To ask you to recommend a cheaper laundry liquid?

I’m trying to cut costs. I have always bought branded laundry liquid like Ariel, fairy or bold but it’s so expensive. I tried an own brand - I think it was Asda and it was just rubbish.
Can anyone recommend any cheaper detergent that’s not bad? I use the liquid not powder as the powder seems to clog my machine and the liquitabs are even more expensive, we are only a family of four but I do laundry every day!

I tried the Smol stuff and the smell made me nauseous. To me it's damp/musty.
Have gone back to using Fairy.

MadisonAvenue · 29/11/2021 13:55

I get Persil non-bio on a subscribe and save from Amazon.

ponkydonkey · 29/11/2021 13:59

I've used them all
But always go back to Tesco

Lidl and Aldi ones are great too

Lochroy · 29/11/2021 14:25

@GladAllOver

I think cheaper liquid is a false economy. Use a decent one like Ariel at 30 degrees and it will save you far more money than having to wash at 40 degrees to get a cheap liquid to do an effective job.

What a strange thing to say!

Aldi's detergents don't need any higher temperatures than Ariel. I've tried just about every brand and always come back to Aldi.

Why is it strange?

The biggest cost involved in doing laundry is the cost of the electricity it takes to heat up the water.

IME, but obviously not yours, cheaper detergents don't clean as well so I end up using a hotter wash. Which is what it's a false economy. It's cheaper in total for me to buy a decent detergent and wash at 30.

I mention this because people don't always consider the whole picture.

We've all got very irritable skin, Tesco non bio opposer is cheap and doesn't make us itch. It also makes the machine less gloopy.

IAmMeThisIsI · 29/11/2021 14:36

I love the lavender scented Tesco own brand! It makes my whites bright and smells delicious! And it's extremely cheap!

Stripey3000 · 29/11/2021 14:54

Smol. They post them to you, liquid capsules, and there's no plastic packaging, all cardboard to can be recycled easily.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 29/11/2021 15:00

@CheeseFace

I use Surf.
I also use Surf. They do some lovely scents. Over summer I had a Coconut one and a watermelon one. Now I have a festive one. Not OTT, just nice. Smells lovely when drying indoors. It's pretty much always £3 for a bottle that does (I think) 25 washes.
lazylinguist · 29/11/2021 15:00

I use Aldi Almat powder. It's great at whatever temperature. I've read that powder is better for your machine, and I've certainly found mine doesn't get gunky since I've only used powder in it. I also use white vinegar with a dash of lavender oil instead of fabric conditioner.

DukkaDukka · 29/11/2021 15:07

I use Aldi liquitabs they’re about £3 a box. I like their dishwasher tablets too.

nannybeach · 29/11/2021 15:10

Lidl 2 in 1 and practically all washing done on cold setting

TuftyMarmoset · 29/11/2021 15:13

Use less, you can use half of what they recommend

Cobiemakesmesmulder · 29/11/2021 17:56

Love the Aldi one. Green liquid - white bottle, green lid and label. Much prefer it over branded.

AngryAngryAngry is that the winter sparkle? I've been hunting for WEEKS for that AngryAngry

Spaghettio · 29/11/2021 18:49
@Spaghettio using a pump dispenser is a good idea - i'm quite conservative about how much I use, but pouring liquid from a bottle is a bit hit and miss.
It certainly stopped me from overfilling my dosing ball (and it also stopped all the mess as I was always spilling it! 🤦🏻‍♀️).

Formil at Lidl is what I am using at the moment, would recommend.

Shortbread49 · 29/11/2021 21:01

Lidl non bio liquid

CalmDownBoris72 · 29/11/2021 21:03

I like Asda Tropical gel.

Oh thank you! I have the comfort and love it. Been to sainsburys, Wilko, b&m.. every time I see the bottle I'm YAYYYY. Then I realise it's the comfort GrinSad
gogohm · 29/11/2021 21:19

Lidl's is fine

ThinWomansBrain · 05/12/2021 14:33

Brilliant idea on the pump!
I've just decanted from a giant 1.5 litre bottle to a smaller one with a pump dispenser that I can top up.
1 squirt is 5ml - it's so hard to judge the amount when pouring from a large bottle.

Washing soda or soap nuts (this sort of thing: www.naturalcollection.com/shop/greenfrog-botanic-laundry-soap-nuts---500g-by-greenfrog-botanics/?PCode=DSGPESS15&gclid=Cj0KCQiA47GNBhDrARIsAKfZ2rA3Mi_cidzf9r5Ed0doLTz4cklFIzlYv7J73cAEmEYSt-UMPK7ZjZ8aAsvUEALw_wcB ) as suggested by previous posters. Soap nuts =excellent for delicates/coloureds.

Or this (super concentrated): www.faithinnature.co.uk/products/aloe-vera-rosemary-laundry-liquid-5l-refill

or this (no fragrance, though the same company does fragranced versions also) [[https://biod.co.uk/shop/laundry/bio-d-laundry-liquid-fragrance-free-5l/]]
If you use Amaozon, they usually deliver these 5ltr containers post free, I think.
