Zarah Sultana MP has reported that today The Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire Phill Abbott has said that Sarah Everard should have ‘resisted arrest’ and that women need to be more ‘street smart’.

Victim blaming her and other women effectively.

Yes he should and Cressida Dick with her glib “we get the occasional “bad’un”” comment. Appalling comments.

thaegumathteth · 01/10/2021 21:18

Yes he should absolutely resign or be fired and I'm not normally one to say that easily but what he has said is unforgivable.

Dragonpox · 01/10/2021 21:20

I was just saying to DH how impossible it would have been for Sarah to challenge him, even if there is a new guideline to suggest you can call to check etc. He is a predator. If she'd resisted or questioned (maybe she did?) then he'd have had a work around to get what he wanted Sad

Orangejuicemarathoner · 01/10/2021 21:20

agreed

Kendodd · 01/10/2021 21:20

Yes, his victim blaming attitude speaks volumes.
He won't resign though.
Even ministers breaking the ministerial code don't resign.

Getyourownback · 01/10/2021 21:21

I almost started my own thread about this earlier, but I found the victim-blaming so utterly draining and totally unsurprising I just couldn’t muster the energy. I am so fed up.

Rainbowqueeen · 01/10/2021 21:21

Yes he should go
I hope her family have not seen his comments. Can you imagine how that would make them feel

CreationVacation · 01/10/2021 21:23

He should be sacked. It’s victim blaming. Imagine how Sarah’s family will feel reading that, it’s unforgivable.

DrManhattan · 01/10/2021 21:23

Yes, disgusting comment

DamnUserName21 · 01/10/2021 21:23

Prick!

StoneofDestiny · 01/10/2021 21:24

Does Johnson sack anyone ever?

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/10/2021 21:25

I heard this on 6 o clock News. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Bastard. Did he not give a second’s thought for Sarah’s family?

Resign? Should be sacked.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 01/10/2021 21:26

Phill Abbott doesn't see it at all. He doesn't see that it's not about women changing their behaviour- we do that all the time.

CreationVacation · 01/10/2021 21:26

X post Rainbowqueeen. My first thought when I read it was her poor family having to read it. I’m sure they are feeling so many emotions at the moment and they just don’t need to read things like that coming from the police.

Leibham · 01/10/2021 21:26

@Getyourownback

Yea understood, it’s all so tiring and draining. Really hope too the family haven’t seen it.

@StoneofDestiny

Nah he doesn’t mind any of that.

Agreed, his comments were appalling. The advice from Met Police is also shocking and an absolute joke, Cressida Dick should be ashamed of herself. Is this the best the Met can come up with? They have known for months what happened and had time to formulate a strategy to protect women. They haven’t even suspended their officers in the WhatsApp group with the perpetrator, they’re still at work.

AppleKatie · 01/10/2021 21:29

That is appalling.

If she had ‘resisted arrest’ he would have just assaulted her in public further? He handcuffed her? What does this imbecile imagine she could have done?

What a horrific and disgusting thing to say. The answer isn’t for women to learn how to resist arrest it is for men to stop fucking attacking us.

It’s such dangerous advice- how long until a women is assaulted by a genuine police officer for refusing to come quietly? That will be her fault too.

SomebodysMum · 01/10/2021 21:31

Victim blaming cunt.

Also I’m quite sure that people frequently resist arrest already for all sorts of crimes and what happens? They get arrested anyway.

Getyourownback · 01/10/2021 21:31

My god, me too.

SmellsLikeTeenageBoys · 01/10/2021 21:33

I didn’t hear this comment but watching the news this morning and the police advice on what we should do if we are stopped by a lone officer made me want to throw things at the TV for exactly this reason.

There are so many things wrong with the way they issued this advice I barely know where to start, but to place responsibility on the victim in a scenario of this kind is fucking ridiculous.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 01/10/2021 21:33

Thats just horrendous

Nasty piece of work

Nomorefuckstogive · 01/10/2021 21:34

Agree wholeheartedly. Resign or be pushed out. Hideous, misogynistic crap. I’ve been feeling angry about this since I read it earlier. So glad so many agree. Thank you for staring a thread about it.

Nomorefuckstogive · 01/10/2021 21:35

*starting

Quickchangeartiste · 01/10/2021 21:36

Totally agree, these are appalling comments and likewise I don’t understand why Cressida Dick is still in a job.
This is the crap women face every single day.it is indeed exhausting.
