To not want to eat in Wetherspoons?

giveitarestplease · 27/10/2021 23:13

Popped out with BIL and OH today, I absolutely despise Wetherspoons but they love a bargain and aren't too fussy.

I'm not a snob in anyway shape or form I just can't stand it. I eventually went with them and sat in there and waited until they finished.

I just hate the old dirty pubs and how fast the rancid food comes out 🤢 the alcoholics that have been sat there since the moment they opened the doors on the morning.

I'd much rather go to one of our local independent cafes and have a nice lunch and I know it's not coming out of the microwave. I know it's not the same price bracket but you know what I mean.

They always laugh and joke and call me a snob and say I think I'm better than everyone else. But I'm really not and I don't think that.

Sorry but you sound like a snob who thinks you're better than everyone else.

TimeForTeaAndG · 27/10/2021 23:18

I'm with you. Though I also now don't frequent Wethersoons because Tim whatshisname is a dickhead who doesn't deserve my hard earned cash.

JessCat75 · 27/10/2021 23:18

You are most definitely coming across as a snob, and if you don't want to eat there speak up.

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/10/2021 23:19

Not everyone else. Just the ones who think Wetherspoons is good.

I did speak up but they want to eat there so I sit with them. I'm not a snob I'm far from it infact! I just don't enjoy the atmosphere or the food. Think my mum and dad would die a bit inside if they seen me eating in there 🤣

Nope, I agree. Just don’t like cheap food and would prefer to support an independent business while eating decent food. That doesn’t make you a snob though many people will think you are.

waterlego · 27/10/2021 23:22

I wouldn’t choose to eat in Wetherspoons either, unless I was desperate. I would sit in there and have a pint with someone while they were eating though, and might have a portion of chips if I was peckish.

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 27/10/2021 23:24

Where the hell did you go? All the Wetherspoons I've been to are not like this, or are you exaggerating a tad to get your point across?

PurpleDaisies · 27/10/2021 23:25

You just sat there watching them eat?

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 27/10/2021 23:25

Some of us want to eat somewhere other than McDonald's that we can actually afford, and it's also a pub, so I can have a cider. Our group of the Tolkien Society meet there and I can take the kids, who really enjoy the food.

Technosaurus · 27/10/2021 23:25

If they want to go to a Wetherspoons I have a funny feeling they're not there for the food.

THATs why they don't give a shit about your hoity toity café plan. They want a pint and a laugh rather than a load of sneering snobby remarks over the latest sourdough toast fad.

Fwiw I'm a drinker but have boycotted Wetherspoons for years due to Tim Martin. Regardless of my political persuasions, there are plenty of good folk who go there for an agreeable pint and a reasonably priced meal. Good luck to them.

BurscoughBooths · 27/10/2021 23:25

I refuse to set foot inside Wetherspoons. I don’t care if that makes me a snob, that brexit supporting hypocritical tosser is not getting a penny from me.

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 27/10/2021 23:26

Hmm, wonder where you got your snobbishness views from? 🤨

Pottedpalm · 27/10/2021 23:27

I agree; Weatherspoons is the pits. I wouldn't go. Just go to a cafe on your own to eat and meet them afterwards, or not.

TyrannosaurusRights · 27/10/2021 23:27

Why not let them go to the pub and you go to a nice cafe and just arrange to meet up after? Everyone gets what they want. Everyone happy.

TotallySuper · 27/10/2021 23:28

OP I totally agree and it doesn't make you a snob at all.

kittenkipping · 27/10/2021 23:28

I dislike Wetherspoons , the owner is filth and the ethos fucked. However. It isn't slop. It's just micro meals. I don't want to financially support spoons but, in a pinch, and to avoid offence I'd eat something. Lasagne? Cottage pie (don't know the menu as haven't been in for decades) something that is bland, known for being okay reheated, popular ready meal type shit. To sit, sour faced watching your company eat, it comes across as judgemental and yes, snobby. Surely a bowl of chips wouldn't be sickening?

FluffyBooBoo · 27/10/2021 23:29

I'm not a fan of Wetherspoons because of Tim Martin - but the food is not 'rancid'. You might not like it, but that doesn't mean it's inedible.

You must be in an 'interesting' area based on your description of the clientele. They are certainly not all like that.

Medicaltextbook · 27/10/2021 23:30

Fair enough not to want to want to go to Wetherspoons, in which case speak up early or just say for OH and bil to go. However your phrase rancid food and the fact you ate nothing sound snobbish to me.

It won’t be prepared in the same way as some local cafes, though I know that microwave as well. However I haven’t heard reports of rancid food (not saying there are never issues but there are in small places as well.)

ChaToilLeam · 27/10/2021 23:30

I am not averse to a nice plate of scampi and chips, and Weatherspoons do that at a good price. I won’t go there now because the man is such a dickhead, but have gone in the past. Sorry, you do sound snooty. Not everyone’s pocket book reaches to something more fancy.

Fairyfalls · 27/10/2021 23:31

The pizzas are so nice! Give them a try with an unlimited coffee refill for about £7. Sometimes I so sit in there thinking if only I had more money to go somewhere indeoendent but on a budget its OK.

PurpleDaisies · 27/10/2021 23:32

I’ve just looked at the menu and there seem plenty of inoffensive options. How bad can a cheese and tomato panini really be?

Medicaltextbook · 27/10/2021 23:33

What have your parents got to do with this?

giveitarestplease · 27/10/2021 23:34

I'm not rich by the way I don't have large pockets! My parents are Caribbean and they have never really eaten out at places unless they really have too. Wetherspoons isn't classed as "good food" to them. I guess I'm that way because of them.

@PurpleDaisies I had a bite of OH bbq chicken panini it was horrible. But maybe I am super fussy.
