I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

To listen to some of the posters on here it seems like we are living in an alternative reality, a tory utopia, where public services are well funded and functioning, where food banks don’t exist, where the homeless aren’t on every street corner and set of traffic lights, where people aren’t forced to accept zero hours contacts and the minimum wage clearly isn’t a living one, where all kinds of legislation isn’t being eroded to cut costs and there aren’t shortages of food, key workers and petrol. And actually to think that an mp who let her mouth run away with her is a far greater danger to society than the lying corrupt politicians in the government. Wow what a
country !

Thecurliestwurly · 28/09/2021 13:40

Is it just me, or does it seem like the far left of the Labour party are deliberately trying to sabotage the Labour party in its current format, before splitting off and forming their own party? It does seem that way to me.

I agree with some of the more far left leaning of the party's ideas, but I do think they are being absolute tits right now. They are causing lasting damage to the only opposition we have to our current shitty leaders. It's like they are deliberately sabotaging. As someone who grew up in poverty myself, I want wise, respectful working class people representing me, not someone who appears brittle, self righteous and confrontational. I get she may be passionate about her cause, but you cross a line sometimes where you can look a bit narcissistic and unyielding to new ideas, even if you are not like that at all.

I just hope that they go off in their separate directions so out of the two of them a decent, credible opposition is formed that actually matches the ideals and values of the many people in this country, not just the people who happen to have a polarised opinion on something and spend their days on SM. I think there is more chance of ousting the Tories this way as we were seriously lacking a middle ground option last time. I think a more centre left party without infighting would do very well. Mind you, none of these politician actually bother to ask what normal moderate people want any more, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I do agree that they are scum though, but maybe just say it in your head next time Angela....

Marguerite2000 · 28/09/2021 13:48

@Blossomtoes

the way she mocked the man with the England flags and the white van

That was Emily Thornberry.

Ok, my mistake. My point about her stance on trans rights not conflicting with women's rights still stands though.

I think you're probably right, but come on, people, why the focus on this when you have empty shelves in shops and no fuel?

Do Conservative policies improve the quality of life of anyone but the wealthy and privileged? Is it any wonder that people are angry?

Tinpotspectator · 28/09/2021 13:50

Also, unprofessional? What an interesting word that is! Ill defined and ambiguous, expect to the speaker.

If you want to talk "unprofessional ", look at Johnson, and look at Hancock previously, with their record on consultants and love affairs.

And for those who think that British university education is never mediocre, you are ignorant of the sector. Although it's far more mediocre these days than it was.

sst1234 · 28/09/2021 13:59

[quote Clavinova]That was Emily Thornberry

Gets better;

Labour frontbencher Emily Thornberry suggests deputy leader Angela Rayner had been DRINKING when she made 'Tory scum' jibe...

Honestly you could not make this shit up. This is what this woman wants you to believe working class people are like. Loud mouth vile drunks. Way to go if you want to endear northern voters.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/09/2021 14:00

@merrymouse

The right wing press are playing the feminists here like a fiddle

No, feminists here already think Rayner doesn’t represent their concerns because she doesn’t think women need specific rights and services because of their sex. The ‘scum’ remark is just politically stupid.

Your suggestion that women on MN are incapable of independent thought seems in line with current Labour Party thinking, and that too is likely to lose them votes.

Feminists on this thread seem to have checked their feminism in at the start of it between using misogynistic, not seeing them when they are blatantly obvious and of course ignoring the state the country is in, ignoring similar/worse comments about sending a bomb to a female MP or blaming AR for everything because it's all women's fault.🙄
Eviebeans · 28/09/2021 14:00

It still feels like we don't have a viable alternative party to vote for.
Looks like Labour are once again wasting their chances.

Tinpotspectator · 28/09/2021 14:00

God, aren't politicians so often dirty players and backstabbers.

Try living in a Welsh Labour Lead Welsh country.

The NHS is massivley under funded, worst in the UK, 12k less beds under their administration.

OECD figures but welsh children at the bottom of literayc and numeracy figures

Money being spent on inane projects such as buying a failing airport, failing rail service.

An obession with destroying inner cities with the building of poorly designed and often dangerous cycle paths, hitting small busuinesses.

Talk of a tourist Tax on Welsh Rentals, with not thought to the greater impact oon the tourist sector.

£114m of public money spent on report after report on the much needed M4 relief road, to then be axed

Drakeford making it illegal for Tesco to sell paper and books during the lockdown.

Please don't think Labour = Good Tories = Bad Automatically

They are all equally as awful and self serving.

The curliest and Eviebeans - I thought Gina Miller was starting a new party called True & Fair?
Maybe that’s the party that so many former Labour voters are looking for?

This!

I am not a Tory, nor a left wing leaning Labour.

I feel like I sit in the middle, and have no one to pin my vote onto.

Barbadossunset · 28/09/2021 14:07

Fromdownwest why on earth did he make that illegal?

Of course we're not living in a utopia, but neither are the vast majority of people living in the kind of hell hole that seems to be depicted on mumsnet. I think it's a mistake to over state that position. As regards Ms Rayner's language yes, people do expect a certain degree of professionalism from MPs, same as they would from a teacher, doctor or lawyer. If she doesn't want to adhere to the usual standards of behaviour perhaps she shouldn't be a public official.

@abonae

An utterly dreadful person. Imagine if she were in power and meeting world leaders!

What would she say when she didn't get what she wanted from other countries?

Well BJ and his bunch of wasted our time and money negotiating international agreements only to go back on them before the ink is even dry. The damage he has done to the UK on the international stage is will take years to fix. Angela Rayner hasn't done any of that, but a WC woman's angry word is more damaging than a male leader's lies and incompetence.Hmm
fromdownwest · 28/09/2021 14:12

Control, plain and simple.

List of 'banned' items

  • reading books
  • printer ink
  • Childrens clothes!
  • Irons
  • Kettles
  • Underwear
  • Magazines

Yet I could go in and buy 20 cigs, a litre of vodka, 6 burgers and 15kg of rice!

He lost the plot in a big way!

MarshmallowSwede · 28/09/2021 14:23

No bed to be professional. Not when Boris is screwing gossipy Americans while married and that other rat faced one is screwing in the actual government offices. Didn’t Boris give that American he was giving the sausage to money for her company? Yeah.. scumbag.

Boris is a scum bag. She was just telling the truth

elodie77 · 28/09/2021 14:26

It still feels like we don't have a viable alternative party to vote for.

Why? You do. Just stop believing all you read in the The Daily Mail and The Express Grin

Eviebeans · 28/09/2021 14:27

I may have completely taken leave of my senses but I'd like to see something new with fresh ideas (used to be a keen Labour supporter). Something/someone that can provide for everyone with decent policies but that doesn't mean someone else has to get screwed over to do it.

elodie77 · 28/09/2021 14:29

Something/someone that can provide for everyone with decent policies but that doesn't mean someone else has to get screwed over to do it.

Who do you think would be 'screwed over' with Labour policies, such as the ones outlined in the 2019 manifesto?

I know this has a grin so jokey etc

But I don’t read these and Labour are frustrating, I couldn’t vote for them currently and would have Blair, like many others.

Thecurliestwurly · 28/09/2021 14:32

Yes I do think you are right. The press are focusing on this quite a lot and there are far bigger issues out there. I am as angry as AR though, but I'm not trying to win the vote of the nation and I'm also angry that through the last 5 years, we have not had a decent opposition either due to infighting.
Eviebeans · 28/09/2021 14:34

It feels a bit like a manifesto is a bit like writing a Christmas present list. You can write anything in it but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll get it all. Im disappointed with all that is on offer. Conservatives are a shambles.
I'd like to see someone with the passion to make you feel they can make things happen. Who genuinely believes what they are saying.

Rosehip10 · 28/09/2021 14:35

@MarshmallowSwede No no, Boris gave Jennifer the money for an "IT/technology lesson"....
