Men on Mumsnet!

AnnieSnap · 14/10/2021 18:42

AIBU to wonder why some men are on Mumsnet? I don’t have strong feelings about it, I’m not anti-men and the posts from men I have come across on here have all been fine, but it just strikes me as odd that these reasonable men would become a part of an obviously women’s forum. Sleazy men, it would make sense, but decent blokes?

OP posts:

Because they are allowed.

Booboosweet · 14/10/2021 18:43

I think it's fine. They're interested in all the same topics we are and just want to chat.

CorrBlimeyGG · 14/10/2021 18:44

It's not a women's forum. It is focused on issues that are more relevant to women, but why shouldn't men contribute?

CaptainMerica · 14/10/2021 18:44

It's a parenting forum, not one for women.

Moonface123 · 14/10/2021 18:45

There are many single and widowed dads.

Somuddled · 14/10/2021 18:45

Eh?

TheReluctantPhoenix · 14/10/2021 18:45

Mumsnet is, according to their own strap line, ‘by parents for parents’.

I find it stranger to see non parents on a parenting forum.

GoWalkabout · 14/10/2021 18:45

It's a big busy popular forum and everyone is welcome.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 14/10/2021 18:46

Should they just stick to dadsnet? Like gransnet, is it not a pretty dead forum?

steff13 · 14/10/2021 18:47

Stop discussing non parental stuff and we will happily bugger off 😁

I just imagine they’re all like Kevin from Motherland. He’s definitely a Mumsnetter Grin

2typesofjungle · 14/10/2021 18:49

I think you have to be pretty simple to believe that all men and all women have the same thoughts and opinions on things. Some men like fashion, some women do. Some men like cars, some women do.
We all have different interests that are not ruled by our genitalia.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/10/2021 18:49

It's not the men who declare themselves as men that are the problem. Their motivation is probably the same as any women's... it's an easy and active site and useful to fill time.
It's the ones who post as a woman and wants to canvass the women on MN for the hairiness of their nipples or some such bollocks and perversion to get the rocks off - they need to fuck off.

Yes, why is Dadsnet so dead?

Maybe in the very early days of MN you may have had a point but it is now a general chat forum covering so many subjects.
Even now that my kids are old and I'm not 'parenting' them any more MN is addictive (too much so at times!)
The forums I visit the most are food and recipes, chat, Aibu( obviously!) ,travel and chat.

MelKarnofskyCrane · 14/10/2021 18:54

Even the ones who post “man here” ? Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 14/10/2021 18:55

Well, at least you see them coming Grin

TillyDevon · 14/10/2021 18:57

I like having men on Mumsnet as they always seem polite and bring another perspective. Also admire Pigletjohn (?) who seems incredibly generous at helping with so many practical conundrums I’m sure he could charge for doing such a helpful job !

Ah this is a slight variation on 'why are childfree women on here' Hmm

Because they can?

Pythonista · 14/10/2021 18:59

@IWillFindYou

Yes, why is Dadsnet so dead?

Mostly cause men don’t care that much about parenting etc stuff.

Most comments men have here are to tell all men watch porn, give sex to your husband, women do it too, namalt and that old/overweight women are gross.
That pretty much sums up what men on average have to contribute.

Fair play - you clearly have psychic abilities to know which are male and female
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 14/10/2021 19:00

"Why are men on Mumsnet"
Again.
Must be Thursday.
Look at the tagline.
By parents for parents

Actually, did you know there are lots of posters on here who aren't even parents?! Shock

It's a forum on the internet, not a club with restricted membership.

You've no idea who's on here anyway. Anyone can say they're a mum, a dad, a grandparent, a unicorn...

Most of the topics have bugger all to do with bring a parent anyway.
