'Told off' by a random stranger

I was on my way to an appointment with the Midwife this morning around 10:30am.

I was running late because I was feeding DD and didn't have time for any breakfast. Left to get the bus and grabbed a pack of Salt and Vinegar Squares from Sainsbury's and ate it at the bus stop once I had gotten off the bus.

Minding my business eating my Squares and some woman comes up to me saying 'you shouldn't be eating crisps at this time of the day'Hmm I told her I'm pregnant and I'll eat whatever I want when I want. She then said I was rude and unfit to be mum and went about her day!

AIBU in thinking she's actually the rude one coming up to me telling me off as if I'm her 5 year old child lolConfused

Cripes. As a pregnant woman, welcome to your business being everyone else's and random strangers refusing to sell you cheese/prodding your belly/passing comment/kissing you.

Sorry, OP, what a daft comment and horrible person. Brew

ToTheCrystalDome · 08/11/2021 16:15

I couldn't get enough salt & vinegar Squares when I was pregnant and would have happily eaten them at any time of day so I understand totally where you're coming from (although missing the point slightly!)

tallduckandhandsome · 08/11/2021 16:28

She was 100% BU. However, I do agree with her that salt and vinegar crisps for breakfast would start my whole day off badly. But telling a stranger not to do it?! Unpardonable.

Snugglemuffins4me · 08/11/2021 16:30

She wouldn’t like me I have salt and Vinger Pringles by my bed and can be found nibbling them at 3 am !! Only thing that helps !! Nasty woman !!!

You should have said "I know, but I'm always starving after my morning beer"

Watchingyouwazowski · 08/11/2021 16:57

Mmmmmm... Salt and Vinegar Squares. I love em!

CantHaveTooMuchChocolate · 08/11/2021 17:13

@Justmuddlingalong

It would appear that you met my mother. 😁

Really?

Staryflight445 · 08/11/2021 17:32

Ugh, some people are terrible.

hibye123 · 08/11/2021 17:44

@FionnulaTheCooler

Yeah..welcome to the world of being a Mum. Be prepared to be judged. And never favourably

Oh yes and it doesn't even end at pregnancy or the baby/toddler stage. I had a woman come up to me in Morrison's cafe to tell me off for letting DD put salt on her chips. DD was about 8 at the time. I just blanked her and acted like she wasn't there and she huffed off.

What is wrong with people😂 I should have started a thread to ask for the cheekiest thing a stranger has said to you!

@nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut

The number 4 bus goes to fuck. Hurry up or you'll miss it.
Excellent reply! Grin

You were far politer that I would have been OP Grin I do love square crisps, one of my faves.

There were no crisps at all in Tesco today! Or on Friday.

We did have crisps but a far reduced number.

Sorberret · 08/11/2021 18:01

She is most definitely BU!

BackInBlackAgain · 08/11/2021 18:08

@ilovesooty what would she be getting a round of applause for? Hitching her bosom and walking off without saying anything? Hardly applause worthy.

I know but she describes it in colourful language as if she was sooo brave everyone must have noticed. She sounds very angry. Grin

You are not being unreasonable to think it's out of order.

You are being unreasonable for needing the reassurance of a bunch of random people off the internet over this.

Who said I needed the reassurance of a bunch of random people on the internet lol? Where did I say that?? I posted this simply to hear the responses of other people, didn't need reassurance at all thanks

That obviously touched a nerve, didn't it ?

Why so snippy? Isn't that precisely what AIBU is for? To see how others feel about situations that have occurred?
Sonex · 08/11/2021 18:47

That person clearly has issues, you don't. I would have just laughed tbh.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 08/11/2021 18:50

I remember being pregnant, kind, fluffy and well-disposed to people. Thankfully those days are far behind me.

She was a twat, OP. There are so many of them. When you are not pregnant and kids are older you will get far more comfortable telling people to shut up and/or get to fuck.

Mumoblue · 08/11/2021 18:50

I LIVED on salt & vinegar crisps when I was pregnant (mostly McCoy’s). That and Mars bars (sometimes at the same time) was my craving.

You had a run in with a random nutter, unfortunately. Don’t let it phase you.

Worst part of when I was eating my crisps and chocolate was a co-worker looking down her nose at me and saying it “wasn’t very healthy for the baby”, even though she knew I had hyperemesis and that was pretty much all I could keep down.

People need to mind their own business.

TheLadyhasarrived · 08/11/2021 18:53

When people make comments like this, like the woman who came up to me and said my 2 dc shouldn’t be wearing GAP hoodies as it means gay and proud (I mean Confused )
I just say “ooh I know! What would the vicar say?!”

Pbbananabagel · 08/11/2021 18:59

I didn’t LIKE salt and vinegar flavour anything until I was pregnant, now they’re my favourite crisps! misses point of thread
