Are fucking selfish, and will be the first to moan when they're takeaway can't be delivered, they can't get a taxi, or places are short staffed as people CAN'T GET TO WORK

god I'm pissed off

I was hoping that all the idiots who panic brought at the beginning of lockdown would have learnt that that’s exactly what creates the shortages!

MarchXX · 24/09/2021 19:07

@Shitfuckcommaetc

After not being able to fill up on the way back from work today I'm having to walk 3 miles to work to start at 6am to start my 12hr shift. Cant afford a taxi and buses don't run that early

So yea, anyone with a full tank sitting on the driveway who fancies giving me a lift?!

Selfish fuckers.

Got my car back from being fixed today and first thing I did was pop off to local garage. There was a blooming queue! Returned after shopping and it had died down, phew!

I live about 3 miles from work and walk there and back at least three times a week as part of my 'fitness' Hmm routine. Its a great workout, but to be fair, OP, I don't do a 12 hour shift in between. It takes me 3/4 an hour door to door so it is doable if you are desperate. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Coogee · 24/09/2021 19:07

Are they allowing people to fill up jerrycans? Surely not. Now that is super selfish.

Why? It isn’t only cars that run on petrol.

Stuffin · 24/09/2021 19:08

Wow lots of people on here saying other people are selfish as they clearly don't have better reasons than they have.

Umm how do you know they haven't an urgent carers/medical appointment/job etc to get to?

I love how it's always 'others' at fault.

IWantT0BreakFree · 24/09/2021 19:09

I don’t think people who panic buy are necessarily stupid or selfish. I think they are just normal people who need to go to go work to pay the bills, need to get to hospital and doctors appointments, have relatives that they care for, need to be able to get to the supermarket to feed their families etc. They see that there’s a chance of a fuel shortage - whether or not that’s down to panic buying - and they simply can’t afford to risk not having fuel in their own tank. They can’t afford to be part of the greater good in the blind hope that others do the same, because what if others don’t do the same?

Monkeytennis97 · 24/09/2021 19:09

I had 1/4 of a tank left. I'm a teacher. Got to look after those kids next week. Usually fill up on Friday anyway.

RoseMartha · 24/09/2021 19:10

It is very annoying and frustrating and just selfish.

I need the car for taking frail elderly and ill parents to appointments weekly and asd teen will not use public transport due to anxieties. I also cant walk to work as it is 7 miles and not on bus route. I only have half a tank left (of a small car). For some reason the bottom half doesn't last as long.

The school sent an email at lunchtime asking parents to leave more time for their journey as all major routes were in gridlock to the petrol stations, and the roadworks on all these main routes didnt help. I diverted on the side roads to avoid most the traffic.

Also people were driving like nutters. A car was waiting to turn right and another one came up pushed in front of it and blocked the road to turn right first.
I got stuck behind car 2 as i was going straight ahead! 🙄

gluteustothemaximus · 24/09/2021 19:12

A 3 mile taxi won't cost more than a fiver. If you can afford petrol you can afford a taxi.

£15 a mile here. The meter starts before you even get in. Where are you, that a 3 mile journey in a taxi costs a fiver????

toocold54 · 24/09/2021 19:13

I work 35miles away so 70mile round trip every day. My closest shop is 10miles away. I usually fill up on a Friday but 2 petrol stations had no petrol left and the other had a 2 hour long queue and I didn’t have time to wait.

I wonder if there a was a referendum now if people would vote to re-join the EU.

Autumngoldleaf · 24/09/2021 19:14

Look we don't know what people's situation is.

Yes so many are selfish and really won't need petrol today but... Some people will have sick people at home who may need to get to hospital.. Elderly relatives relying on them for food and supplies... I'm sorry but I Can't blame them for panic buying.

StrongLegs · 24/09/2021 19:15

I didn't buy any petrol, but I can't drive. Given how rubbish this year's been though, I feel like I could give myself a brownie point anyway. Halo

Djifunrsn · 24/09/2021 19:16

People need petrol. The media put out “news” that it was going to be in short supply. Logically the only thing to do is to fill up. Unless you are in the luxurious position of petrol not being a necessity - which most of us are not. I’ll be using my full tank to drive to a hospital tomorrow. Hope you approve OP.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2021 19:16

Even if there was another referendum and it was remain, I doubt they would let us back in anyway after all these years !

TortillaBonita · 24/09/2021 19:17

There really are some brain dead people around. There wasn't a petrol shortage....but there will be now Hmm because of some seriously thick people.

ConsulTremas · 24/09/2021 19:18

If you rely on petrol (which, thankfully, I don’t) and hear there is a shortage of petrol at the pumps, you’ll probably go to buy petrol. That doesn’t make you selfish, it makes you sensible doesn’t it?

Djifunrsn · 24/09/2021 19:18

You do know that people fill jerry cans for tools?

MurielSpriggs · 24/09/2021 19:19

What nonsense is this! The taxi you're taking will burn just as much petrol as the car you're leaving at home. Old ladies will still die in the back of stranded ambulances due to your journey.
the80sweregreat · 24/09/2021 19:20

@Djifunrsn

Yes. Many tree surgeons and gardeners use petrol tools etc.
colouringindoors · 24/09/2021 19:20

100% I am f*cking furious. Queues at every garage within miles, my town has now run out. We have to drive ds to school and genuinely do not know if that's going to even be possible!

I am so sick of the selfishness of some - or actually, lots - of people..Do they not want their doctors, nurses, vets etc to be able to get to work?!!!!

BananaPB · 24/09/2021 19:21

@vera99

Off twitter just now ....
My lawnmower is petrol powered. He could be a tradesman with other petrol powered tools like a chainsaw.
EmeraldShamrock · 24/09/2021 19:22

You probably would have done the same if the queues weren't huge.
Human nature is selfish.
I can understand the reason people panic buy, every person for themself when it comes to a personal need.

olidora63 · 24/09/2021 19:22

@sst1234

So basically everyone who is filling up has a good reason and no one is panic buying. That’s what this thread says. Which is probably true. Why should anyone risk running out of fuel, the govt are to blame for being Brexit cheerleaders without a plan.
So true …another divide and conquer situation!

Perhaps it was people who need to get to work filling up.

If they'd only planned ahead and panic-bought errr made prudent provision Grin
