She’s 52…!

Tess Daly..had no idea, how amazing does she look for 52, ten years older than me. Just been reading she had her girls later in life too, they just don’t look like an ‘In their 50’s family’ 🤷🏻‍♀️
Are we all living longer nowadays? Is 50 actually the new 40 and 40 the new 30?

@mandes1

I am 50 and get told I look much younger all the time. Usually 30ish, although a couple of weeks ago a client thought I was in my twenties!

I am black and people often say black people age at a slower rate. Not in every case obviously x

Black don't crack as they say. I've also heard that among white people those of us who are pale age faster as we have even thinner skin. I suppose it could also be more sun damage.
LittleDandelionClock · 31/10/2021 11:14
@LittleDandelionClock I'm not denying she's an attractive woman but by god she is smug and annoying !! I agree with you about the jealousy comments too!
Maybe a bit smug Grin

ChocolateGingers · 31/10/2021 11:29

Women on telly have a limited timespan.

Unless they are funny, comic, brilliant actors, they get shuffled off.

TD will be spending a very long time making sure she looks good. It will almost be a full time job just maintaining her looks.

Let's be honest- she's not exactly talented. She's loud, overdoes her Northern accent for effect, and very tall with blonde hair. It's a type.

thepeopleversuswork · 31/10/2021 11:38

Meh

I hate "she looks great for her age". Makes me see red.

Plenty of women of all ages and stages look great. The fact that we still have to express surprise that a woman looks attractive because she's, shock, horror, over 50! appalls me.

Get some self respect, all of you.

Cherryana · 31/10/2021 11:44

I think she gives me hope that I will look as good at 50 and the visuals that it’s possible - with a lot of water, exercise and some tweakments.

Another stunner is Dannii Minogue. Have you seen her recently- she looks amazing!!

LittleDandelionClock · 31/10/2021 11:46

You are right @ChocolateGingers Women get booted off when they start to 'age' or not look how the media think they should. Hmm

Arlene Phillips got booted off Strictly Come Dancing, in favour of the much younger Alesha Dixon, and now Clare Balding has been replaced too (on A Question of Sport.) Even Fern Britton was replaced by Holly Willoughby, because Fern was getting 'too old ... 'Sad

Not so quick to replace the men funnily enough. Hmm I see Phil bloody Schofiled is still presenting This Morning. Oh but he is a 'silver fox.' Men become dashing and handsome silver foxes as they age; women just get old and should not be seen on TV!..... Hmm

LittleDandelionClock · 31/10/2021 11:47

Re @Paddingtonthebear's comments, I agree Grace Jones looks good, and as has been said, some black people tend to not age as fast, and can look a bit younger than their white counterparts of the same age. But even then, they still don't look HUGELY younger than their age. Grace does not look 73, but she doesn't look 40 either. I would guess her at early to mid 60s...

Sinitta is another black celeb who looks good, and younger than her age, and is very pretty, but again, not massively younger, maybe 8 years or so. She is 58, but could pass for 49-50.

Also, another celeb who looks good IMO is Davina McCall. Very pretty, and always looks fab! She is 54, and could easily pass for 44-45. Again though, although she looks younger, she doesn't look MANY YEARS younger.

And I have to say, once again, that nobody looks more than 8-10 years younger than their age, not when you look properly. And I agree with a pp that even when someone has sun-tanned too much, and smoked for 30-35 years, they still look roughly their age. They will not look 20+ years older as a pp said.

However, a 45 y.o. woman who has smoked since she was 17 (and maybe used a few sunbeds in her time,) will probably looks 50-52, and a 45 y.o. woman who has never smoked or used a sunbed will look 39. SO by that token, someone who has smoked for 30-35 years or more, (and/or who has used a sunbed a lot in their youth) will look 10-12 years older than someone else of their age.

They will ALL look no more than 8-10 years or so younger - or older - than their real age though. (The vast VAST majority of people anyway!)

No-one looks 80 when they're in their late 50s as someone said earlier, just because they are a smoker. They will just look a bit more tired, with drier skin, and extra lines and wrinkles, and may look 62-64, when they are in their late 50s, but they won't look bloody 80.

Nor will someone who takes great care of themselves end up looking 60 y.o at 80! Although oddly, when people hit 80-85, the ageing process seems to slow down massively, as I have seen 95 year olds who don't look much different to an 82 year old. Again though, they still look very elderly..

This. Look at Moira Stuart. Stunningly beautiful but still considered too old to read the news at 57.

CounsellorTroi · 31/10/2021 11:55

I’m 60. Never smoked, never been a sunbather (I don’t tan) but I still think I could pass for 55 at the youngest.

milkyaqua · 31/10/2021 12:14

And I have to say, once again, that nobody looks more than 8-10 years younger than their age, not when you look properly.

You seem very certain of that, as some sort of fact, and yet a few hours ago you stated, with equal certainty:

In fact everyone looks their age within about 5 years.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2021 12:19

This woman looks more than 10 years younger, I'd say. Yes, she has wrinkles on her neck, but fewer than I at 15 years younger than her.

I see you have led a sheltered life.

milkyaqua · 31/10/2021 12:26

Here's the actual quote:

"Well, clearly that is not the case. Some people in their 50s, c/- lifestyle - stress, smoking, sunbathing, drink, drugs, whatever - look in their 60s or 70s. Some people in their mid or late 60s look 80 and some look as if they are in their early 60s or late 50s."

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2021 12:28

Anyone can look younger when they have the money to do so, so she doesn't particularly impress me.

I think I agree with milk. I lived in a deprived area and people looked 'rough' but you could still somehow see that they looked wrinkled and haggard for their age because of a hard life or smoking rather than that they actually appeared to be 80.

You should have seen some of the women on 'Ten years Younger'.

Some of them who smoked and or sun-worshipped looked as old as my Mum in her mid 80s, yet they were hardly 50.

Lightisnotwhite · 31/10/2021 13:32

Clearly you can see “lifestyle” reflected in a face. Kate Moss smokes, drinks and likes a sunny holiday but presumably her cushion of wealth helps her out in the looks department.

TheVolturi · 31/10/2021 14:32
**@lollipoprainbow* and @TheVolturi* I thought Holly Willoughby looked fucking gorgeous on This Morning, in her red dress! And I like her. I think your comments about her are a bit harsh.

Each to their own...

I have to say though, I do think it's pathetic when a woman says she doesn't like another woman for whatever reason, and she is called jealous/bitter/an old hag etc. It's a bit of a naff and predictable cliché.

Don't like Tess Daly or Holly Willoughby? Ooooh, you must be jealous, and obviously ugly as well. Grow up! Hmm
I didn't say she didn't look good! She always looks nice, but fuck me is she full of herself!

Yes, but she obviously has good genes as well.
Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2021 15:20

"She always looks nice, but fuck me is she full of herself!"

I'd be full of myself if I was her.

Longdistance · 31/10/2021 15:22

Arlene Philips is 78. She looks cracking for her age.
Kate Moss is pickled.

lollipoprainbow · 31/10/2021 15:25

@Gwenhwyfar would you or maybe would you try and have a bit of humility instead of flaunting your perfect life at every opportunity ??!

IcedPurple · 31/10/2021 15:31

Tess Daly was/is a model so she has an obvious genetic advantage in terms of being tall, thin and photogenic.

Plus, as others have said, her looks are her job, and she has considerable resources to dedicate to looking as good as possible. So she can't be compared in any way to your 'average' woman.

Even allowing for all that, I do think she looks a lot younger and could easily pass for early 40s.

ufucoffee · 31/10/2021 15:36

Tess has always been beautiful. She's been on the cover of vogue when she was a model. She has money, time and good genes. All those things help you look younger than your age

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 31/10/2021 16:06

@Longdistance

Arlene Philips is 78. She looks cracking for her age. Kate Moss is pickled.
I think what makes Arlene Phillips so youthful are the decades of dancing and the continued fitness. She's in her late 70s and is lithe and limber and moves like a woman decades younger, and that gives an impression of youth. More so than a tight jawline and a smooth forehead.

Which reminds me, must get back to pilates!
