I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

OP posts:
SueSaid · 28/09/2021 08:29

I bet the Tores piss themselves laughing at this PR disaster from 'the opposition'.

merrymouse · 28/09/2021 08:30

when did a labour mp call the electorate thick ?

It’s implied in AR’s remark (or worse) because a very large chunk of the electorate voted for this government.

The politest way to describe her remarks on Rosie Duffield and other feminists in the Labour Party is ‘unpleasant’.

I think she is definitely given a harder time because she is female - male politicians don’t become avatars for abuse in the way that women - but Raynor thinks ‘woman’ is just an identity you can have on Wednesdays, but not Fridays.

I think she is focused on the internal politics of her faction of a minority party and is either too blinkered or lacks the skills to communicate with people outside that faction.

Undeuxdrei · 28/09/2021 08:31

@Leibam Exactly ! Cut universal credit, be shamed by a footballer into providing food for impoverished families, drive the country into the ground but god forbid someone uses dodgy language to call out the most corrupt PM in history Grin it's a joke.

Leibham · 28/09/2021 08:31

It’s been really interesting on this thread to see how people are willing to shred her to pieces based on how she speaks and where she comes from, and that’s from WC people too.

The vitriolic descriptions of her from people who claim to be offended by abusive speech such as ‘scum’ are the worst ones.

Leibham · 28/09/2021 08:34

@JaniieJones

Of course they do and weaponise it because it takes the focus off of how vile they are. They adore seeing a WC woman who is angry over what they are getting away with being torn to shreds. If that delights you, congrats.

Undeuxdrei · 28/09/2021 08:34

@merrymouse so she didn't then. But it's implied ? But Johnson's comments weren't implied were
they and can hardly be misconstrued.

derxa · 28/09/2021 08:36

She was correct and doesn’t care whether any of you like her. Well she won't gain any votes for Labour then. She has to convince people like me to vote for Labour

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 28/09/2021 08:37

She has handled the Tories a gift on a plate. Who is listening to Labour policies right now? She has turned the discussion into a debate on unprofessional language - not policies, not a vision for the country - the discussion is about name calling.

It's not a great way to win back the red wall either - "hey you lot - you voted for scum"... so what does that make those voters? What does Labour think of them.

I am with other posters who think a strong opposition is vital for democracy and the Labour party are not providing that challenge right now.

SueSaid · 28/09/2021 08:37

'don’t think she has. She clearly sees that as your job.'

@Blossomtoes you seem a bit confused. I am not the deputy leader of 'the opposition' calling people scum in public.

So, for example If I were the deputy leader of the rag tag Labour party I wouldn't be calling people mouthy vicky pollard horrors at their annual conference. However we're on an anonymous chat forum.. can you really not see the difference Grin

reprehensibleme · 28/09/2021 08:38

Leibham, you've stated a few times on this thread that people, wc and otherwise, who vote Tory are thick.

Do you have any theories as to why traditional Labour voters are now voting tory in droves? What is it that is turning them away from Labour? If Labour is the obvious party to be a champion of the wc, why are they languishing so far behind?

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2021 08:39

can you really not see the difference?

I can see you’re a hypocrite.

merrymouse · 28/09/2021 08:40

But Johnson's comments weren't implied were they and can hardly be misconstrued.

No, Johnson has definitely made offensive remarks.

However, AR’s problem is that she needs the votes of the people she has offended.

Leibham · 28/09/2021 08:42

@reprehensibleme

Yes I have but do not lie and say I think Labour is champion or that I am backing Labour bc I am sympathetic to AR and how she’s being unfairly hauled up compared to what Tories get away with.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 28/09/2021 08:43
@merrymouse so she didn't then. But it's implied ? But Johnson's comments weren't implied were

So what was the context of BJ letterbox comment then?

In case you've forgotten it was arguing against banning the burka in the UK after some European countries brought in a ban. He was arguing for the right of Muslim women to freely choose how they dress.

Was his language inappropriate - yes but the context was different to what many people assume.

Undeuxdrei · 28/09/2021 08:45

But @JaniieJones you are clearly a tory party supporter. Every thread you defend their actions. What are your opinions on the success that is Brexit ? In one thread you were praising the amazing deal with the EU secured by government. You were defending BJ shaking hands with people infected with covid. Is there anything you will criticise ? But no you will focus on what is essentially a storm in a teacup whilst Johnson blatantly lies and obfuscates in parliament.

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2021 08:45

Do you have any theories as to why traditional Labour voters are now voting tory in droves? What is it that is turning them away from Labour? If Labour is the obvious party to be a champion of the wc, why are they languishing so far behind?

The latest polls - about two weeks ago - showed the parties neck and neck. And that was before fuel shortages and empty supermarket shelves. Brexit was the reason for the red wall collapsing in 2019. If the Tories don’t spend a lot of money in the north very visibly and very quickly they can kiss those votes goodbye.

Undeuxdrei · 28/09/2021 08:48

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude tank topped bum boys ? Another corker for which he did not apologise. Obviously misunderstood Hmm

reprehensibleme · 28/09/2021 08:49

Blossom, I've just checked and the latest poll actually has Labour 2 points ahead - so maybe Rayner has done labour a favour........ Grin

reprehensibleme · 28/09/2021 08:50

Poll on 21/09/21

Djifunrsn · 28/09/2021 08:50

I am no fan of BJ and didn’t vote for him. However I believe that the comments AR made and stuff in a similar vein are going to keep labour out of office. To appeal to floating voters, you don’t call the opposition scum.

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2021 08:52
@ChazsBrilliantAttitude tank topped bum boys ? Another corker for which he did not apologise. Obviously misunderstood Hmm
And water melon smiles on piccaninnies. Very edifying and not at all racist.

That’s interesting @reprehensibleme. I wonder what a poll taken this week would show?

Undeuxdrei · 28/09/2021 08:53

And to attract w/c voters you don't cut UC, give millions to your cronies, lie in parliament ? Why is that ok ?

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 28/09/2021 08:55

@Undeuxdrei

And to attract w/c voters you don't cut UC, give millions to your cronies, lie in parliament ? Why is that ok ?
Who said it was ok?
Leibham · 28/09/2021 08:55

@Blossomtoes

The Ipsis Mori poll showed this week that Keir is gaining on BJ. They were both 38%

Perhaps the floating voters who are WC have realised that though they voted for him based on him getting Brexit done and taking a hard line approach to immigration - he has now turned around and stabbed them in the back.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 28/09/2021 08:58

@Undeuxdrei
I was simply responding to your point that none of his comments could be misconstrued. That comment is often misconstrued.

I am not a Boris Johnson fan - if you were to look at any of my previous posts on him I don't hold back. I think he is utterly self-interested.

However, he can present an image that is acceptable to the electorate - Boris is a persona (his family and friends don't even use that name they call him by his first name). AR is not going to dent the popularity of someone like him by name calling and she risks it being reflected back as her view on WC Tory voters (which is has been). BJ has more political awareness than her and is much better at riding out these sorts of storms.
