The Lancet calls us “Bodies With Vaginas”

On behalf of all women and girls, I am f*cking livid.

twitter.com/thelancet/status/1441372277786951681?s=21

Be in no doubt, when society removes the words we use to define ourselves they remove the means for us to gather, to push back, to protect ourselves, to fight for our rights, to roar. It’s slow and almost imperceptible and then, BOOM…you have the likes of Ed Davey proclaiming on prime time radio that we can’t exclude men.

I am NOT a Body with a Vagina, I am WOMAN hear me roar.

Bodies?! Not even people or persons (which is dehumanising enough as it is)?

It could equally be about a cow or a fucking dog.

This. ^ It's vile isn't it?
Greeneyedminx · 25/09/2021 10:56

For the love of God, and other beings!!!!
Can we please just be referred to as WOMEN/GIRLS 🤬🤬🤬!!!!
I am so fed up of feeling that as a woman I am being erased from society in general because I don’t have a penis!!
Men/boys are the people who have penis’s and women/girls are the people (NOT bodies), who don’t have a penis.
I am sorry for the trans people in society who feel they are being victimised because of their penis/lack of penis, but... 51% of the population are women or girls, not bodies with vaginas or uterus‘S !!!!
Please STOP this bloody madness now.

MyPatronusIsACat · 25/09/2021 10:56

100% agree @Greeneyedminx !!! ^

rocklamp · 25/09/2021 11:02

I think their use of the word 'bodies' pretty much sums up their attitude.

A dead body which feels no pain, has no sentience and can be treated with disrespect without any consequences. The denial that we even have any life whatsoever. Horrific.

Pineapplepyjamas · 25/09/2021 11:12

@Dozer

Rubbish, Pineapple, abusive messages aside the action to be taken - to use the term ‘women’ - should be straightforward. It’s the organisation that is being ‘kafkaesque’, not complainants.
It’s not rubbish. I’ve seen the complaints and I’ve seen action not being taken, because they are glanced at and dismissed as coming from nutters. Many organisations are run by people who don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Or who are busy and just glance at stuff, without engaging their brains. Is this scandalous? Yes.

Yes, I’m tone policing.

Be angry and protest and be livid in the media etc.

When you complain to an organisation, I think it’s wise to adjust your tone so they’ll listen.

I’m not trying to dismiss your anger - I’m angry too - I’m just trying to share something I’ve seen that felt might be useful.

GC people within organisations cannot reinterpret complaints and explain where a person is coming from because we could be at risk of losing our jobs. When someone says “oh that’s just from a terf” the whole organisation can switch off and someone trying to say “hold on, there’s some merit in this” is seen as akin to defending racism.

Obviously this is a sad state of affairs and perpetuates the issue further.

But it still stands: complaints should be simple and specific. Assume the reader has no idea about the wider context and remember they can only control their organisation’s actions.

Pineapplepyjamas · 25/09/2021 11:13

Also, I didn’t call complaints kafkaesque. That was an example of a complaint.

suckingonchillidogs · 25/09/2021 11:18

A PP mentioned that Piers Morgan has tweeted about this. Someone in his comments section has reimagined Woman by John Lennon replacing it with "Body with Vagina, I can hardly express" etc.

What else are we going to have to replace - "I wish they all could be California bodies with vaginas"? Or maybe "Wild bodies with vaginas do and they don't regret it"?

Fuck sake

2319inprogress · 25/09/2021 11:22

I though FWS nailed it with this response

It was my first thought after "you misogynistic bastards" also they haven't even specified that the body is human 👀

The Lancet calls us “Bodies With Vaginas”
CreepingDeath · 25/09/2021 11:23

It's very clear what the agenda is here and everywhere else this is happening.
Remove the word woman from female people, thereby allowing men who choose to declare themselves as women, and gain access to women's spaces. It is already happening.

We cannot allow this to continue, we need to push back against this institutional capture.

Iamsososoexcited · 25/09/2021 11:25

I have emailed the Lancet. I am woman.

liddlelambsydivey · 25/09/2021 11:26

Disgusting and insane wording. Another slide toward feeling like we're living in a dystopia!

Funny how it might literally kill someone (or at least mean they're a victim of "violence") if they're addressed by the wrong pronouns, yet actual women are expected to be okay being called "bodies with vaginas"!

Somethingsnappy · 25/09/2021 11:31

Why not get it over with and call us walking cunts instead? For fuck's sake.

Shame on the Lancet.

FOJN · 25/09/2021 12:34

Please consider that:
1. The people reading the emails won’t have a clue about the trans v women’s rights issue.

How would they manage to be ignorant of trans vs women's rights when they have chosen to prioritise the feelings of trans people over women's?

2. Any mention of trans in a negative context will cause the email to be pigeonholed as anti trans.

Only if you are a rank mysogynist who refuses to acknowledge that if women's rights are anti trans then trans rights are anti women.

3. Being too angry can also cause it to be dismissed

Make nice little ladies if you feel the need to raise a complaint. Know your place and don't you know how unattractive angry women are.

FFS it's 2021, why should I give a flying fuck for the opinion of anyone who reduces me from human being to a body part.

HeadPain · 25/09/2021 13:40

Makes me feel sick

NiceGerbil · 25/09/2021 14:05

Fyi- the word vagina comes from the Latin for 'sheath'.

Naunet · 25/09/2021 14:21

3. Being too angry can also cause it to be dismissed

REALLY?! Because that is exactly how men behave and they’re not only listened to, but prioritised.

Porfre · 25/09/2021 14:22

Its disgusting.

It's like they're talking about corpses

Naunet · 25/09/2021 14:30

Men/boys are the people who have penis’s and women/girls are the people (NOT bodies), who don’t have a penis

No, no, no! Women aren’t just men but without the penis.

Women = the humans that can create and give birth to new life.
Men = the humans that can’t.

😁

WishingYouAMerryChristmasToo · 25/09/2021 14:32

@HummingBeeBox

4 days ago they happily used the word men in an article about prostate cancer. Misogyny at its finest. Why not 'penis haver' to even things up? Apparently the content of the article isn't consistent and refers to menstruators / women / girls / bodies with vaginas .... what a joke.
This with bells on
Porfre · 25/09/2021 14:32

How many who identify as Tran-woman would like to be described as a body with a dick.
Cos pretty soon, if woman loses its meaning and unless they've had surgery - that's what they are. Regardless of how they identify or what their pronouns are, in general terms they are just a body with a dick.

So no more men or women. No more trans men or transwomen.

Just body with a vagina or a dick.
Doubt they'd be happy with that even.

C8H10N4O2 · 25/09/2021 14:39

Well if we are naming based on bodily emissions and I'm a menstruator I guess that makes the editor of Lancet a wanker.

Naunet · 25/09/2021 14:42

They’re confident enough in their misogyny, that they know men would never be described like that, and sadly, so far, they’ve been proven right. So the penis havers now get to be called men and women, and the old cunty type of women are renamed “bodies with a vagina”. Maybe they’ll change it to something more catchy like “holes” soon - I’m sure incels could give them some great new terms to use for us.
ChateauMargaux · 25/09/2021 14:43

The editors of the Lancet should know that the sex class is not a set of individual body parts but the chromosomes are part of every cell and the female body reacts differently to the male body, in a myriad of ways, differentiating based on one of the points of difference is not the full picture which is why the sex classes have two distinct names, male and female, which encompasses the entirety of the class.
