The Lancet calls us “Bodies With Vaginas”

On behalf of all women and girls, I am f*cking livid.

twitter.com/thelancet/status/1441372277786951681?s=21

Be in no doubt, when society removes the words we use to define ourselves they remove the means for us to gather, to push back, to protect ourselves, to fight for our rights, to roar. It’s slow and almost imperceptible and then, BOOM…you have the likes of Ed Davey proclaiming on prime time radio that we can’t exclude men.

I am NOT a Body with a Vagina, I am WOMAN hear me roar.

Why are women hated so much? This is completely absurd and I think every single one of us needs to write to that editor who, incidentally, is referred to as a man and not a body with scrotal sac and penis.

Despite the fact he is clearly being a humongous scrotal sac!!!
Loubiemoo · 25/09/2021 05:55

Sounds like a more polite version of calling us all cunts. I hate that word.

FurzeMinister · 25/09/2021 05:58

@Spiindoctor

Is there an address to write and complain to?
The Lancet 125 London Wall London, EC2Y 5AS, UK

The Lancet
230 Park Avenue
New York, NY 10169 USA

The editor is Richard Horton >> [email protected]

If you don't get a satisfactory response, you can also contact their Ombudsman (or perhaps they now prefer Ombuds Body With a Penis), Malcolm Molyneux >> [email protected]

BarbaraofSeville · 25/09/2021 05:59

Sigh. You'd think that a medical journal would at least stick with biology over 'feelings'.

I had a meeting with a public body famed for dismissing the needs and safety of women in this respect recently and the person who I was talking to kept tying himself in knots to avoid using the word 'women' when the whole point of the call was to discuss a Health and Safety issue that requires extra consideration for women who might be pregnant.

Spiindoctor · 25/09/2021 06:30

Sent email and ccd it to my MSP and MP.

FOJN · 25/09/2021 06:35

Historically, the anatomy and physiology of bodies with vaginas have been neglected.

The must be satire?

I'm sure it won't be long before someone comes along to tell us we're all bigots and should stop getting worked up about "inclusive" language.

You'r right OP, when the word woman has been completely erased we will cease to exist as a protected class and will have no means to campaign for equal rights. I wonder at what point will women wake up and realise how serious this is.

The erasure of the word woman has nothing to do with being inclusive of females who do not identify as women and everything to do with uncoupling words used to describe female experiences from the word woman so that, "what is a woman?" is perceived as a legitimate rather than fucking ridiculous question. Like so much else, it's done to serve the needs of males.

LoislovesStewie · 25/09/2021 06:53

So I have become a vagina. Nothing else but that, it's the worst sort of misogynistic rubbish. It sounds like something used to serve a farmyard animal. I'm in the mood to complain this morning and shall.

@Queenoftheflumps02

This is the email address of The Lancet editor, [email protected]. Maybe we should all contact him to express our outrage?
Good idea
Feelinglow27 · 25/09/2021 06:59

Emailed both editor and ombudsman. On the 10th Sept they refer to men when talking about prostate health. So it seems only the word 'women' has disappeared from their vocabulary.

If anyone has time to knock up an email template for others to use that would be good. Mine wasn't the best as heading out the door.

Getyourownback · 25/09/2021 07:14

What did women do to deserve such dehumanisation? Why are we so hated? I actually can’t bear this.

nolongersurprised · 25/09/2021 07:38

I have emailed. I am furious.

“Bodies with vaginas” . How fucking dehumanising. My cat is a “body with a vagina” - her vet would speak about her with more respect.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/09/2021 07:41

This is where beeeee kiiiind/ “no debate/TWAW gets you. We were told “No one is trying to erase the word woman you hateful bigots” but they are, it’s happening right in front of us. If you cannot name what a woman is, if we cannot name our sex then how can we fight the sexism women face

Everyone knows what a woman. It’s not complicated at all. It’s certainly not complicated when it comes to whi to keep at home & deny education too (Afghanistan) or who to deny abortions to (Texas) the Swiss knew who they were denying the vote to until 1971.

It’s absolutely rage inducing but also very scary

Generallystruggling · 25/09/2021 07:42

The BBC did it in an article a fortnight or so ago. Think we were called menstruators.

Theluggage15 · 25/09/2021 07:48

There’s also a tweet referring to black women. Why not black bodies with vaginas? They seem very confused.

nicecheesegromit · 25/09/2021 07:49

Shocking 😡🤬

CasperGutman · 25/09/2021 07:50

This is too weird. Does anyone know the context in which this phrase was used? For example, is this weird phrase used to include the anatomy and physiology of the bodies of non-human females?

Similarly, calling women "menstruators" is grim - unless used in a specific context where the writer was specifically NOT referring to girl children, post-menopausal women, women using period-suppressing hormonal contraception etc. etc.

EdgeOfACoin · 25/09/2021 07:50

@Cabinfever10

Who are the 4% who think this is OK please tell us why women should be referred to as "BODIES WITH VAGINAS "
Yes, I would like to know this too. I can only assume some people think it's funny.

I am so done with this nonsense. But you should see the crap on some websites, particularly American ones ('people with a vagina', 'people who get pregnant').

Women. Women have vaginas. Women get pregnant. Women who have taken testosterone are still women.

I'm currently 9 months pregnant and expecting a daughter. I am not introducing her to the world as an 'infant body with a vagina'. How degrading.

When are men ever referred to as 'bodies with scrotums'?

EdgeOfACoin · 25/09/2021 07:51

@Theluggage15

I can't remember where, but there was once a reference to 'black birthing bodies'. Don't think it was the Lancet.
nestoftables · 25/09/2021 08:04

It's hurtful to be only identified by a body part associated with sex...as if that's how men see us. Or as if that's the the thing that makes us 'non-men'. (Forget chromosomes etc.)

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 25/09/2021 08:07

Ive emailed. Im appalled. I referred to the prostate article. I said this was no better than entitled angry men referring to women as holes. I said it was dehumanising and excluded women. Etc

nolongersurprised · 25/09/2021 08:11

I pointed out in my email that men were still men in their articles - not “bodies with prostates”. Fuck them.

EastWestWhosBest · 25/09/2021 08:12

And I keep being told it’s terfs that are obsessed with genitals.

The editor of The Lancet is a penis haver. Whadda surprise. Not.
HungryHippo11 · 25/09/2021 08:13

Perhaps they should go for "humans with a Y chromosome"
