Asked to leave for not wearing a mask

DuchessOfDisaster · 16/10/2021 11:11

I've just gone to my book group meeting. I'm mask exempt, and have a cold. Not COVID, we test twice a week at work. I was asked to wear a mask and as I didn't have one offered to leave. The other members said they thought that was best.

It's silly but I feel miffed! Even though I think it's the right thing!

So you offered to leave? Misleading title

fuckitbucket16 · 16/10/2021 11:15

If there’s anything good to come out of this, I hope it’s that people continue to wear masks in public when they’re sick.

Honestly, no one wants your cold either.

StoneofDestiny · 16/10/2021 11:15

Turning up to a book club with a cold might not have been a smart move.

ExtraOnions · 16/10/2021 11:15

Never mind COVID, I wouldn’t want someone with a Cold sat next to me either …. Keep your germs to yourself

Lazypuppy · 16/10/2021 11:16

If you didn't have a cold then i wpuld have said YANBU, as masks aren't mandatory anymore

However, with a cold YABU

Scautish · 16/10/2021 11:16

I would have wanted you there, mask or not, if you had a cold. Very selfish of you.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 16/10/2021 11:18

I wouldn't want your cold - you should have stayed at home. It takes me ages to shake off a cold and it enrages me if I am forced into close contact with someone who has one.

MalagaNights · 16/10/2021 11:18

I'd rather we had a culture of if you have a cold stay home rather than mask wearing.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 16/10/2021 11:18

Personally I wouldn’t have turned up with a cold. It might be just a cold to you, how do you know your fellow bookclubbers don’t get badly effected? I am asthmatic, colds knock me out and make my asthma worse.

anon12345678901 · 16/10/2021 11:18

Why on earth would you turn up with a cold? Do you really think people would enjoy getting it? Such a selfish move.

Asleanna · 16/10/2021 11:19

When you say testing twice a week for work, I assume that's lateral flow? In which case, not good enough with symptoms. Either way, I'm not really mixing much with a cold at the moment as I think it's unnecessary to spread germs unless it's vital (work)

pianolessons1 · 16/10/2021 11:20

Mask exempt? For what reason? The vast majority of people who claim mask exemption to me (I'm an HCP with full access to their notes) it's BS.

CatJumperTwat · 16/10/2021 11:20

I hope this is a reverse...

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2021 11:20

I'm mask exempt

I was asked to wear a mask and as I didn't have one offered to leave.

So which is it? Confused

RoomOfRequirement · 16/10/2021 11:21

They were not being unreasonable not wanting you there.

They get your cold. Then suddenly they have to isolate, test and miss work as well as feeling lousy with a cold.

I really hope it becomes less socially acceptable to do some things with a cold (I know there are places of work we couldn't have everyone out with a cold, but book club? Definitely miss it)

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2021 11:21

And yes, why on earth did you turn up with a cold in the first place?

It's not like going to work where you just have to get on with it at times, to earn a living.

PinkFizz1 · 16/10/2021 11:21

Absolutely this!
MiddlesexGirl · 16/10/2021 11:21

A cold is not symptoms.
However it's difficult to wear a mask when you've got a cold as it turns into a snot rag.
On that basis you should have stayed at home.

Helspopje · 16/10/2021 11:22

I am in no way surprised

Glitterblue · 16/10/2021 11:23

Misleading title...you offered to leave.
I wouldn't have gone in the first place with a cold.

SerendipitySunshine · 16/10/2021 11:23

Going out with a cold is antisocial.

Ponoka7 · 16/10/2021 11:23

If you are mask exempt, even when sitting down for a couple of hours, then be really conscious of not being well. There's some really nasty cold viruses going around that would wipe some people out. My DD, 23, really healthy has just had it. She can't afford to miss work.

It's a total dick move to go to a group meeting with a cold. Just give it a miss for one week.

This. Totally. Thanks for saying it @fuckitbucket16

One of my kids had a cold a month ago, and has Covid now. She was far more ill with the cold.

Nobody wants your cold!
