I was on my way to an appointment with the Midwife this morning around 10:30am.

I was running late because I was feeding DD and didn't have time for any breakfast. Left to get the bus and grabbed a pack of Salt and Vinegar Squares from Sainsbury's and ate it at the bus stop once I had gotten off the bus.

Minding my business eating my Squares and some woman comes up to me saying 'you shouldn't be eating crisps at this time of the day'Hmm I told her I'm pregnant and I'll eat whatever I want when I want. She then said I was rude and unfit to be mum and went about her day!

AIBU in thinking she's actually the rude one coming up to me telling me off as if I'm her 5 year old child lolConfused

No that's really rude. I bet you were perplexed.
She's probably jealous because you are pregnant. I kid you not.

A friend of mine has a police puppy in training. He is only 5 months and still quite slim but the police do check up on their dogs and he is a weight that he should be at his age. A man appeared from nowhere and asked if he could stroke the dog,, she said yes. Then in turned into a thing demented and started shouting and saying this dog is underweight and wanted to know her name and address to report her to the authorities. I might add there is nothing that makes it apparent that he is a police dog in training. Of course she just kept walking and ignored him.

@Dnaltocs

Malvarosa - I agree that it’s an age and also a class issue. Eating and drinking anything outdoors is still, in some circles, considered the height of bad manners. (Eating on public transport is a no no and considered to be the height of bad manners and insulting to other passengers) Don’t know why you were considered a potentially bad mother. If parents/teachers haven’t explained this then why would op know. Times change.
When I was in the Girl Guides (many, many decades ago) we were taken for a day out, whilst on Camp, and were allowed to wander round in small groups. Before we dispersed, the Guider told us that, under NO circumstances were we to eat anything, even an ice cream, whilst walking around - we HAD to sit down.

It baffled me - I'd never thought it was a bad thing to do, and still don't. I do think of that Guider, whenever I have an ice cream on a day out, though!

When I was pregnant with my first; I was walking into a shop and a middle-aged woman turned to her teen daughter and muttered (under her breath) "Look at that; another teenage pregnancy!"
I was 21, engaged to a partner that I'd been with for 2 years and the baby was planned. I really wish I'd told her to mind her own business at the time but I was soo shocked that she would say that out loud.
People just love to have an opinion on anything and everything. You were right to attempt to put her in her place. Why can't people just leave other people alone. She was - unfortunately - entitled to her opinion but she didn't have to say it out loud.
I hope you enjoyed your squares - love those! 😋

I know I'm late to the party, but I really want some salt and vinegar squares now...and some cheese and onion discos. She would have been fuming at me with my grab bag of Wotsits a couple of weeks ago. I would have given her a lovely cheesy wotsits smile. They stick to my teeth terrible and make me speak all clacky. She would have have been raging!

Some people's sole mission in life is to tell others how they should behave, think, speak and otherwise conform to some standard.

Pity them, they only draw energy from harassing others.

@Justmuddlingalong

It would appear that you met my mother. 😁
Are you my sister?! 😆

I had someone tell me off on the underground because I was sat on one of the seats with my legs crossed (not like a child would sit on the floor btw - just one leg draped over the other as many people do) I was so taken aback by it. He told me it was bad for my circulation and that it would give me a heart attack eventually. It didn't really bother me at first but then he said something like 'it's common sense you know...' ... for some reason that comment got my back up. So random.

I spent 25 years as a secondary teacher.

More than once I’ve had to stop myself telling someone to take off their hat.

verandina · 11/11/2021 17:36

She must be completely crazy. Who does that?

Yes of course she is rude! YANBU!

Some things in life are clear cut. This is one of them.

tiredinoratia · 12/11/2021 04:23

You may have met my mother - her favorite (uninvited) comments and opinions always start with "xxxx, at this time? - I wouldn't do that".
