99 percent of people have two. Some point are born with the kidneys fused to make a single horseshoe kidney. Others have had transplants and have one or even two extra....

I have a friend who donated a kidney 3 years ago. She now has one left.

Upper thigh. OK not really. The originals are left in situ, the new one gets plumbed in too. Usually slightly lower, sort of tummy area.

I've got two. A mate of mine had a transplant and has three, because they don't bother taking out the dud. The new one goes lower down sort of towards your groin according to Google.
