'Told off' by a random stranger

I was on my way to an appointment with the Midwife this morning around 10:30am.

I was running late because I was feeding DD and didn't have time for any breakfast. Left to get the bus and grabbed a pack of Salt and Vinegar Squares from Sainsbury's and ate it at the bus stop once I had gotten off the bus.

Minding my business eating my Squares and some woman comes up to me saying 'you shouldn't be eating crisps at this time of the day'Hmm I told her I'm pregnant and I'll eat whatever I want when I want. She then said I was rude and unfit to be mum and went about her day!

AIBU in thinking she's actually the rude one coming up to me telling me off as if I'm her 5 year old child lolConfused

A proper fuck off should have been sufficient

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/11/2021 14:09

I think she wanted your Squares Grin Salt n vinegar squares are amazing, really want some now.

Phrowzunn · 08/11/2021 14:09

OP I’m right there with you - I’m pregnant and so sick and the only thing keeping me alive are salt and vinegar crisps. Discos for the win. Maybe in her head she thought she said it in a jokey/funny way…? Either way you did nothing wrong! Unfit to be a mother 😂😂

Knifeandfawkes · 08/11/2021 14:10

I was once threatened with social services for allowing my five year old neice a nibble of Bailey's flavoured fudge. Fucking loon.

Gonnagetgoing · 08/11/2021 14:11

I’ve had a random stranger tell me I should put my phone away (I was texting a friend in a street) and someone else tell me I should be careful with my purse/bag - both older men/women! I don’t mind if it’s in a foreign city (eg Paris) where I wasn’t aware of pickpockets.

So rude to tell you what you should or shouldn’t eat!

PuzzledObserver · 08/11/2021 14:13

She looked me directly in the face in the street market, pointed at my cleavage, and said 'you need to cover up, you shouldn't be showing them like that!

I might think it, but I would never in a million years actually say it.

kiki22 · 08/11/2021 14:13

A man told me outside a shop recently I shouldn't eat the chocolate bar I had in my hand. Totally random

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 08/11/2021 14:16

I wonder what time is the right time of day to eat crisps? Confused

Moonshine11 · 08/11/2021 14:17

What is wrong with people 😂

Hope you enjoyed your crisps! Love salt and vinegar squares. Disco ones are better though.

ElftonWednesday · 08/11/2021 14:17

All I fancied was crisps, chips and things with soy sauce when I was pregnant with DD1. Definitely a low blood pressure thing, just craving salt.

I'd have asked her at what time of day it became acceptable to eat crisps?

camperjam · 08/11/2021 14:18

I really want some crisps now

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 08/11/2021 14:18

Yabu, everyone knows that appropriate morning crisps are the steak McCoy's, those of us with a more refined pallette save salt and vinegar squares until after lunch 😂😂

Treacletreacle · 08/11/2021 14:19

A woman once crossed the road and started trying to talk to my daughter in the pram and then started shounting "naughty mummy, naughty mummy" she then looked at me and said I have 4 children and none of them had a dummy. So I replied "good for you" she then told me she had breast fed all 4 of them until them were 3. So I replied "well they were sucking on something then" and walked off.

Helpimfalling · 08/11/2021 14:20

@Justmuddlingalong

It would appear that you met my mother. 😁
Lmao
Cuntness · 08/11/2021 14:20

I was wearing a T-shirt that said "tickle my fancy" or something. It was for breast cancer awareness.

An old lady told me off because it was rude. She shut up when I told her it was for a good cause! 🤣🤣

JudgeJ · 08/11/2021 14:20

@Kanaloa

How weird. I think I’d have wanted to follow her saying sorry sorry for eating crisps. What am I allowed to eat please? Is it ok if I have a croissant?
Did she specify the correct time to break out the crisps?
FatCatThinCat · 08/11/2021 14:22

Huh? Crisps have time restrictions on them? I never knew that. No monster munch for breakfast anymore then.

hibye123 · 08/11/2021 14:22

Very glad I'm not the one who was being unreasonable! Some of the responses here have made me laugh so much😂 I couldn't even think of anything witty or smart to say back, I just wanted to enjoy my bloody Squares in peace😡

Does anybody else REALLY want some salt and vinegar squares now?

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 08/11/2021 14:24

If it is too early to eat crisps it is too early to deal with rude people politely! I would have told her to f off

hibye123 · 08/11/2021 14:24

@SickAndTiredAgain

I had salt and vinegar crisps at 9am today as they are the only thing that take away that horrible pregnancy taste in my mouth. Makes me feel so sick otherwise, but the crisps fix it.

She was rude, and it would have been rude even if you weren’t pregnant.

Yes this is exactly it. I hate that stale taste I have all day everyday, it's so ridiculous. Only thing that gets rid of it for a short amount of time are Salt & Vinegar crisps or Orange juice lol!

Nah she’s a dick who should mind her own business. I had the same when I ordered a milky frappe thing at 8am to soothe my heartburn. Some guy felt the need to pass comment, I asked if he’d been 8 months pregnant with heartburn? If not then he doesn’t get an opinion.

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2021 14:28

Eh? She didn't know you hadn't had breakfast - crisps are a perfect mid morning snack. It was hardly 6am. That would be too early for salt and vinegar crisps Wink
