if you want but I’m asthmatic so don’t. Occasionally I add oxiaction if we have a stubborn stain but normally they work fine on a 30 degree wash

I calculated that by now I’ve saved the cost of a new washing machine by using them and been kind to the environment

What a strange thing to say!

Aldi's detergents don't need any higher temperatures than Ariel. I've tried just about every brand and always come back to Aldi.

dollygirl12 · 29/11/2021 13:37

Sainsbury's & Tesco's non bio liquid are amazing. I only use Fairy for the baby's clothes

ZenNudist · 29/11/2021 13:38

I like Aldi and lidl both good. Especially like the purple lidl one. I use liquids too.

ZenNudist · 29/11/2021 13:39

I wash at 30 too

Bootsnshoes · 29/11/2021 13:42

I cannot use Ariel or Fairy only Persil non bio. I find the Tesco non bio liquid is an excellent alternative if I cannot get PNB on offer. Home Bargains do a massive bottle of Persil for about a tenner, it lasts a long time and we are do 7-14 washes a week.

You only need a half container.

Softner wise, Comfort is always on offer but Tesco baby Softner is cheap and Lovely and most importantly doesn't flare up any skin in this house.

Bootsnshoes · 29/11/2021 13:43

I only wash at 30 degrees and the occasional high temp if something is really soiled or depending on what my work clothes have seen that day. No difference in Tesco vs Persil.

LaCerbiatta · 29/11/2021 13:49

I thought liquid was worse for clogging the machine than powder? I use persil non bio powder which is also plastic free.

Tittyfilarious81 · 29/11/2021 13:51

Aldi almat I've used it for years absolutely brilliant
