I was on my way to an appointment with the Midwife this morning around 10:30am.

I was running late because I was feeding DD and didn't have time for any breakfast. Left to get the bus and grabbed a pack of Salt and Vinegar Squares from Sainsbury's and ate it at the bus stop once I had gotten off the bus.

Minding my business eating my Squares and some woman comes up to me saying 'you shouldn't be eating crisps at this time of the day'Hmm I told her I'm pregnant and I'll eat whatever I want when I want. She then said I was rude and unfit to be mum and went about her day!

AIBU in thinking she's actually the rude one coming up to me telling me off as if I'm her 5 year old child lolConfused

@Dollywilde

I don’t know if you’re visibly pregnant but there’s something about it which attracts busybodies sticking their noses in. During my first pregnancy the only caffeine I had was one single can of Diet Coke a day, and my boss snarkily asked me ‘do unborn babies like aspartame then?’. Wanker.
Much of the US Republican party for example.

Back to the topic…. She’s a busy body with no manners.

My daughter is a T1 diabetic. She has to eat odd things at odd times. How does this woman know that you don’t have a particular condition? Or just plain hungry?

PandorasMailbox · 08/11/2021 19:09

Everyone knows that smoky bacon are the only appropriate breakfast crisps Grin

The number 4 bus goes to fuck. Hurry up or you'll miss it.
@LittleDandelionClock !! You should’ve done an aggressive chest-shimmy dance move, ideally chasing her down the road doing it. Like herding, but fabulously?
Obviously she was in the wrong.
But I wonder if some people are so lonely they will attempt social interaction in any way possible.
My DS works in a cafe, they have an elderly lady who goes in every day and every day she goes up to the counter to complain.

hibye123 · 08/11/2021 19:33

@DeliriaSkibbly

That obviously touched a nerve, didn't it ?
Not at all. How many times has someone made a post on AIBU which probably wasn't needed. The whole point is to hear other people's opinions and see things from a different viewpoint. It's clearly a lighthearted thread so no need for such a strange comment. However there's usually always one so continue!

@TheLadyhasarrived

When people make comments like this, like the woman who came up to me and said my 2 dc shouldn’t be wearing GAP hoodies as it means gay and proud (I mean Confused ) I just say “ooh I know! What would the vicar say?!”
🤣

Ooo I do love me a smokey bacon pack of crisps😍 I can never find a grab bag tho? I only ever see them in multipacks which is so upsetting lol

Maybe that lady should go somewhere else!

This thread made me go out and buy a bag of salt and vinegar McCoy's.

Tototipple · 08/11/2021 19:57

Ha ha remember being told off whilst queuing at the garage- that the crisps and chocolate I was buying was terribly unhealthy …..

…. by a man, holding the cigarettes he’d just bought

Gutted I was too taken aback to say anything back.

MrsJamPanMan · 08/11/2021 20:01

There was a time when I was young and thin when it seemed I couldn’t even eat a sandwich in my lunchtime without some old git saying “you’ll get fat”.
Anyway she was rude to you.

As I said earlier, I totally ignored the rude woman who commented on my cleavage showing (ooh the horror of part of a woman's BREASTS showing!) Hmm

So I think ignoring that stupid, nosey man at the garage, was the best thing to do. These real life trolls are like the trolls on mumsnet, they post for a reaction. It infuriates them when they don't get one.

HelloBambinos · 08/11/2021 20:08

I was minding my own business breastfeeding my son when he was a couple of months old whilst also battling PND at the time and I got called a sl*g. I wasn't going to shout as didn't want to startle my son and tbh at the time I didn't have the emotional capacity or energy to respond. I felt nothing in that moment. Though obviously looking back I would have torn them a new one. Some people are vile and rude. I'm a midwife and I say eat the damn crisps. Squares are great.

MrsJamPanMan · 08/11/2021 20:08

Probably the weirdest telling off from a complete stranger was when DH and I made a mistake crossing the road at traffic lights in Salisbury and ended up running. An oldish bloke said our road safety discipline was terrible “and one day you’ll make a mess and it will serve you right, but what I’m worried about is someone else will have to clear it up.”
He’d obviously given it a lot of thought.

LittleDandelionClock · 08/11/2021 20:11

This used to happen to me many years ago too. It was women and men who said it.

I used to also occasionally get people saying 'eating again?' I have never been a big eater, and have never ate a lot, yet I would get some cunt saying 'eating again?' Got to the point where I wouldn't eat at all in front of people (in public.)

WTF is wrong with people? I would never EVER say anything like this to someone.

And I re-iterate, these kind of things are only said to women.

HTH1 · 08/11/2021 20:15

YABU (why would you eat Squares when Doritos are so much nicer?). I like it when random people have a go at me, gives me a chance to offload the anger which must be bubbling just beneath the surface.

I did see someone on the tube the other morning drinking G&T, which I thought was a bit odd - but up to him, wasn't that bothered.
It's illegal to drink alcohol on TFL - I don't think there's any anti crisp legislation though - or Salt and Vinegar Squares

HTH1 · 08/11/2021 20:17

Oh and I would have started to eat dramatically in slow motion, with lots of “Mmmmm” noises and lip smacking.

MrsJamPanMan · 08/11/2021 20:20

@LittleDandelionClock
Yes, women and men commented. On one occasion I was even eating breakfast in my own home when a friend of my mum’s dropped by and commented on my appetite. No, men don’t get all this personal stuff.

firstimemamma · 08/11/2021 20:22

She sounds crazy op. Perhaps she's the same lady who told me off in a shop once for chatting quietly here and there to my baby as I went around. "What's the point, he doesn't even understand you?" Ffs he likes it and that's how babies learn to talk! Some people are just weird and rude.

P.s. I'm pregnant now too and am forever stuffing my face out and about!

🤣 there's currently a crisp shortage all over ffs!! My usual go too is Tangy Cheese Doritos (soooo yummy😍) but there hasn't been any for nearly a week which is starting to tip me over the edge lol. Squares are easily second best!

Oh wow🤣🤣 how miserable is that! I'm always pushing DD around in her buggy talking to her and she's only 6 months lol. I've probably been doing it since she was a newborn. Some people are never happy
