The Lancet calls us “Bodies With Vaginas”

On behalf of all women and girls, I am f*cking livid.

twitter.com/thelancet/status/1441372277786951681?s=21

Be in no doubt, when society removes the words we use to define ourselves they remove the means for us to gather, to push back, to protect ourselves, to fight for our rights, to roar. It’s slow and almost imperceptible and then, BOOM…you have the likes of Ed Davey proclaiming on prime time radio that we can’t exclude men.

I am NOT a Body with a Vagina, I am WOMAN hear me roar.

I've emailed.
How are women meant to get appropriate medical help when Dr's aren't allowed to address the fact that we have a different anatomy

CityMumma78 · 25/09/2021 08:19

WOMEN-GIRLS-FEMALES-SHE-HER
We need to fight and ensure these words must NEVER be eroded and erased! I’m just disgusted as this is yet another example in a long line of gender erosion… removing female terms on period products, allowing a trans MALE to fight in MMA thus pulverising the female opponent, a trans a CEO for domestic abuse and rape victims, allowing an intact male to sit naked next to a 6 year old girl in a spa because he identifies as a woman, neutral toilets and changing facilities! I could go on. The world has gone completely mad!! The female species has fought for millennia to have equality and I fear for my daughters future and safety with this bizarre gender neutral moment.

TweetyPieBird · 25/09/2021 08:20

@Sonarl

Funny we never hear about the bodies with penises isn't it?
Buzzfeed (some women magazines too!) are notorious for saying “people with a vagina/penis.” I keep seeing their social media posts even though I don’t follow them.
Dozer · 25/09/2021 08:20

Fucking sinister.

LoislovesStewie · 25/09/2021 08:21

I've emailed. Also asked if he wants to be referred to as a person with a penis/prostate.

growinggreyer · 25/09/2021 08:24

Not even a person - a body with a penis.
StrongSunglasses · 25/09/2021 08:25

Yanbu - absolutely awful.

TeeBee · 25/09/2021 08:29

I will also email today. I will also be boycotting submission of any manuscript to the Lancet until it's resolved...and I'm responsible for many that are. This is disgusting.

Palladin · 25/09/2021 08:29

It's disgusting, I'm livid with rage. Have emailed the editor, and tweeted a reply.

happengown · 25/09/2021 08:30

This is becoming utterly bizarre. Body's with vaginas sounds awful.

AliceAbsolum · 25/09/2021 08:30

The fuck.

LoislovesStewie · 25/09/2021 08:30

Sorry, yes I meant body! And said body.

Lemonyfuckit · 25/09/2021 08:31

Have emailed.
This is a grim new low in an age where every day it seems brings a new low.

DrSbaitso · 25/09/2021 08:32

Yes, I saw this.

I think my husband is finally starting to see the problem. He's usually quite clever.

BlueSuffragette · 25/09/2021 08:33

Totally grim. YANBU. I am much more than a body with a vagina. It is a horrific description of a woman.

arield · 25/09/2021 08:34

Can someone draft an email for me? I want to email but I'm not good with words.

I would like to address the email 'dear body with a penis'

catsareme14 · 25/09/2021 08:35

Thank you for supplying the e mail address of The Lancet . The article is a disgrace & so upsetting .

EastWestWhosBest · 25/09/2021 08:36

I see every single reply to the tweet is saying how dreadful it is.

DrSbaitso · 25/09/2021 08:37

I want to email but I'm not good with words.

I'm thinking of something like "Hello, reputable medical journal that published Andrew Wakefield's autism study. So men are men and women are...what, exactly?"

ChinstrapBobblehat · 25/09/2021 08:38

FFS. Spineless fuckers - this is supposed to be an objective, scientific publication and yet they think it’s fine to deny an immutable biological reality.

Have emailed Richard Horton. Please, please could everyone do the same? Fill his bloody inbox so he can hear us all ROAR.

maddening · 25/09/2021 08:38

Apparently the article relates to a period exhibition at the vagina museum, which appears to have been captured by the trans movement and have carefully curated out the word women, which only appears on their website once, right next to lgbqt+.

The Lancet calls us “Bodies With Vaginas”
Bubblesgun · 25/09/2021 08:40

I have emailed too.
To say I am shocked is an understatement.

ChinstrapBobblehat · 25/09/2021 08:41

For ref, this is what I sent:

Dear Mr Horton

I’m extremely angry and saddened to note that the Lancet - along with the many other institutions cowering in the face of the new Kafka-esque, mind-bending, reality-denying ideology being forced upon us by male Trans Radical Activists - has decided to join the Be Kind brigade in eradicating the use of the word ‘woman’.

Woman. Adult human female.

You are allegedly an objective, scientific publication. Nowhere in science does a human body with a vagina exist unless it’s attached to a woman. By denying us the words with which to describe ourselves, this terrifying ideology aims to eradicate the very idea of our existence as women - our biological reality, our lived experience, our legal protections, our hard-earned rights and safeguards.

A ‘body with a vagina’ could be anything - a cow? A pig? You may as well just start referring to us as cunts and be done with it. At least we’ll all know where we stand, and we can stop pretending The Lancet has any credibility when it comes to human biology.

Or alternatively you could man up (or should that be ‘body with a penis’ up?) and regain some kind of sensible editorial control of your publication.

I look forward to hearing from you.

WoozySnoozy · 25/09/2021 08:42

What's the article about? Maybe it's meant to be ironic?
