I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

I think Boris is awful but I could never vote for Labour as they currently stand. Full of reverse snobbery, hatred and misogyny. Happy to criticise the Tories without actually bringing any new ideas (that work) to the table. Angela Rayner is just full of hatred with a massive chip on her shoulder. Claiming to be the woke party of tolerance whilst actually being the most intolerant and blinkered party I've come across.

WormYourHonour · 26/09/2021 21:26
@WormYourHonour those things aren't mutually exclusive. Are you unable to understand that?
No I can't. Please explain.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2021 21:27

@Snoozer11

Decent people do not call others "scum".
That's not true. I'm fairly decent and I call people scum all the time.Grin
Newnewnew1179 · 26/09/2021 21:28

@Rosehip10

The problem with Labour is that the people at the top of the Labour party think "hey so, the way to connect with people in "northern/red wall/working class" seats is to have someone like Angela Rayner ranting and raving, she "looks/sounds like them"

It's a view of the "working class" (vulgar, "loud", lacking aspiration, teenage mothers etc) - how many times is the Rayner "back story" pushed - that is offensive as some Tory views of working people

I agree with this, it is offensive and patronising as are the attempts to explain the use of the word scum as “normal northern working class street language” yes, it might be a word that’s used but it’s used in the same way that everyone else uses it, i.e it’s offensive, it’s not a special northern working class thing
N4ish · 26/09/2021 21:30

I’m a Labour Party member and could never vote for her as leader. Mainly because she signed that ridiculous ‘trans rights’ pledge card during the last leadership contest but also because she seems completely unprofessional. Calling people ‘scum’ and ‘prats’ makes it seem as if she can’t think of anything more intelligent to say to get her point across.

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2021 21:31

She is a liability and if Kier Starmer doesn't get rid of her then the LP can wave goodbye to the next election and stay in opposition forever.
:(

Quite. In fact, demonstrated that she is not fit to be in any form of government.
Kittii · 26/09/2021 21:34

I've noticed that when people resort to name-calling in arguments they tend to have no intelligent contribution.

Pixxie7 · 26/09/2021 21:38

She was giving a speech not in an argument.

@Kleptaklunky

I think she's absolutely vile, an uncouth loudmouth
Agree.
Tealightsandd · 26/09/2021 21:40

@x2boys

Mumsnet can be so out of touch sometimes at times its laughable Shes ridiculous and she is one of the reasons why Labour cant get into power.
Yes this.

I mean talk about pot kettle wrt her comments.

The losers of course are the general public because with the likes of Raynor plaguing Labour, we have no electable opposition.

We don't need or want name calling, militantism, anger and hate. We don't need or want the stoking of division to hide lack of policy. We need decent policies.

Yes.
Newnewnew1179 · 26/09/2021 21:42

@Pixxie7

She was giving a speech not in an argument.
So presumably she'd prepared it in advance? I’d actually understand it more if it was mid argument but if she has decided that making a speech using that term is a good political move then that’s just really poor judgment.
ladygindiva · 26/09/2021 21:45

I have my reservations about her but in this incident I back her 100%.

NichyNoo · 26/09/2021 21:47

What she says is true but unfortunately that’s not how politics works and she would make Labour as unelectable as Corbyn did. It shouldn’t be like that but it it is - can you imagine the right wing press allowing a bolshy, northern woman who got pregnant at 15 to run the country? Sad but true.

WearsideBridge · 26/09/2021 21:48

Well, we all moan that MP's never tell the truth....

Refreshing to have an MP that tells is as it is.

BJ is all of those things and there's plenty of evidence to show it.

NichyNoo · 26/09/2021 21:50

@Pixxie7

She was giving a speech not in an argument.
She will have had a speechwriter who drafted that speech over the past few weeks and she will have approved it after multiple re-drafts and input from various members of her team. I work in politics. That’s how it works.
thelastgoldeneagle · 26/09/2021 21:51

Her comments are horrible. If you said that to someone at work - which she did - you'd face a disciplinary. I hate all the slinging insults that MPs do.

She has a brain, presumably - why not use it to think up policies that people will vote for so that Labour stand a better chance of getting into power?

Lotusmonster · 26/09/2021 21:51

I can’t help but think if the tables were turned and Boris had called Angela scum there would indeed be cries of misogyny….but she can fire insults at others it seems.

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 21:51

the lady is talking about Conservative voters

She was talking about Johnson and his cabinet. Unless all Tory voters went to Eton …

Hollowgast · 26/09/2021 21:54

@TooBigForMyBoots

She is vile! I mean can you imagine her representing the UK in a global stage!?!? Of course not, she is an uneducated, uncouth, loudmouth.

I'm not sure anyone could have done as much damage as the 2 most recent Etonians we've had as PM.Hmm All this pearl clutching over AR calling them scumbags is a bit rich when we elected a morally bereft, lying cunt with questionable views about everyone who is not like him, as our Prime Minister.

It's misogyny for deflection. "Dont look at the terrible job our elected officials are doing. Never mind the empty shelves, petrol queues and soaring energy prices. Look at this mad, angry woman instead. Isn't she stupid and uncouth."HmmAngryHmm

That's the point. If she'd kept her mouth shut , or, better still, expressed it in a more civised way, she wouldn't BE the story that deflects from the current snafu. That's why people are so angry (labour) or delighted (Tories) as it makes Boris pr job much easier!
antoniawhite · 26/09/2021 21:54

I agree wholeheartedly with the substance of what she said, but wish she had phrased it differently.

I do hope the poster who thinks that most of the public secretly agree with Johnson is wrong. His comments about Muslim women, piccaninnies, watermelon smiles, bum boys, letting the bodies pile high are absolutely abhorrent. I wish there were more outrage about that rather than AR using the word scum.

reprehensibleme · 26/09/2021 21:57

If someone carried on the way Angela Rayner did today in the workplaces I'm used to they'd be facing a disciplinary. She came across as an unhinged yob and doubtless the tories will be cashing in on the aftermath. She's done labour no good whatsoever. Gob on a stick.

Pixxie7 · 26/09/2021 21:57

She is not talking about Tory voters her words were aimed at Boris and his entourage.

OP posts:
hackettblue · 26/09/2021 21:58

What strikes me is that Labour go out of their way to be unelectable and this adds to it - maybe because they know they couldn’t handle it?
