Cleaner stole clothes?

Got a new jacket that I left hanging on a chair (as far as I recall). New cleaner came, cleaned and tidied. Now I can’t find my jacket.

I’m reluctant to jump to conclusions but this is an item of clothing so not easily mislaid (like a piece of jewellery). I haven’t worn this jacket out yet. DP and I have both turned the house upside down but can’t find it. It’s a branded sports jacket (think Puma, Nike etc) so not particularly designer/valuable. I’ve considered texting the cleaner to ask if she’s seen it as well but I’d sound really stupid not knowing where stuff is in my own house!

AIBU to wonder whether she had something to do with it? Although it sounds like a strange thing to steak I see no other option. Nobody else has been in my house since.

Also to add - I don’t know whether this quite makes sense as she seemed to know nothing about it when I asked but she might not have clocked it… idk

No way!!!!!! How did she not realise when she picked her coat up?!? You know how heavy your own coat is!
PlanktonsComputerWife · 13/11/2021 10:34

I imagine it would be totally easy to do, esp if your coat was lightweight (as it seemed to be from your description).

Glad it has been found!

I kept this thread on my watchlist in case of an update. Me thinks the cleaner is on mumsnet and thought keeping it wasn't worth it.

Or it was a mistake as she said.

You decide.Grin

Bit strange that she didn't put her coat on when she left, and then left it in her car for days, but that's probably me because when I was a cleaner, if I didn't physically put my coat on when I left I would definitely walk out without it Grin

Snoopsnoggysnog · 13/11/2021 10:47

I think this is feasible. I have a very small light weight coat and I’m constantly losing it in the house as someone will put a heavier coat on top of it.

Fernando072020 · 13/11/2021 10:50

I actually think this is possible! We've all misplaced things by doing shit like that! The amount of times I've picked up an item with something else then couldn't find the item.

Benefit of the doubt I'd say.

The car was parked a few feet away from the front door and she’d been in and out with various things - so when she left she probably dumped her coat in along with everything else.

I feel really honoured to be on your watchlist! 😎

I think it was probably a mistake because the jacket was very lightweight and I asked her about it a few days later - so she might not have remembered what she’d thrown her coat over.

Of course this was all have been resolved if she’d worn the coat instead of keeping it in her car but oh well.

My husband did the same with my jacket.
He works away.
When he left he accidentally picked up both
Didn't put his own on just put it in car
Didn't know he had mine until he came to wear the coat. I hadn't missed it because the weather changed and I needed a heavier one

A mistake -why wouldn’t it be?
MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/11/2021 07:08

oh great, alls well that ends well, how embarrassing for her

Halfwreckedbykids · 20/11/2021 08:40

Years ago I had a cleaner...she took 3 suits, jumpers and shoes from me...I mean a lot. I texted to ask if she'd seen them as I couldn't find them and wanted to wear them away with work.
Shed taken them home to clean them.
Odd as anything...she didn't need to go that far with her job and I never expect her to do outside her hours.
Well fishy...took 3 weeks to get them back as she kept forgetting them.
