The thread will be deleted as soon as HQ get up. Probably for the best as genuine people are sharing their own medical stories Flowers There's been an "interesting" long running poster who appeared to have already donated rather more than would usually be considered the right natural quantity.
DressedUpAtAnIvy · 01/10/2021 08:07

I have two real ones and a few fictional ones for altruistic donations.

felulageller · 01/10/2021 08:11

I met someone once who thought a kidney was the size of a kidney bean!!

Anxietyandwine · 01/10/2021 08:11

Technically I think I have 3 Shock

I have a duplex kidney on one side (which I only learned a few years ago at age 27!)

It means I have a double kidney on one side and a normal kidney on the other side

Chachachawoo · 01/10/2021 08:13

@stinkycheeseman

I knew a guy with three testicles once. He was very hairy
This is the reason to be on mn... You win the thread.... so far.

When My Ds was born the nurse did not note down the number of blood vessels in the umbilical cord, this was 30 years ago btw, so I assume that midwives routinely check the cord as the two vessels mean two kidneys

No it doesn’t.

Due to the way the umbilical cord and kidneys develop, there is a slightly increased risk of a kidney malformation if there is an umbilical one.

Most 20 week scans will pick up any issues including how many umbilical vessels as cord blood flow is one of the major things to check. So probably no need to count vessels any more.

No you have 2 kidneys, one has a double drainage system so 2 ureters. Extra ureter, not extra kidney.

flippertyop · 01/10/2021 08:17

2 but I know few people who only have one but that's after a removal - they weren't born like that

Sciurus83 · 01/10/2021 08:19

Everyone saying they have a duplex kidney so you have 3, have you seen a scan with three? I'm not in any way saying you don't, but that's not what a duplex kidney means, it means there are two ureters coming from a single kidney, which is quite common. Three kidneys is very rare, there are a surprising number of people saying they have three. Weirdly when I had a baby duplex kidney got written on my notes and I had to get it corrected, I have long running kidney issues but it isn't that.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/10/2021 08:20

Two I assume. However I'm not sure how well they are after I had a recent UTI that was tracking up to my kidneys.

Sciurus83 · 01/10/2021 08:23

I take it back! Duplex kidney can also mean three kidneys! Thank you Dr. google

Sciurus83 · 01/10/2021 08:27

Actually no, further reading suggests first answer is right, some confusing explanation from GOSH, 3 kidneys is very rare, a duplex is usually a double of a certain part but it's not a full kidney duplication

Mooda · 01/10/2021 08:29

I have 2 as far as I know.

Dd has 1 that works, the other was cystic and failed before she was born, picked up at 20 week scan.

A friend also has 1, discovered during an op as a child. To everyone saying they have 2, I'd you've never checked you may be surprised at what you find!

Picklypickles · 01/10/2021 08:51

Well I did have 2 of them but down to one now after a decade of recurring kidney giant kidney stone and many operations to try to remove it failed and left the kidney not functioning but still giving me lots of infections!

eandz13 · 01/10/2021 08:57

I definitely have 2

My cousin has an extra small, solo, out of order kidney just floating around in there. Causes her loads of problems and infections considering it doesn't actually work!

Covidworries · 01/10/2021 09:21

I know someone with 4 kidneys 2 on both sides. All functioning but still causes lots of problems

Hobnobswantshernameback · 01/10/2021 09:36

My Dd only has one
I've told her she can't have mine if she ever needs it Grin as it will be good soaked
Seems there's plenty floating around though so I'm sure she'll be grand

Hobnobswantshernameback · 01/10/2021 09:36

Gin soaked
Hmm

mogtheexcellent · 01/10/2021 09:36

I have three. No idea which side has the extra one but useful to have a back up.

GreatPotato · 01/10/2021 09:40

I have three. Which is apparently quite common and most people never know. I was a premature baby so had additional investigations, which is the reason I know.

BigMamaBigBaby · 01/10/2021 09:42

Brilliant 😂

LaikO · 01/10/2021 09:42

Oh I wonder how many I have! I've never been scanned so I may well have just 1 or 3.😯

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 01/10/2021 09:45
