She’s 52…!

Tess Daly..had no idea, how amazing does she look for 52, ten years older than me. Just been reading she had her girls later in life too, they just don’t look like an ‘In their 50’s family’ 🤷🏻‍♀️
Are we all living longer nowadays? Is 50 actually the new 40 and 40 the new 30?

Most people look within 5 years of their age if you look at them properly.

Although I must say Sir David Attenborough is doing well for 95. If someone told you he was 75 it's believable.

ChocolateGingers · 31/10/2021 08:47

There is a HUGE variation in how women (and men) look for their age.

I am (not boasting) often queried about my age because I am over 60 and have concessions for entry to places. Once I was in a queue and it was quite embarrassing as the asst thought I was asking for concessions for my children.

So, I can be judged as around 45 even though I am early 60s.

There are some women who have fixed concepts of what 50 or 60 looks like.

You've got to acknowledge that people who make a living from being on TV will have help.

-Usually, they are pretty to start with (which is why they got the telly job in the first place.)
-They take care of their appearances.
-They have help from hairdressers, stylists, cosmetic drs, (fillers, Botox, all the stuff that is out there) dentists etc.

I've looked at lots of photos of Tess after reading this thread.

I reckon she has had lip fillers, teeth whitening and maybe more.

However, if you look at photos of her where she's not made up for TV shows, she looks her age. She has a lot of lines around her eyes and her cheeks are very lined at the sides when she's smiling. She looks like someone of 52 who invests a lot in grooming, has a pretty face, and is tall.

LifesABotch · 31/10/2021 08:48

Tess always looks sensational 🤩!

Bluesheep8 · 31/10/2021 08:52

My DD would have been named Tess .... if it hadn't been for Tess Daley!

Why did Tess Daley stop you naming your daughter Tess?

Fizbosshoes · 31/10/2021 08:59

As for ID for alcohol, a lot of cashier's don't really look closely, so especially if you're petite they will ask automatically without looking at your face.

I'm v short. I was asked for ID when buying a bottle of beer the other day. I was quite taken aback. I was wearing a mask but my crows feet would have been visible. 🤣Another time I was asked by a young cashier who looked about 18 himself. I'm pretty sure he was a trainee and only asked me, because he wanted to do everything "by the book"

Kevinishot · 31/10/2021 09:04

I think the reason she looks younger is because she still has a good waist. Most women get bigger round the middle when they get towards 50 - even thin ones. It automatically makes you look middle aged. It happened to me in lockdown last year & it seriously gave me ‘mid 50s’ body when I’m in my mid 40s. It was really depressing. I’ve since lost the weight (bloody hard work) but look far less middle aged again (body wise, face doesn’t look any younger!)
If you imagine Tess/Helen (I love that… it’s so much less glamorous) with an extra stone around her middle, she would definitely look more like 52. She’s in extremely good shape & must have to watch her diet like a hawk.

Some incredibly jealous and bitter replies on here

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 31/10/2021 09:09

I am told I look younger I really don't people are being nice. Also I am very chatty and bubbly that makes people thibk I am younger I think.
Ultimately though most people are just polite.

mandes1 · 31/10/2021 09:20

JaninaDuszejko I think you summed it up really.

MapleMay11 · 31/10/2021 09:22

Most people I know would knock at least a decade off when told to guess someone's age for fear of causing offence, so you can guarantee anyone who's told they look 10 years younger looks their actual age. People generally want to be kind and really don't look too closely.

caravanman · 31/10/2021 09:22

Yes, Tess looks 'good' in all her publicity photos and on TV. There are one or two photos of her without make up, and these do show her looking like a woman in her fifties. As someone stated, it is her job to look glamorous and young.

I know I might sound bitchy, but I find Tess's appearance, like that of Amanda Holden and other 'beautiful' celebrities, pretty insipid. They are too artificial, to stereotypically 'glamorous' (tall, blonde, curvaceous, flashing white smiles). I would like to see more beautiful black people, beautiful Asian people, beautiful disabled people, or better still, people who are not 'beautiful' at all, but who are charming, funny and empathetic as the hosts of some of these shows.

RiverSkater · 31/10/2021 09:23

@carpetbugs

Same for the Beckhams and his gazillion other kids not by VB

They have been hacked as part of the Graff virtual heist.

What other kids? That's just gossip mongering. It would be public knowledge!!
52andblue · 31/10/2021 09:43

@operatinginstructions

I'm the same age as Tess, I imagine it is easier to look good when you are operating in her world.

In my world my alarm goes off at 5:34am and I don't sit down until 8pm. Single parent, professional job.

Gym membership I struggle to use Mon-Fri because I'm at work or knackered.

She has stylists, time generally, but to invest in her health/appearance/help etc., etc..

Not saying that she doesn't look good - she does, but I reckon a lot of us would look good with her means/work-life balance.

Exactly. Genetically I could never look like Tess. But, in my 20's I was (now I look back) quite pretty. Now I look much older than my age. My alarm goes at 6.30. I am a full time Carer for two ASD kids. I get about 4 Respite days a year. It is what it is. But boy, it shows.
Paddingtonthebear · 31/10/2021 09:59

'How does Tess Daly look so good, is she really 51?' Confused

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3937917-How-does-Tess-Daly-look-so-good

I am beginning to wonder now, if the person posting this type of thread about Tess, is one of her publicity team? Or her agent, or her mum? Wink

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2021 10:49

"In my world my alarm goes off at 5:34am and I don't sit down until 8pm. Single parent, professional job."

I work 34 hous and have no children. I don't look anything like Tess.
OK, I don't have the money or the know-how...

LittleDandelionClock · 31/10/2021 10:52

@lollipoprainbow and @TheVolturi I thought Holly Willoughby looked fucking gorgeous on This Morning, in her red dress! And I like her. I think your comments about her are a bit harsh.

Each to their own...

I have to say though, I do think it's pathetic when a woman says she doesn't like another woman for whatever reason, and she is called jealous/bitter/an old hag etc. It's a bit of a naff and predictable cliché.

Don't like Tess Daly or Holly Willoughby? Ooooh, you must be jealous, and obviously ugly as well. Grow up! Hmm

She’s 52…!
lollipoprainbow · 31/10/2021 10:59

@LittleDandelionClock I'm not denying she's an attractive woman but by god she is smug and annoying !! I agree with you about the jealousy comments too!

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2021 11:01

"Most people don't really look at other people very closely. So if you dress younger, colour and style your hair in a young style and move in a quick supple manner a lot of people will register you as being younger than you are."

Depends on the situation. On TV with closeups you have time to look. On the bus, well if they have white hair you give up your seat. You don't analyse the wrinkles and sagging to determine whether the person is old enough to give up your seat for.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2021 11:05

@BiLuminous

You can eat a healthy diet, exercise and look good if you want. You don't need money to do that.

I don't personally because I'm a big lazy shit.

Eating healthily and dieting will not completely stop wrinkles. It's the botox and fillers that do that. And other techniques for sagging I suppose. If someone looks young without all that, it will be mainly genetic. I don't think it's worth stopping being a big lazy sit for as I doubt you'd be able to make a huge difference.
Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2021 11:09

"I have lived in my current home for 10 years, and met/spoke to about 150 different people in the area in that time. Not ONCE has anyone asked my age."

I find that a bit strange. In the UK it's not considered polite to ask a woman her age, but people still do and it's quite a normal question to ask someone as you get to know them. A friend even asked me last night as she'd forgotten. I live on the continent and we were discussing what kind of television was available when people were young. When I said 3 channels that made me seem very old to them so they asked how old I was, or maybe they skirted around it in the hope I would say - I can't remember the exact words.

Do you live in a culture where talking about age is strictly taboo because otherwise it's quite strange that nobody has every asked you.
